13:03 Man the Wii era was so surreal. I’ve loved games all my life, and suddenly my entire family loved them, too. I would go to bed and hear My dad play Wii bowling with his pals after Monday Night Football. My DAD Played games with the bois… like I did with my friends. Absolute insanity.

Well that's because Wii Sports had sports that you can play in real life, but in a way that you didn't have to pay for bowling shoes, bowling lanes, and the amount of games to play altogether, including the food and drinks would be expensive. So doing it on Wii Sports, which also, with Wii Sports Resort, includes Golf, Baseball, Tennis, and many other sports; it makes it easy to do the same motions as what you would do in real life. People like to play video games akin to tactical sports and recreational activities in real life. not something like Street Fighter, Sonic The Hedgehog, Horror and Platformers that requires you to complete missions and know how to use the controls throughout the rest of th egame.

Ive been having my mom play breath of the wild recently, she has only really played the various new super mario bros games with me as i was growing up, and i just felt as though botw was the best introduction to 3d modern games as it really shows quite well what gaming is all about. now, i did need to take the wheel during boss fights (i still waited until she at least gets to phase 2 before offering help) and i also gave guidence on where to go, and we managed to beat the game. it really taught me a lot about game design and psychology. she struggled to differentiate between what items are interactable in some way and what is part of the environment, and this interested me because i have no idea how exactly I know how to tell it apart, it just comes naturally to me, but what about it comes naturally to me and not to her? anyways... now she keeps asking me if she can play more, i started not a hobby, but an addiction

I feel like Animal Crossing may be good for a slightly older kid who has some basic reading down. It's basic chores and crafting, a locked camera view, cute animal villagers that you can give gifts to, and their own private space they can decorate and control. They can learn to use multiple buttons for sprinting and catching stuff while running, but this isn't required to continue the game. Even catching and collecting items is an optional challenge they can learn and build on if they want to.

Personally, the first game I would ever give to them is Kirby Air Ride and Pokemon Channel. Those two games are very easy to understand how they work, as well as giving them video games like Roller Coaster Tycoon 1, 2, and 3, as well as the PS1 Namco Museum Series Vols. 1-5 and Namco Museum for the Gamecube/PS2. Fun Fact: In Super Smash Bros. Melee there's a special mode where you can only use the Analogue Stick and the A button, That is it. All the other buttons are completely disabled. This is why I like toys the best, especially those that give you fun physics to do with the cars, the toys, the bricks, etc. It gives the child an idea of what to try out and see what works and what doesn't. The idea for video games is that it's trial and error, much like what Reader Rabbit and Jump Start did back in the 1990s. Heck, Roller Coaster Tycoon and SimTower taught me a lot of how to maintain a park and keep people happy, or you risk failing the mission and having to start over from scratch.

One thing we need to remember is that as a kid I played games because my dad did. I wanted to play his ps1 games and so I did. And as a kid you have a ton more free time to “waste” learning video game logic.

I'm gonna say this: Find out what your parents/grandparents like if they're not gamers. What ever it is, find a game for it. Leave them with it for 2 days, and they will probably get it. I found this out with my Grandma before she passed. I told her about Hogwarts Legacy coming out, as she LOVED Harry Potter and Wizarding World. A week after it came out, she steal my PS4, and started it. She kept calling me in for help since she didn't understand the controls, and finally after another week I told her to just keep at it herself because I couldn't keep helping every 15 min. She then beat the game within about 3 months. (Edit) It also made me happy whenever she'd see me and start gushing about what she found, and controls or interactions she didn't realize she could do. I was actually talking to her about her finally starting the BotW, but that's when she got sick.

Funny thing about Zelda. I was playing Skyward Sword and would get lost like crazy because I would forget item functions when a new item was introduced. I’d run in circles for few minutes after eventually looking at a guide. I ended up not finishing it due to having to backtrack so much for the Hero Song. I do want to go back eventually but so many other games on my list to play right now.

Idk, i was throwing grendades at my feet in halo and laughing hysterically at the funny boom noise when i was like....3, first game i remember playing on my own was pokemon pearl when i was like 6, only thing i had trouble with was the fishing funny enough. Early Pokémon games are like, perfect for beginning the gaming journey. Simple concept. Catch and battle cool monsters. Dont need to press multiple buttons at the same time. The only thing that requires any amount of reaction time is fishing. And it slowly introduces different gaming concepts like hoarding every item you find and never using them. But for real the 2d pokemon games are great introductions

If you are a grown adult who wants to get into gaming. I say that there is nothing better than jumping straight into the deep end by picking up the Darksouls remaster and play along with a walkthrough or have a friend who is Darksouls vet guide you through the game and be able to be summoned as needed. Sure it may be hard and tricky but if you can stick through it and beat it you can do anything. Another great pick would be ultrakill I have seen that game take gaming noobs to masters fast. Because doing the tech is so much fun and feels so good you can't help by want to grind out being good and flashy.

So the only problem I have with MatPat's list is that he says it's for both young kids and adults, and then lists a bunch of kid's games. Like, I dunno if my dad would really wanna play Paw Patrol. I'm glad he broke down what kind of games to try, but I wish he would have given another example instead of immediately abandoning the idea of this being for anyone who wants to get into gaming.

Bro, Patterz, the amount of "Same brain" moments is absurd. You need to tone down your psychic link to Mather Pathew, lol. twice just in the first 9 minutes is kind of absurd. As someone who used to use Khan Academy quite frequently during middleschool and early highschool, the fact Khan Academy's Kids App was matt patt's go-to makes a LOT of sense. YEAH, no, DEFINITELY not the Oracle Games, and CERTAINLY not the DS Zelda Games. Oracle of Seasons and Ages have certain points that are confusing as hell with minimal information given to players, and the DS Titles have you using the touch screen for so much and you need pinpoint precision at times.

ok straight away from the start why we act as if nowadays kids and adults are braindead and cant figure out something a 5 year old self of us did a good 20-30~ years ago like yes when you first booted up super mario maybe didnt know that holding down the B makes you run so you spent some minutes frustrated as to why you cant jump over the hole but eventually by trial and error you tried many things til you realized ohhh so this is how it works duh... and once you realize how it works you now can play, if an adult human being who has a real life job cant figure out something as simple as how to play super mario then that says something really bad about that persons skills in life, if a simple task of some button presses is "too hard" for them, also nowadays games all have tutorials babysitting you through all the buttons and everything, there is no excuses for not knowing how to play, it has more to do with their will, if those adults sit down thinking: eww games are trash and bad of course they not willing to invest time to even give a game a chance, but those who give it a chance realize that damn this is actually kinda fun 🤷‍♂ but i think nowadays more and more adults are into playing games casually at least and these adults gonna be playing even when they very old
