To be a sport it has to be physical, and it has to have a defense. That's the new definition of sport, deal with it. Golf is an activity, bowling is an activity, curling, gymnastics, sprinting, all of that Olympic horseshit is an activity. You have 60 year old overweight white dudes being gold legends, that shit doesn't fly. If a fat old man can be one of the best, it's not a sport. 19:48 Patrice has already thought of everything, possibly in his youth. I've listened to hours and hours of his philosophy and its always been either practical or brilliant.

I agree that golf is not a sport. It's a game. I've had this debate with some of the golfers I work with. It's very hard to consider golf a sport when the course is full of old men and 300 lb men fat doing it. They don't even walk the course, they drive, or carry their own clubs. Nope. Not a sport. 300 lb men Sumo Wrestling? Yes, a sport.

I think its time for a office blokes trip to Georgia, one of my life long friends owns a golf course where we can play free as much as you want. I watch you guys all the time but I don't know your names. That being said the dude on the right is freaking hilarious. When he was talking about changing how sports were played into all these crazy ideas I almost spit my drink out

my HS coach used to say a sport had to have an offense and a defense. we always had this debate that swimming, gymnastics, golf, track, etc wasnt a sport.. people would get so mad, "you know how athletic you have to be." its like nobody said those things were easy. but the thing is no matter how well you perform in any of those particular events, there was literally nothing you could legally do to stop your competitor from outperforming you.. the swimmers would say theres some technique that creates waves to slow a swimmer down that was like a defense. some would say "well basketball isnt a sport then because theres nothing you can do to stop kobe." people just refused to accept the you cant attempt to stop your opponent part.. "you can train harder" its like yes guy, you can train harder but you still cant stop your opponent from training even harder than you.. and the kobe thing was stupid, despite how good he was the other team had options, you could put a better defender on him, you can send a double and triple team to try and stop him, you physically have the option to block his attempt to score, whether you succeed or failed at that is beside the point. if you race usain bolt, theres absolutely nothing you can do to attempt to prevent him from running faster than you..

Blokes, y'all should react to Slamball games. They are extreme versions of basketball games with in-ground trampolines around the goal. They wear protective equipment and they regularly jump really high and do crazy things. It's not a league anymore, but full games exist on YT.

Anything that uses a handicap to bring another's skill level up to compete is not a sport. Head to head, straight up...

There'd be a little thought involved but he's most going off the cuff. He used to do it all the time, he did it so often that he'd actually contradict a lot of his own rants with another rant.

I think the definition of “sport” should be an event with defense and regulations on equipment. In Bowling, Golf, Fishing, Skeet Shooting, Snowboarding, etc… one brings their own specialized equipment - bowling balls, clubs, rods, boards. Patrice makes some good points.

i think a sport should require your heart rate to be up by evcen a small amount lol, and not just because of nerves but from actual physical activity. Fishing for example youre sitting their for hours not being remotely mobile, golf is similar, you go up hit the ball, take a cart to your ball, wait 5-10minutes for the other persons turn, take another 5-10 to get to the ball and in 20minutes youve hit the ball once. snowboarding and ice skating and skateboarding i see as sports because they require you to be physically fit and have to workout and exercise and your heart rate is elevated. things like shooting shouldnt be sports, bowling, pool, i dont know.. why are those thigns considered sports and chess and video games arn't? youre about as active in those as you are golf.

@@bananas1318 I dont think fishing should be a sport but have you ever been deep sea fishing? After battling for 30 minutes I was more exhausted than I would be playing basketball. So that logic isnt exactly perfect but I see what your saying.

@@peterortiz1160 They are judges that actually score the fight, not rate it. They don't get to the end of each round and award points for how aesthetically pleasing the movements were.

Patrice nailed this one , it's an activity , not a sport if there is no defense , you can compare best times in swimming ,golf - lowest score et, but your not actually competing against someone if they or you cannot affect your "opponents" score .

It’s more of a skill. Because there are many fat professional golfers compared to professional swimmers. However both are a skill.

We have those courses here too with strict rules but those are the really expensive ones...local courses are just dudes crushing coors light and it's pretty relaxed

I love golf, my family home is right next to the first golf course on my island to ever allow black people to play. So golf is like a family tradition for us. I used to be really good too, but as Daz said it’s the kind of game you have to play often to be good. I haven’t really played since I was 15 so I’m just an okay player now.

oh they are most decidedly not still together. Anthony was fired in 2014 for what SiriusXM called racists tweets. Opie and Jim did a show for a bit and then they removed Opie and he did afternoons on his own before he got fired for taking a pic of their booker in the shitter. After the firings it came out that Jimmy and Anthony HATED Opie and Opie and Ant hadn't gotten along for like a decade. Opie does a podcast sort of and gets beat up online constantly. Anthony has is Compound Network where he does a show and Jimmy is still at SiriusXM doing a show with their old produces the nasal voiced Sam Roberts. Sad ending to 20 amazing years of radio

Patrice was wrong to think that all sports have to have some sort of opposition. Using your skill to challenge yourself and the skill of others is also a sport. Someone could argue that having a defensive element to obstruct your skill isn't a sport.

Golf is a game, just like shuffle board. It's not a sport. You have old people driving carts. It's not an athletic competition.

Gold should have a hole on either end, golfers start at opposite ends and you can keep trying to hit your ball or try to hit your opponents before he does.

pool is more of a sport than golf. curling is more of a sport than golf. esports is more of a sport than golf. lol, i said curling just as patrice was saying it. but i would say chess can be considered a sport because "my skill doesn't prevent you from using your skill" can be applied to basketball too. trying to shake off the defense in basketball is a skillset in it of itself; the defense isn't so much 'preventing you from using your skill' as it is 'making you apply your skills to shake them off." the same can be said of chess.

To me sports are any competitive activity that is played physically against an opponent. Other things are games or activities. Skateboarding, surfing, golf, chess, etc are games and activities. Nothing wrong with them being called a game!

I used to say any game that has 80 year men that could kick my but when I was 19 was not a sport it's a game. It's billiards on a bigger table.

Golf has defense. It is called the course. If there were no defense every course would have the same exact average score.

Surfing and snowboarding shouldn't be sports in the traditional sense, as conditions are different for every person, not fair.

I would say any competition that requires physical ability to compete is a sport. However, not all sports require athletes. An athletic sport is one in which greater athleticism (running faster, jumping higher, etc) theoretically would improve your ability in the sport. So auto racing is a sport because it is a competition that requires physical ability... but the drivers are not athletes because it doesn't matter if you have the athleticism of LeBron James, it doesn't make you a better driver. A sport also can't be purely judge-based. You have to be able to win without judges in some fashion. Otherwise it's a competition. And some competitions require athletes. Cheerleading is a competition and not a sport, but cheerleaders are athletes. Auto racing is a sport, but the drivers are not athletes. Basketball is a sport and the players are athletes.

Patrice is right, those are games & hobbies. But you heard the mocking tone of the other guy when he called Tiger Woods a hobbyist. People associate words like games and hobby with kids and casual so they call them sports so they sound more official and serious

I love golf it’s fun but I’m the same way I look at a sport as a team game that takes Being an athlete. With golf your as good as you can be you don’t have to rely on others. Sport to me means movement/exercise; golf is just to much standing you don’t have to be in good shape you see guys in there 50s beating guys in there 20s. Like I said I love playing golf though
