I don’t why I’m even here but I just love watching this guy eat sardines and canned fish!!!!!!!
This was a true rollercoaster of a video, the highs and lows of your preconceptions against Patagonia fish. Another great review, kept me on the hook.

It sounded like you were prepared to be less than impressed, but it looks like a good product. A little pricey, though. It looks like their stuff is pretty widely available in my area of California. Patagonia is headquartered in my home town.

Totally agree that mackerel has somehow acquired a bad reputation, there are some really fantastic ones out there. I was skeptical of the brand, at first, too (and the low price). And have become a total convert after tasting. Surprisingly good products.
@CannedFishFiles

Yeah, just as the box reads, I had the idea that mackerel were more mercury-tainted than sardines, but I guess that doesn't include Atlantic mackerel. I wouldn't be surprised if Patagonia was running a pretty tight margin. Not sure how the fish really ties into the rest of the business, I guess they are just a label, but I think it's a solid way to build the brand.

You appear to be a master of the chopsticks and to hold them in a way I haven’t seen, without the use of your index finger. You should make a tutorial.

I can use them with my index finger, but recovering from a hand injury years ago, I started doing it this way. I think it looks ugly! But it works for me. You should see my mother, she can cut a cheap steak with chopsticks.
What’s up with his infatuation with King Oscars!!! Hahahahahaa this guy is great
Bro I started eating and loving sardines cause of you lmfao
Hi Matthew, thanks for the review. These macks certainly look delicious. As you have noticed, there is a difference in taste between various types of mackerel. Like sardines, there are several ‘varieties’ or ‘species’ of mackerel. The european is called ‘scomber scombrus’, and the asian is called ‘scomber japonicus’. I do believe the european mackerel tastes better, but is also priced higher.
I'm sure you know what capers are at this point but for anyone who doesn't, they're actually immature flower buds that come from a bush which are then usually pickled. they taste briny and lemony. very good with fish.
I ate it right before watching this. It was so freaking good.
Patagonia has a YT channel too, they make documentaries and junk and one of them is about the fishing industry. Cool beans for sure. what if all companies started opening up secondary businesses like this, all with the express intention of improving the sustainability of our planet? Mite b cool.
@CannedFishFiles
3 жыл бұрын
I had a casual conversation with someone that worked for them and all they could talk about was the sustainability aspects of the business, so it's definitely a core value and not bs. Either that or they have some great kool-aid at the office.

nice
Wait, patagonia also makes clothing apparel?
pretty sure the ironiness in pacific mackeral is due to colder waters and have more of that dark bloody fat in middle as opposed to warmer atlantic, dont quote me though...
Hey man don't think you'll see. Been watching all the eps and love to see mackerel getting some love it's my favourite can fish, the texture keeping that bite / chew is what does it for me. I'm in Scotland we get it pretty cheap as it's local so £1 a can for ok stuff. That's with lots of flavour like katsu, korma or just olive oil. Would you like to try some ?
yeah... you know what I'm doing here. oh god yeah

I'm a herring and sardines girl.I just want quality with either one.Tuna's great too.Seafood in a can can be alright.🤔
Atlantic Mackerel is some of the fattiest fish in existence and therefore holds up really well to the canning process. Other fish tend to lean toward the drier side, but not Atlantic Mackerel.
You're macking me crazy

Mackerel (Atlantic) are very low in mercury. The confusion comes about because "King Mackerel" is one of the worst mercury fishes.
