Pat Tillman: 7th Round Pick to All-Pro Safety | Pat Tillman: A Football Life | NFL Films

Спорт

In the 1998 NFL Drafted 225 players were taken before Pat Tillman. 3 years later Tillman was an All-Pro safety and set a Cardinals team record with 224 tackles in one season, a record that still stands today.

I went to Leland with Pat. He was one of my best friends, he didnt stand for bullshit. Period. If anyone was trying to hide anything he didnt feel right about, believe me that he would have been a huge threat. I dont believe it was an accident. Never have. I wish the rest of you couldve had the opportunity to know him, he could always make you smile. Best shoulder to cry on, love him. Sorry he's the strongest, smartest, most driven person I've ever had the honor to grow up with. He loved football, always tore up our home games with superspeed even as short as he was compared to most fb players, especially NFL, still held his own with ease. I'm sure for most of you out there leaving your passion(and millions of dollars) seems illogical or even stupid. But Pat was always choosing the RIGHT path, not the easy one. His family is amazing, his wife Marie, so sweet... They knew he had to do what he felt was right. I hope this sheds some light on the guy that all men should try to pattern their beliefs, patterns, morals, and inner-strength after. The world would be such a better place... 💕

I remember going to Cardinals kids camp when I was young and being so damn excited to meet Jake Plummer. Well, when I finally got through Jake's gigantic line he seemed like he didn't care at all. I was pretty upset, but my dad said, "Hey, let's go over here, you're gonna like this guy, he hits like a truck." Pat had a much shorter line to meet him (like maybe none at all) but when I did he was so kind and awesome and excited. To this day he is the coolest celebrity-type person I've ever met. I got my first jersey that day. White Arizona Cardinals home with Tillman #40 on the back. He graciously signed it of course. Hero.

Even with all the comments about his patriotism and his death, and rightly so they should be said, THIS is the part of this clip that made me relook at how I think about Pat Tillman. The tone setting he did with that one act probably says more about him as a person, politics aside, than anything else. He was a professional. Period. And professionals don't tolerate certain things that hinder success. He showed that and showed why he did what he did both individually and as a team leader. Ronnie Lott would have been proud, I think.

Played against Pat in ‘96 down in Tempe and as a senior all-Conference O-lineman I was pretty damn good at blocking linebackers. Pat was relentless that night and made me look like a fool. Not so much talent as it was his instincts and the size of his heart. It was an honor to play against him. And he still had so much to contribute to the world when he died. RIP #42 Tillman

K H True but blindly following orders takes no skill, nor does it show heroism. I respect the people that risk their lives for this country, no doubt. But not everyone that serves is a hero. Pat actually had leadership mentality that the military needs. To be honest, I can respect somebody for getting dishonorably discharged for standing up for his principles and morals.

He really was one tough man full of heart that got used by the government as an example of a "True patriot" He turned out to be everything the mainstream media/government actually hated though. He was an atheist, a free thinker and later became disillusioned the war in Iraq especially where he told fellow serviceman that it was "Illegal" Spoke out against the Bush administration telling his fellow servicemen to vote for John Kerry in the upcoming election, he had also mentioned how people were ordered to shoot at innocent civilians in his journal and was going to meet up with Noam Chomsky after he had completed to service to discuss his thoughts on the war and what he had witnessed. If he came out he would of been one of the biggest military whistleblowers ever due to his status as an athlete/celebrity and seeing how much influence they have in the world. Army medical examiners came to the conclusion that he was shot at close range with an M16, no more than 10 yards away and tried to get the military to do a criminal investigation but they said no, his body armour and clothing was burnt and his journal and parts of his brain was never recovered. The fact that military lied and said he was killed by the Taliban before changing their story that it was a "Friendly Fire" FIVE WEEKS LATER shows that right away something wasn't right, they awarded him the silver star and gave him a military funeral which is something he did not want and used him as a propaganda tool as what every true "Patriot" Should do and fight for a war where you have no idea what you're really fighting for.

Smooth Criminal nope. Paul Zimmerman named Tillman to his "all-pro" team in a column in 2000. But, you know, he's a single writer. He never made an AP all-pro team. It'd be like if a writer said a player was "in his hall of fame" and we just started calling them a hall of gamer for that.
