I guess I can install this on the top of sliding glass door? I'm using this because I painted my old door and the old handles were in bad shape so I ordered a new handle but didn't realized it didn't come with the lock mechanism so this will do the job! And we have 24 hours security so it's pretty safe, I even wouldn't bother but since it's a vacation rental...

Can you also put it at the top of the door?

Thank you so much! Was trying to visualize how this thing was supposed to be installed. I think I'd prefer to place it up high so my kiddo won't get at it. :P 2 questions: 1) I saw a review on Home Depot that wasn't fully completed that said a contractor was easily able to defeat the lock. How secure are these locks? Are they better, worse, or equivalent to the screw/step-on type locks? 2) Seems to me someone could easily defeat the lock by using a drill on the outside of the door, no? Or do we assume people breaking in probably aren't bringing toolsets to the job site? :P

Phillip I would recommend a Charlie bar instead less likely to break glads

Phillip also, I really don’t recommend this pun, I do them because the my are required by code for rentals but would not try to do this on a home

@@rekeytraining Oh! Okay, good to know! I was looking for something secure but also easy to use. Looks like charlie bars might not be as difficult to deal with as I expected (maybe only slightly more effort than the dowel we use right now)

My pin lock broke, the last part got stuck inside the hole on the inside. Any ideas how to remove? Or ideas on additional locks? Same design as shown on video.

I am incredulous, and nearly shocked speechless at the ignorance of not drilling the holes at the opening of the door and frame instead, and drilling at a downward slant, so as to keep the pin in place, furthermore, secured from being accidentally kicked or knocked out, or snagging on a dog's collar, tags, paws or overgrown nails, or keep cats from any mischief with it . . . . Granted , you did stretch out the chain which decreases the likelihood, but are you truly not aware that the door can be shaken back and forth until that pin slides - sorry, gets shaken - out? The reason that can be shaken out is because the head on that thing is heavier than the pin itself, which naturally lets gravity have its way. I'm shaking my head in disbelief. A maintenance man showed me the way in 1981, upon the achievement of my first apartment in Dallas. It set amongst decent folks and established homes in neighborhoods nearby, HOWEVER, my apartment was situated on the back row near the train tracks near a train trestle where Kingsley crosses Skillman. Underneath that Trestle there was a lot of artwork done by various graffiti artists and artistes. . . And huffers, glue sniffers, and drug users, and, according to some of the graffiti, people who either interpreted songs about needle use or were depicting their own life in their art. Anyway Mr. Maintenance Man was worried about the single girl living back there near the trestle, so he drilled a small bore hole, at a downward angle and then placed a 2-inch long brad, with the head end bent L-shaped, into it. When he was done, he happily proclaimed, "Now you're safer than if you had a dog or a man!". Mr. Maintenance Man's way is a lot cheaper, a lot safer, a lot more secure. I have checked out both types and swear by his DIY way. Everything I said above is true according to many years of telling EVERYBODY I know - male and female - about how to protect themselves and secure their sliding doors. They have told me anecdotes and thanks throughout all of these years.

This is part of a property code. I didn’t decide to install this pin because I thought it was the safest this for the customer. I was just doing this as part of the rental property code. Like 10 years ago. This video is just for the people that have to install them so they can see how to not break the glass. It is not a video for the general public to watch and share their opinions about the technique or location or angle or the pin. Or the safety of the pin. Thanks for the extra long story. Hope you do this on everyone’s videos.

And I hated installing these. I broke a glass one time and it was awful. But we are forced to do these. Otherwise would have done something else. Like a security bar.
