Is it better to just focus on one strong army? Because I notice you have 4 different groups, but you never discussed that in the video. I thought it might be good to have 2 armies, but the problem I ran into was I didn't have enough low level fights when I split up the forces, to get either army strong enough, to take on the tougher armies, and I got stuck.

@@happyninja42 it’s deceptive. I only have ONE primary army. The remainder are a bunch of free units I got from story scenarios. As my main army can only have 4 “units”, I have a ton of left over units sitting around. In my main game I have like 9 “armies” sitting around, but I only use one for actual combat.

Was freaking out not understanding how to go from party to army and vice versa. Immediately saw you navigate between the two banners and smacked my forehead.

Lol yea, so simple and obvious yet hidden in plain sight

The Infirmary is represented during fights by a vertical bar next to your general's portrait. So long as that bar isn't filled any casualties will auto-rez after combat. If it is filled though, that's when you want to apply the Total Defense + Cure Wounds cheese until the bar is partially filled.

actual bless you, my guy. I was micro managing the mitigation of the losses with the heal trying to make sure every soldier comes out alive after a fight. This is definitely a stress that I wouldn't have to deal with anymore. Thank you!

I stopped my first playthrough because I had turned on auto-crusade because I hated the system so much. I began to regret that decision so now I started over so I can finish the game with it on. Thanks for these tips, they are really gonna help me.

The system isn’t perfect, but it’s still enjoyable and I like the different units etc

Here is a tip/tactic for when meeting enemy armies with general. 1. You always split of 3 of your cheapest soldiers off your main army. 2. Send these to attack the enemy army. To find out what ability the enemy General has. 3. If it has an ability that can one shot a unit. Then you keep sending small units to drain its mana/energy.

This was the best tip ever. I just threw single convicts at a one-shotter until it ran out of energy. Then I went in with my main army and mopped up.

Yeah, having Master of Maneuver to get that 4th stack of units is a crazy good bonus. A Mage type helps too, so you can spam Cure Wounds to keep that Infirmary bar from being maxed out at the end of a fight.

Heal self is a quick action (at least for priests) meaning in your « defend and heal » video you should have used their heal on themselves before defending. That’s two heals per turn.

Best tip right here; spend tons on archers and hellknights. Get infirmary size up as much as possible. If you want to basically just cheat then hope your commander gets the thundering scream ability or whatever it's called that flat out stuns units and can make the enemy commander skip their turn so they cant even cast magic.

Here's a priority list for Setsu... ahem for your general 1)Number of unique units 2)Movement speed 3)experience gain and extra feats at 20 4) power 5) attack spells of different elements and utility.

I picked this up pretty easily since it is a more simplified version of Heroes of Might and Magic.

You preferably want a general that can kill either help you outright kill enemies or augment your units into one shoting machines. Mage generals are usually best for this as you can drop a fireball at the start of battle and almost eradicate the enemy army. It however becomes harder as you face more difficult armies as Balors will nuke everyone you have to death and will go first so there a more defensive general is better towards the late game. Also pay attention to what units your advisors are suggesting, some suggestions are better than others, like you don't want a bunch of weak slingers in comparison to Marksmen. I find Regil often has the best choices for infantry and defensive units, Seela for units that can heal and support, the advisor for the cheap and weak units, Wenduag for bandits and scoundrels who usually are versatile rather than strong and Greybor suggests expensive but very strong units.

2:25 for me the best was a mage kind of type, scorching ray and heal was so good. Also, get fireball, its awesome.

First playthrough where I didn't know what I was doing I hired the dwarf general. Had a hard time keeping a strong army stack since I couldn't heal or facing high level armies my archers get one shot. After getting a wizard general in Act 3 I knew I screwed up and restarted.

@@LeeroyGaming To me the Warrior generals should be like Tacticians, or Battle Master Fighters in D&D, they should come with a plethora of abilities that directly and noticeably buff the army. Stuff like "adds Power level +1 to the AC of all units in the army" or "for the next round units deal Power level x2 bonus damage on each hit". That way, the larger the army the larger the bonus.

Fun note, if you have a army with a size greater than 3 from the general,once the units are in there you can change the general to one who doesn’t have the feat, and the army remains the same size.

Yeah, I stumbled into making the correct choice for my first general. Picked a mage that had scorching ray as their first spell, a few levels later and cure wounds and haste are also available with a bonus freebie of true strike which I act like it isn't there since my hatred for that spell transcends both time and space because of how useless it is elsewhere.

Sometimes we get lucky like that. I feel like the non mage generals need a major buff to compete. Scorching day is cheap and gets insanely powerful after a few levels.

@@LeeroyGaming True that. My mage general was sniping full units of demons before I took Drezen. It made up for the fact that she doesn't have to extra troops buff. I agree, it'd be interesting if they, say, developed unique abilities for the more traditional generals, like rain of arrows for the ranged ones or a damage buff for soldiers under the command of the soldier commanders. I think I'll mention that on the discord some-time in the future, probably a bit after they're caught up on bug-squashing.

Man, this game is huge. Loving it so far …

For a relatively small studio it’s insane what they have accomplished. I was in the middle of making some new content for it when my gpu just absolutely died. Those new 4XXX series nvidia cards need to come out already so I can get things running again.

Wow, thanks so much, a nice, easy to understand bunch of tips. I'd already started (got my camp moved north a bit) and by luck chose a general with the manoeuvre thing and heal spell; but was wondering why newly recruited soldiers still start out from near Kenarbre rather than my new forward camp (or maybe I'm missing a button?), there's an awful lot of info I'm still learning, like DC and AC and why my heavy armour wearing paladin keeps failing to use magic items??? - I kind'a know armour and magic don't really mix but Seela was already armoured up when she joined. It's been fun learning all these new rules tho (almost makes me wanna find a Pathfinder DND group IRL after seeing the world map). Happy 2022!

Recruited soldiers will always come out of the main city (which will change to a different city in act 3). Its just the way it is. However you will gain access to teleportation which should help with movement some as the map is pretty big.

If I'm going the angel mythic path, is it okay to set the crusade settings to auto? I know in some cases, like for the lich, you have to build certain things in order to finish the mythic quests. I wasn't sure if angel was the same way or not.

Starfield, Darktide, Baldurs Gate 3, Avowed, Diablo 4 (very concerned about monetization), Ashes of Creation, whatever Inexile is working on (fingers crossed for Wasteland 4). RPG renaissance incoming buddy. Rogue Trader is definitely on my list as well, but Owlcat is also definitely at the bottom of my preferred developers. I simply hate the characters that Owlcat makes and give you to play with. Honorable mention to Divinity Original Sin 3...I know it hasn't been announced yet, I'm just hoping the game lands before I'm 40 lol.

Doh! You are so right. Missed that and yes it was annoying to figure out at first

a mage is better off spitting spells at ranged enemies; After ranged enemies are dead, just drop very low melee enemies and start healing; As long as you have mana, you WILL destroy everything; Also Chief Girl Mage is the best, because it gives extra power and she is harder to raise into high lvl; 2nd comes Maneuver Mage cuz he can rely on his army when he is freshly recruited.

I went with a Paladin at the start because I didn't know I could reset it....Its worked out ok i guess....the Paladin gets some type of ability that 5x5 Square that will stun anyone in it for multiple rounds if they fail the save. Undead Esp get screwed by it....I literally will AOE stun a clump and have my three archer stacks pick off the rest. It also doesn't cost energy either... you can literally use it the entire battle.

Also choose Shield Bearers...when offered the option.....Have them run in before everyone else...The Enemies will go directly for them and they take like 0 damage....

Setsuna shy is the best general hands down. He gets +1 army size and the scorch spell at level 1

Yup. Best of both worlds. Larger armies and insane caster power. Best part is you can just keep refreshing generals till you get him.

So I just started , and didn't pay much attention to this part of the game at first until I got locked out of progression. Won my battles , but with heavy casualties. Now I'm at -100 morale constantly, can't recruit, and can't beat any of the remaining forts to progress. I guess I have to restart using your guide.

Wiping out at the beginning or having heavy casualties can be absolutely devastating. Happened to me as well my 1st time. Reason I originally made the guides/ they may not be perfect and patches have fixed some of the original problems but I think you’ll find the guides quite helpful :)

What are other good generals? or should I make my 2nd general a mage as well?

I picked Grinning wolf and he seems to get WAY better abilities than the mages. Cure wounds, master of maneuver x3 by lvl 8 for me, lots of traps, lots of mage abilities....really seems to be much more versatile.

from all my playthrooughs im thinking there is a lot of randomness in what abilities you get. obviously fighters are not gonna get spells, but its hard to predict whether you get useful options on level up.

How do i get access to recruit spellcasters? Wizards seem anazing but i only have 9. Sorcerer arrove as mercenaries but they only have scorching ray which is not the best element against demons. I see in some wikis there should be a builsing like spellcaster lounge or whatevr. Do i need to do something for that?

Is there a point in having a second "main" army (as a last resort defense of the camp for example) or should the other armies only serve as reinforcements for the one main army? (I will check your new advanced video which maybe mentions this.)

I have found no reason yet to have multi armies. As long as you build the citadel building in each mini settlement you will have 6 days to get to any siege, which is plenty of time no matter where your main army is on the map. Also, it takes a lot of xp to level up an army so leveling up multiple armies/generals seems inefficient. On a side note, I have about 8 armies of random units I got for free parked @drezen. Maybe I can make a second army out of them eventually. But why? Granted I haven’t finished the game yet so maybe I’m still missing something.

@@LeeroyGaming I tried leveling up a second general and a second army, but the cost to have a second useful army is just ridiculously prohibitive. And like you said, it doesn't really seem to serve much purpose. Just doomstack the Hellknights and roflstomp the entire map.

@@danwizzle91 those can be mean. They have dmg reduction. Fireball spell works well

I wish I had understood the ability to split "types" into two units to give you more archer attacks for example.

Finished the game, crusader system is fun at first, but becomes boring and bothersome like around mid chapter 3 to manage(build buildings, buy resources, buy warriors, battle, repeat). Try it, but don’t be afraid to put it on auto management if you are not into it (you not gonna lose anything)

Yeah I disabled it, was just a frustrating slog with no depth to it.

Just hit chapter 5 and as soon as I opened up the world map a demon army yeeted towards dezen and immediately laid siege. I have no army, and cannot use abilities. I dumped all my money into resources and purchased as many troops as I could and was happy to see my general was under the assign option, but could not actually assign any general to the army. I am very confused.

Already have two armies with two level 3 generals. Should I get rid of both of them and buy a new one? It seems really expensive to do that. I don't have a lot of gold.

What about generals? After Drezen I got a second general but I basically can't use him since he is so underleveled compared to the first one.

So far, this is the worst aspect of the game for me. Very messy, needs numberous QoL fixes (random armies being delivered with random troops stacking up and very little consolidation options). The combat aspect is ok, but nothing is really explained well overall. On top of that, enemy armies seem totally random as well. Their power levels I've got some decently strong armies that have been relatively effective at clearing demon armies, but it has been a frustrating process. Fireball+Cure Wounds=win

I just rushed the entire crusade mode with the Toybox mod after seeing how frustrating and boring it is... It spared me so much suffering. The modders are incredible

You can smite evil and defend with your units ;D

Problem is you are limited to 3 stacks at first and it’s hard to get more so splitting the same units is counter productive.

What I want to know is, how do you transfer soldiers between armies? Is it only possible at the start of a day when they all have 40 movement?

No, at any time. They just have to be on sale space. Then you can click on the little two way arrow icon on the stack while having one army selected. Then you can cycle which other army to trade with (in the case that there are multiple armies present)

Understanding the buildings is an issue. what to build. I been trying to strengthen base units and they still die. the regular troop suck but its all i get. do the benefits of building stack. How do you get more of a particular unit.

To get more of a unit you need to defeat an enemy fort, which turns it into a crusader outpost, then you can build there and produce Garrisons. These boost your weekly recruitment numbers. So if you build 4 outposts to have an archery garrison you'll get +100% archer recruitment per week. As for building for stat bonuses, the cheapest formation is a barracks and archery range corner to corner with a smithy and arsenal filling in the other corners of the square. That boosts the AC and damage for all footmen and archers.

very very good and helpfull vid thx. but i still have question: can you have more then 20 morale? so for example i have 20 make a order for 30 do i have 50 then but it doesnt show? because if not then i guess i wait with the orders until i need them.

It never shows more than 20 but I’ve also never gone below 20, leading me to think that it does stack above 20. Otherwise it should drop daily , but it doesn’t.

As long as people keep language in check I don't mind people venting. Thats healthy. If its a personal attack on me vulger then the youtube auto system seems to auto-delete/hide comments anyways. Outside of that one negative circumstance I just feel good that people care enough to take the time and comment. Even if the comment is sarcastic or a bit mean hearted. I cant control people, but I always remember that according to KZread any comment is a good comment and for small channels like mine that are trying to grow any comment/view etc is extremely valuable. @@LeeroyGaming I definitely get it. I always try to have a sense of humor that doesn't cross a line, but sometimes it gets taken as mean-spirited anyways. I'm glad you understood I wasn't saying your video was actually bad, because knowing the growing army mechanic is actually very fricken helpful. I didn't spend enough time to actually get that addition. I just tried to rush it because I hate turn based stuff. I always try and leave some positivity where I go. I hate comments on videos, especially on reviews or guides where people are upset with the game so they downrate the video or leave offensive comments. I can't even understand that mentality. I've never disliked a video, I only ever like one based on comment. Kind of like the "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." but you know people and their entitled internet anonymity, lol, people don't know who they are so they think they can be full Demon mythic :P lol Anyways, I will sub to show some extra support. i hit a point with the crusades where i killed all of the enemy armys and now i'm losing morale with no armys to fight lol.

Regarding cure wounds? So far i just use a defendable postion and scorching ray all to death. Most shots are one shots? In the time i one shot an enemy when i use my units to kill even the desth knights need like 5 rounds. I dont think thats a net plus when i attakc instrad woth my knights and heal them?

How did you get so many shield bears? I only have 10 and I can't recruit more. I can only recruit footmen, archers, and Hellknights, Cleric Mercenaries at the start of act 3.

It was a decision at the citadel. Was given an option to pick one of four melee units. Chose shield bearers and now they are my default melee basic recruit unit.

@@LeeroyGaming The main benefit is that it adds your Caster Level and your Mythic Rank together for the purposes of Spell Penetration. I believe it also allows your casting stat to be applied to spell Difficulty Class when it comes to making Saving Throws against your spells. The drawback though is that you're limited to the spells available to your character class' spell list.

I'm not gonna lie, I just edited my save file to get through it kinda my major qualm with the game so far is this mechanic, but I'm still having a lot of fun. Maybe Paizo can do another adventure path in the future that doesn't have an overarching mechanic like the kingdom and crusade system.

This system is an exact duplicate for HOMM system. Coming from a fan of these games, this system is incredibly fun and enjoyable for myself and pretty easy to exploit as well if you know what you are doing.

My question is this, can I equip my armies with weapons? because they are all "Unarmed"

No. But the way dmg is shown on all units is weird. They definitely are not all “unarmed”. Some will state the weapons, some won’t but they are still clearly using weapons. The info page for units is a convoluted mess.

Are these tactics still viable now with the enhanced edition?

Enhanced edition didn’t really change the system just fixed bugs and missing content over time.

Act 3: I think i figured it most of it out on my own and so far kicking a**. The tutorial could be better i found out yesterday that you can build buildings….But what happens when i destroyed all the demon armees? Does my morale will only plummit afterwards as i have no fights anymore? I usually play one round armee and then one adventuring day and vice versa but like this i have clewred almost whole southern map untill level 7 demon armee. But storywise i am nowhere? Worked in act 2 but there are a lot more quests in act 3 and also i did not see the morale tab so no clue how well it was. Nevetheless lets see what i learn :)

Basically it pays to drag your feet, to a degree. See how much morale is replenished by defeating one demon army, how much is lost per day, and then wait until the morale replenished is just enough to bounce back to being maxed for the purpose of recruitment. That way you get extra weeks to recruit more units, which will be needed if you go for the optional demon generals on the map.

@@XoRandomGuyoX maybe my version is broken. I dont loese any of the three morale states. Just killing the mobile stack once in a while is aparantly enough in my playthrough.

@@CaitSith87 Yeah, once the respawning trash mobs show up you're free to drag your feet into eternity so long as you break those forces when they appear.

I turnt it of after act 3. It's absolutely bad boring and plays like a Facebook flash game. There is nothing strategic or exiting. The game is miles better without it. The loot you get for it and the quests are forgettable.

Yeah, I'm on turn 150 against a f'ing rock elemental squad with 800 HP. My army is doing about 40 damage per round...so yeah...it's taking a lot of clicking.

I messed up my crusade, Have like nothing left. But i know how it works now... I have no save to restart... Do i have to totally restart the game?

I’m not sure if you can disable crusades mid way? And you have zero saves? If you have no saves (bad idea, save often and have lots of backup saves in future) then you may have to… or wait weeek and weeks to rebuild.

The system is broken for me, sadly I selected auto mode and I have rested, skiptime and still no path to anything on the map shows. I don't have no selection of crusades at all! I must say this game does have its bugs and advise everyone not to choose auto crusade mode as you can't turn it off'; I'm new to this game so thanks.

I have actually never turned off crusade mode personally as I’ve always found it at the least interesting.

Is it normal enemy armies spawning behind lines already cleared?

Enemies will only spawn behind your lines as part of a story event once or twice

Yeah, and then it falls apart when a lvl7 demon general in a lvl 6 army, blasts your archers with 7k chain lightning and wipes out your stack of next to 300 archers in one go. THAT is when you need a BIG hospital.

It’s funny you said that. I JUST ran into that fight. SW of rezen right? Lighting attack killed 291 archers. That’s a reload right there lol

Woops. This was ment to be a reply. A tip/tactic for when meeting enemy armies with general. 1. You always split of 3 of your cheapest soldiers off your main army. 2. Send these to attack the enemy army. To find out what ability the enemy General has. 3. If it has an ability that can one shot a unit. Then you keep sending small units to drain its mana/energy.

Ah, I see someone already posted it, but there's the tactic of sending tiny suicide squads against that general to deplete their Energy. Cheesy, but keeps those 300 archers alive.

Static armies do not. But a new army spawns and heads for one of your cities/outposts every few days
