    @@SunFoxPL1Im not "picking" on anything. just bc you dont pay as much attention to detail as others (I literally saw it within half a second when the video was recommended to me by YT yesterday), doesnt make it "picky" to tell someone they made an obvious mistake. I told him that he literally has the wrong name on the thumbnail. It seems like you have no idea about the internet, youtube. Fake videos look exactly like that. Small channels, typos in the title and or thumbnail etc. also if Im Jonathan Rogers from GGG and Im so nice to do an interview on a channel with less than 3000 subs, I would hope they do at least their due diligence to get at least my freaking name right. lol this isnt picky, this just looks unprofessional, like I said. Im also not the only one who commented this. It just looks weird as fck. Its a simple fix. If I made this video, I would correct it immediately bc I know that it looks fcking bad.

    As a player since beta, im 100% down with removing damage from skill gems. Not only would it bring down the damage ceiling, but it would help with balance, and also make skill gem choices more build defining vs what ever just give the most damage. I honestly think its not only the best choice, but a win for everyone.

    I still love Diablo 2, I enjoyed D3 at the time, but I can not wrap my head around how D4 is compelling in anyway. I forced myself to finish act one and was so brain dead board walking from town to town, picking up plants and ore, doing pointless quests like emoting to a guard, because its only an arpg on its surface, its really an mmo light with controls and abilities that feel like the were pulled out of a moba. When someone tell me the like D4 its like when they say they like starfield, I believe you, just don't try to tell me its a good game.

    Another good one from Rogers. I find his talks are really genuine and humble and yet he shows the confidence in his vision. U can tell when people put in their heart into it. It's not just working a lot it's believing in what your doing even if someone might see otherwise. Good example No rest for the wicked, they stuck to their guns building the game and now they adjust and compromise. Bad example Diablo4 trying to sell it to everyone makes your game real thin and diluted. Took 4 seasons from them to start making the game but it's foundations are already rotten. I see it when they talk about opportunity vs cost! That's the language of shareholders getting through to developers mindset! No passion or balls in trying to push boundaries.

    RE: support gems and everyone picking the same ones. I often find that everyone uses the same supports for a certain skill mostly because someone does and most people dont even explore the other options. Something like inspiration support could be 2% less damage but it gives crit chance and huge reduced mana cost, so it could be a massive QOL that could remove pressure elsewhere in the build. But then you have to figure out how to implement all that. So the average (>90% of players) are going to just go with the way it was figured out by those few smart players who optimized it. It's a tough challenge to remove this from the game (maybe impossible) but you are rewarded for knowing the game well enough to work it out.

    I think the way to fix gems is to make them do random things just like gear where they have stats so that way its not just one thing with another thing but it could have a combination of things I think that is the best way to handle it. LIke imagine a gmp that has a bonus of going in 90 degree angles or maybe damage to undead or maybe projectile or magic speed. This way gems can have different values and would be more enjoyable to get.

  • @chickenbroski99
    @chickenbroski99Ай бұрын

    Jonathan brings up an interesting point about skill gems. There are always going to be outlier skills that either severely outperform or underperform with certain combinations. Its almost just an unavoidable reality. I wonder if the solution is going in and changing how the support gems work with certain skills in order to scale down the right side outliers and scale up the outliers on the left side of the curve. Obviously its not elegant to just say this x skill gets a reduced effect from y gem because its just too crazy but I dont see a better solution. In a system as you increase variability the outliers on the edge of the curve are going to get further and further out and with highly variable systems like poe the outlier cases will be game breaking at some points. I know its not elegant but I remember having to remove outliers from my statistical analyses in university to get the desired result.

  • @chickenbroski99

    @chickenbroski99

    Ай бұрын

    I was just thinking about how you could implement this easily in a programming context. You can have an 'outlier' flag that you set to 1 if a skill and support gem combination are bonkers. Then you could simply scale down the effect of the support gem on the outlier skill by something like 30-50% and that should basically bring the effect back into the middle of the curve in terms of effectiveness.

  • @gor.

    @gor.

    @@chickenbroski99 i think in most cases it's not about damage but about mechanics of the skill. Like no matter how strong hit will be for strike skill, it does not matter because mechanically it loses to anything that has aoe or range or automation.

  • @shayaharonson9634

    @shayaharonson9634

    That’s not sustainable with this amount of skills and supports and ongoing changes that would be one hell of a Pandora’s box. There are ways to manage this though, even in PoE1 you can see they have certain mechanics in place. “Cannot support orb skills” for example.

  • @ferinzz

    @ferinzz

    Ай бұрын

    The solution is to ensure that the skill doesn't outperform the others to a significant degree. Or that there are enough skills that reach a certain threshold that it's okay not to play the ultra high tier build. There is also the variety of game feel. Even if wardloop could be the strongest build, some might find it too boring since there's little interaction. Whereas others might prefer the low effort gameplay which will allow them to focus on positioning and avoiding boss mechanics.

  • @antonego9581
    @antonego9581Ай бұрын

    his answer at 24:00 nails the biggest fundamental problem of POE1. its fun to have 15 projectiles with return destroying screens of enemies but it makes the level of visual spam so absurd the game becomes unreadable. which is why modern POE1 is a one shot or be one shotted meta for the most part. the only way to keep it somewhat challenging is to force players to build insane levels of defense and have to balance that with enough damage to one shot most enemies and kill rares very quickly. and its still fun, POE1 is great (although Necropolis league sucks). But its so limiting for the developers and so hard to change at this point. its great that the game director for POE2 literally built POE1 in his garage and understands it on such a deep level, as well as not having much reverence for it. We will still have POE1 for years to come and POE2 can be something truly different and hopefully a big step forward for a stale genre. oh and all our microtransactions carry over. its my most anticipated game by far

Everything is really fast and it's easy to get cornered. 3. If you die, all mobs on a map respawn. 4. You have to go back to town to refill flasks. I really, really, don't like where this seems to be going. It's not what I want from PoE 2. I hope it's just an early game problem but I'm worried.
