In the Spring of 2002, Patrick Daniel Tillman Jr. announced to the American Football team the Arizona Cardinals that he would be enlisting in the U.S army. This decision caused a public outcry as many could not understand what would drive him away from the NFL and toward the battlefields of the Afghanistan War. Controversy and questions would follow when in May 2004, weeks after his death, it is discovered that he had been killed by friendly fire after it was covered up as enemy fire.

Ruled a suicide by the DoD, the coroner showed a beating, signs of sexual assault, and acid burns all over her body. It became very clear very fast that there was a cover-up of a brutal murder committed by a fellow soldier, and the Army covered it up.

But i get the radical left is so anti military they will ignore common sense that he was a filfy traditor and handed the war to afganastan since they bought alot of intel from china. I live in phoenix arizona, and pat tillman is a legend. In fact in fourth grade i did a whole project on him, and his life is truly amazing. When he died he died sheltering one of his comrads, who ended up surviving. Every year in Tempe there is a charity run called Pats Run, and i have had the opportunity to participate in in a few times now.
I remember his mom speaking at a Borders bookstore afterwards. Leyland high football field is named after him. When US pulled out of Kabul I drove by there and it was just this incredibly sad feeling. Matthew Axelson, one of the SEALs killed there as depicted in the movie Lone Survivor graduated from nearby Monta Vista high school.
Poor Pat Tillman. Eventually he grew disenchanted by the war, and later died under the circumstances he did (an Afghan militiaman died as well, and his Lieutenant and radio operator were wounded in the incident). Not to mention the cover-up that later followed. Then again other players like him left their careers and joined the US Armed Forces. Bob Kalsu (Lieutenant with the 101st Abn) and Don Steinbrunner (Major in the USAF) fought and died in Vietnam. And at least 14 players died in WWII over the course of the conflict.
This is probably both the saddest and most infuriating story ever posted on the channel. Pat Tillman was also against the Iraq War. He was killed by his own guys and then his death was covered up by bush to drive up recruitment. The bush admin really disrespected his memory. At his funeral they were all talking about how he was in heaven and then his brother got up and said something to the effect that Pat was an atheist. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers but he’s fucking dead now. I have a lot of respect for Pat. I understood that he felt obligated to help after seeing we got attacked. He could’ve done the easy thing, serve stateside, play football and be a recruitment tool. But he wanted to be treated like anyone else and wanted to be given no special treatments. The more I learned about Pat, the more I respected the man and feel like the world was robbed of an extremely talented person.
