I love how when two people have a complicated relationship they ''hate each other''. Jennifer and Patrick both had strong personalities. They couldn't stand each other during the filming of their first movie but during dirty dancing (so like 8 years after their first movie) they made ammends. Patrick said on multiple occasions that no one has ever annoyed him the way Jennifer did but he also said he only ever had chemistry with two people: his wife AND jennifer. They were not best friends, but they did appreaciate and care for each other. Life is not a disney movie and there is more emotions than just love and hate out there.

They really didn't hate each other. They were in another movie together, but this was the movie Dirty Dancing that they had to work really close together. I mean body to body, together. She was young and not a professional dancer like he was. Unfortunately, gossip magazines and rumors made it sound like they hated each other. They still respected and cared about each other even years after Dirty Dancing. But it's still sad that Patrick Swayze is gone. He was talented in acting and dancing... and gorgeous! 😁💗

I worked on this set and knew Patrick and his wife and oh the stories I have locked away... I’m still mad at him for dying. He was extraordinarily talented and such a beautiful, charismatic man, who commanded the attention of any room, but he pissed it all away! He smoked cigarettes CONSTANTLY and abused alcohol for many years and it cost him - and all those who loved him - everything! He kinda had 2 personalities really... he was so passionate, especially on set or the stage, but didn’t cope well with stress and was very difficult at times. He was incredibly hard on Jen throughout production of “Dirty Dancing.” She, like many actors, used humor to get through the long, physically grueling days and he couldn’t stand that. He’d say or behave angrily and she’d cry and he’d get mad and walk off to smoke. He’s a beloved actor and dancer but he could be a pain in the ass and sometimes I don’t think he realized the way he affected others. I don’t think she’s ever been able to fully enjoy the success of this movie and how much happiness it bright others because it was such a stressful, difficult time for her. And that makes me sad because she had the potential to be anything she wanted and as this movie wrapped and they began promoting it, she was different. She was convinced she had to have a nose job and like many people who try to fix inside feelings with outside action, it didn’t bring her a “cure.” I feel like they both had so much more to offer the world in terms of profound talent but that was arrested for them both too soon, albeit for very different reasons.

I know how much he smoked, and it amazes me that he could dance that well and be such an athlete with what he was doing to his lungs and body. It seems that many who get pancreatic cancer smoke and drink to excess.. I always picture him as handsome, charismatic but smelling of cigarettes. :) And Jennifer was more beautiful, to me, when she had the nose she was born with. It gave her character, and she looked unique. Anyway, the final result of the movie is that it was a masterpiece, in my book. I am not one to watch a movie more than once, but I have watched Dirty Dancing many many times. It was an incredible job by both stars, and I appreciate them. I so wish Patrick could have beaten his cancer, What a hunk he was! And his dance moves can't be matched.

@@diablo121675 His wife smoked and drank just as heavily. Knowing how badly she treated Patrick, why wasn't it her instead. Patrick loved her and stayed when he should have left and found someone who truly loved him back. His final weeks were pure hell and she didn't stop abusing him. I wonder how long the new husband will tolerate her 'bad moods' and abuse. Karma has to come calling sooner or later.

were you on a dirty dance set? but I always wonder if they had such a difficult relationship (patrick and jennifer) then how did they do it superbly, and especially the love scenes? and I saw on Facebook some pictures behind the scenes, where they are having fun with each other, there is one picture where I guess they are alone somewhere outside in a tight embrace. I would really like if you read this, to at least answer me something, some say hatred, Patrick said in an interview that he has never had such chemistry and that he has never felt that way with anyone but his wife, thank you in advance for your answer

Whatever friction there may have been it lended itself perfectly to their roles. When you’re in a project that turns into a phenomenon like that with someone it can’t help but create a bond. In the two I see only mutual respect and fondness.

I think it’s pretty evident that PS comes from a strict dance background and everyday work life balance whereas Jennifer comes from Broadway royalty and a famous father Joel Grey background. She had the privileged room to take her talent and subliminal learning for granted. If she didn’t make money she had a famous family and name to lean on. PS didn’t have that luxury he had to work hard and perform to survive and I believe he was always proving himself as a serious actor. Most of the time people that are rich just genuinely have no real understanding of the struggle plus she was young as well. They had beef because he challenged her comfort and she wasn’t having that because she had a strong and also privileged personality and background. When I saw her on DWTS and she was going to do dirty dancing Re dance and she broke down, it was very touching to see. In life we never know how long we are going to be here and what our fate will be. I’m sure she is forever grateful for that amazing experience and there is zero doubt that JG is extremely talented. PS hit the nail on the head. It came so easy for her she didn’t appreciate her natural gift or have that discipline because she grew up with that privilege of circumstance and giftedness

This myth of Patrick vs Jennifer is extremely disagreeable, to say the least. You seem to imply that Jennifer didn't work as hard as Patrick. That is contradicted by Patrick himself in his memoir, where he wrote: "Jennifer Grey worked as hard as anyone." and "Jennifer was working her a$$ off, and doing an amazing job considering the fact that she had never been a professional dancer." The issue is that Patrick made a huge mistake while dealing with Jennifer in DD. A common one, but still huge. He looked at her, saw someone who wasn't a professional dancer but had so much potential that he thought she was under some sort of obligation to pursuit that route in order to perform in that capacity as quickly as possible, even forgetting what her actual role in the movie was. It was not up to him to impose on Jennifer what he thought she should be or become, it was up to Jennifer, a fully grown woman, to decide how she should conduct herself and what her character (Baby) needed her to be. And she wasn't portraying a professional dancer. She was portraying a girl who half-assed a few dance steps in a couple of weeks and ended up having the confidence to perform a little better than that (emphasis on the word little). And you talk about discipline? Of course she had discipline. If she didn't, she wouldn't be there everyday in time for shooting the scenes, unlike Patrick, who was always late. The problem wasn't Jennifer. You can all make the excuses you want for him and place the "blame" on Jennifer, but that won't change the fact that the one with a misplaced attitude was Patrick. You don't bully people into what they are not willing or supposed to be. It's not your place. I understand that he was probably doing what was done to him, what was familiar to him, what he experienced. But he was wrong. A final remark: Patrick wasn't teaching Jennifer anything (he wasn't supposed to, really). Jennifer would learn the steps with Kenny Ortega, Patrick would learn the steps with Miranda Garrison, and then they would rehearse together and finally shoot the scenes. And when the time came for them to rehearse + shoot, Patrick, instead of being helpful to his co-star, who was playing an extremely demanding role (way more demanding for her than for him, let's face it), was sort of an a$$ to Jennifer, and made her extremely nervous and insecure. Hence the crying/giggling, etc. Why did he feel the need to take credit for teaching her? I don't know, maybe because she did such a great job IN SPITE OF HIM. Or maybe he was tone-deaf to the point of believing he was being a great teacher instead of the hindrance he actually was.
