Morocco formally recognized the United States by signing a treaty of peace and friendship in 1786, a document that remains the longest unbroken relationship in U.S. history. Obviously their sardines must be good.

It was also a formal recognition that US commercial vessels were no longer under the protection of the British Navy, leading to increased piracy upon US ships in the Mediterranean, which ultimately led to the Barbary Wars, creation of a permanent US Navy and the US Marines (source of the "shores of Tripoli" in the Marine Corps Hymn).

That can of sardines is what Moroccans make a legendary fast food - a can of sardines with an onion and a tomato. We cut the onions and tomatoes like a salad. We put the sardine pieces in an elegant way over the onion and tomato salad and pour oil. A can of sardines over the onion and tomato salad is the quickest snack and has a terrible taste + a healthy dish that I recommend trying. 😋😋😋😋

You need to try Sadaf Premium Moroccan Sardines in Harissa. I really enjoy that they are spice forward with only subtle tomato flavor as I generally stray away from sardines in tomato sauce. The spice level is heightened yet satisfying unlike most brand that advertise "spicy" sardines. The sauce is so good I usually end up dipping bread into the can as to not let it go to waste.

The chicken of the sea? In Louisiana Sauce, great snack when you super hungry and come in from cold dreary fall day. Make sure to eat with the open window. Keeps the air fresh and you get the fish sensation when it all coagulates in the mouth with a cold breeze. Be hungry like I said because you’ll salivate better thus rinsing the mouth between bites, which prevents oily buildup in mouth. Then when done and the hot sauce burns a tad really get the flavor by inhaling the cold air this cause you to salivate and clean mouth more. Personally it’s very meditative as far as snacks go.
When he cracked open the sardine balls 😂
i really like that tin (the first one). understated, no designs, but it looks like it's constructed like a tank. solid, unwavering.
Matt many of the Moroccan ones we get here in the UK, the cheap ones in the supermarket in Olive oil (£0.40 per can) often have eggs in which is my favourite part! 😋

I've been eating canned fish and mollusks for a while but somehow only just now found this channel. A very fun niche find. Also I have no idea why I've never thought about using chopsticks to eat them before but I prefer it now over a fork.
This is me if I grew up with encouragement- In my synth bay eating sardines for strangers on the internet. Thanks for never loving me, mom?
Well, there's the hashish in Morocco. A day downtown shopping for sardines as they hit the spot when you get the munchies
The cheap ones I get are from Canada - so maybe those from Morocco are higher class? I really like the cans from Portugal the best. Canned fish are a great way to store protein and fats (and sometimes a carrot) for over five years.

If you ever do visit, order a grilled set of fresh sardines in summer, with a side of Moroccan salad and sprinkle some lemons on top, preferably in the northern part (the area you can see on a good day from Spain) where the fish come from the Mediterranean, not the Atlantic. The canned stuff has nothing on the real fresh ones.

Those sardine balls might be good heated up and served with fresh steamy rice; the oil would soak up nicely.
Golden smoked sardines on toast is just great, and I feel good eating it cuz its so healthy.
This makes me really want sardines! And all those varieties! Im jealous. I wish I knew Morocco had such a variety before i went there earlier this year. I would have had a sardine feast!
Maybe I’m just hungry but best ever Mattthew (note the Matthew-like thoughtful caveat). Other thoughts: Boulettes = nuggets (?). Does a lack of scales = upscale (?) 🤔
you need to review Gonsalves Sardines. They are Portuguese sardines and they are delish. You can also get them at any Market Basket. Its a South East Mass thing. PLEASE TRY THEM.
Oh you got actual Moroccan canned sardines not export ones. These cost like 50 American cents.
Honestly this made me appreciate my tagine sardines more. I took the taste, the carrot, the texture and all that for granted for way too long that I forgot that to those who never tasted them, this is an experience. I think I'll have them for dinner, tonight. Oh, by the way, I highly recommend you remove as much as the oil as possible before eating to avoid an upset stomach. If you're making a sandwich, you can try my trick: get a fork and mash the sardines. They're soft enough that they'll become a paste easily. This will not only make them spreadable, not only remove more our, but allow you to mix in whatever you desire before spreading it on bread.
I like Moroccan sardines 👍
