Algorythms are crazy. I literally just found out this morning that I'm pregnant and this video was suggested. I mean, of course I've been looking at baby knits for a while, but I don't recall having videos suggested containing baby knits. Anyhoo, far too early to get too excited, I actually had a miscarriage last spring, but I just can't wait to get started making little baby clothes! I love the idea of using your scraps for the Sunday sweater, I like the multicolor stripes better than the single contrast colour, especially in muted tones! Also, I teared up a bit when you spoke about your grandma gifting you that yarn and making an heirloom piece. I hope the yarn works as beautifully as it looks like it should!

Sweet mama-to-be, so happy for you, congratulations! 💕 Love to see you so bubbling and shining. I listen to you about growing fast. Please, don't make the same mistake I did a long, long time ago. You really start with the smallest size. You definitely need it. Yes, babies grow fast, but not that fast. 🥰 Enjoy this special time. 💕❣️🙏

I loved knitting for my baby when I was pregnant! Some things he didn’t end up wearing because they didn’t fit or the season wasn’t quite right (it’s so hard to know the exact size they’ll be in by the time it’s cool enough for a certain item!) but the whole process was so nice and helped me feel more connected to him before he was born. Now I just knit a bigger size than I think he’ll need because I can always roll arms or legs up anyway. Plus it’s pretty awesome to finish things quickly since baby knits are small aka fast! So satisfying

I’m so excited for all of your knits! The skein of cream/off white looks like a pound of love acrylic. A way to test that is to snip a bit off and burn it. If it’s hard to light and smells like hair, it’s wool or wool blend. Smells like plastic and forms a ball, acrylic. I’ve done the lighter test on many skeins of thrift store yarn! Best wishes and hugs from wa!

the main reason i didn’t knit things for my baby was basically the patterns i saw all seemed kind of impractical! i definitely need things that are really easy to remove if it’s not just for a cute picture one time. need to be able to change diapers! and especially if there’s a poopsplosion i don’t want baby stuck in the clothes or to drag poop all over him while getting the clothes off. i’ve had to cut pajamas off him before because of a blowout 😬

I love the classic designs from Little French Knits and also the the Mio Romper (free) and I’ve knit the Verde Cardigan (free, too) several times as well. What I really love though and know you will as well are the darling patterns from La Droguerie in Paris. Their Knitting for Babies book ( in English) is fantastic and I just ordered the PDF edition of their latest baby book . And I love the Teddy Pants. Much cuter without the face embroidery. Wishing you a smooth and easy pregnancy and healthy baby. Knitting for babies is so soothing and satisfying!

The good news is the Italian bind-off takes less yarn than they say. The first time I did it, they say to take 3x the length of the edge your binding off but I think 1.5x - 2x the amount is actually more than enough.

If you want to knit for your baby, probably this is now the best time to do it… I was so tired after the birth of our son (even though we were lucky enough that he slept through the night from 11 weeks), I didn’t touch my needles before he was 1y old 😅 And yes, they grow SO FAST!!!

  • @seriouslyinsanediva

Babies do grow super fast but having one outfit for up to 3 months then one for up to 8 months and one for up to 12 months is a good way to go. Those snuggle pants really are adorable! Also knitted items have more stretch and are more accomodating for size

Congratulation! I want to share my experience in knitting baby wardrobe. My cutie is 1 yo now. When I was pregnant I knit pants, overalls, cardigan and socks for her. And crocheted cardigan with small pants - I had idea to make bigger cardigan and small pants together, than I planned to cut off that pants and use it as cardigan. I took her from a hospital in this overall and she wears this cardi nowadays and I find this idea brilliant =D. The main practical side of knitting baby clothes is to make it longer - with longer body and longer sleeves and pants because baby becomes longer. Wish you a lot of fun with knitting for your precious!

So cute the Teddy pants…. You could do a cute contrast color on the arm holes, either way it’s adorable. I read recently that newborns should not have wool on their skin, have you heard that? I think you were be benefited by adding some more pratical items to the repertoire like blankets, washcloths, burping cloths..etc.

Congrats again. I'm so excited to see what you get around to making. I'm recently made purl sohos garter stitch ear flap hat and it's been fantastic for keeping my little ones ears warm. You have such great taste with the tones of yarn you've chosen! And I agree, knit pants and baby pants in general are THE cutest. You're going to have so many fantastic keep sakes from your little ones. If you're into photo shoots or christenings, I also suggest looking into an heirloom shawl or christening set. That would also be something nice to pass down too.

Congratulations! As everyone says, you'll be very busy once baby arrives so knitting now is a good plan but everyone is different. I picked up the needles as soon as I could and began to knit regularly again once my daughter was 2 months. To help make the knits last longer, I recommend deeper yokes/large armholes to accommodate growth in that area. Also, if you knit top down, you can always remove the ribbing and knit more length and new ribbing to the sleeves and body as baby grows. Definitely quicker than knitting a whole new sweater. I knit my daughter a sweater when she was 6 months and she still fits it today (she's 18 months now)! There was definitely a time when she was chubby and it was snug around the belly, but as she became more mobile, there was some ease in the sweater again after losing the "baby fat". Even if you knit something your baby only wears once or twice, it's still worth it! Knitting for babies is SO much fun. Best of luck!

I liked beanies more than bonnets (no strings). Handknit wool pants have the added advantage they are better than other clothing and fibres for containing that inevitable unexpected messy one young babies are known for. Babies don't wear out clothes as much as outgrow them and it is very convenient as well as joyful to have a lot of changes of clothes to choose from. Especially considering how frequently they get their nappy/diaper changed. Knit with reckless abandon and enjoy every moment of it.

omg those pants are adorable!! I LOVED everything hand made I've knitted for my son! Also, I have found that garments that I've knitted for my son stretch enough that you can get a surprising amount of wear out of it :) if I could give one pro tip from a mom in the thick of it: when making garments for your LO, think about diaper changes! My son went through upwards of 15 to 20 diapers a day, and being able to get his clothes on and off quickly was a lifesaver! Perhaps some good separates patterns, or you could flex your pattern skills to turn a solid crotch into a button crotch (so you can open it and change his diaper without taking off your adorable outfit!) best of luck and so excited for you!

I'm for sure no "yarn" expert, but it kind of looks like it could be the Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool which is a 4 ply, 100% wool that "used" to come in 425 yd(?) skeins. It is very important to have well shaped pants - because if they are flat, baby`s back will be opened and flat pants does not fit well with diaper, so, I recomr=end you to put attention to this - some short rows to make back higher than front definitely makes difference. I love Hosenmatz pants psttern on Ravelry. It is free and awesome shaped. I made such pants and was very happy to have them on baby - very practical and beautiful.

Wow you have a lot waiting in the queue! I think it is ok if you knit them after the baby is 1 year old, since you will be very busy once he is out. I wonder how Teddy pants can be practical cuz they look difficult to take off and wear diapers under them 🤔 I was told Seaside sweater is good with buttons from a baby mum I knit for 🙂 Careful with alpaka and mohair, I heard sensitive baby skin doesn't like them much. Just thought I would say they suggest one-two more layers then you would wear, for baby, as they take time to develop thermal regulation. Because of this I would focus on things to put over clothing (Blankets, sweaters, beenies, outerwear). If you make things that are slightly bigger then baby's size then you can slip it over lighter clothing and they will get use out of it longer.

I'm a retired OB nurse. You should use wools on babies. It causes them allergies.

Thank you :) I want to say this is closer to dk weight, it’s a bit thicker than what’s recommended but it was the only baby yarn I could find at the time and it’s working out! ;)

I really like the face on the "pants", but I am someone who belives that one of the main perks of having children is to put cute animal clothes on them, so I am probably biaised. 😅 It's beautiful either way.

this is not really related to the video but knitting/crocheting is probably the only hobby that i have that is dominated by women and i feel so safe here. most of my hobbies are related to tech and math so this is a welcome break from it. also, you should definitely try the flame test although i am not sure of its safety for pregnant people. natural fiber yarn burns while human made fibers melt.

bestie you gotta STOP making me want to make all these baby knits. i'm literally never going to have kids. i don't know anyone with kids. why am i saving all these baby patterns. (this comment is lovingly sarcastic btw i'm told my tone sometimes comes off very mean so just want to be clear on that
