Este es, en mi opinión, el solo más impresionante de toda la carrera de Metheny. Quizá no sea el más bonito o emotivo, pero sí el más parecido a la fluidez y perfección que alcanzan sus solos en los discos, los cuales quizá fueron parcial o totalmente compuestos. En este directo, Metheny estuvo realmente concentrado e inspirado. Parece evidente que no es un solo compuesto, ya que dura más de cinco minutos y se le ve muy desatado. En la historia del jazz hubo músicos que improvisaban muy bien, como Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Stephanne Grapelli, Toots Thielemans, etc. pero de los actuales, todavía no he conocido ningún músico que improvise de esta forma tan melódica, coherente, fácil de entender y con este nivel de detalle que ofrece en cada uno de sus solos. Los solos de Metheny poseen una direccionalidad melódica extraordinaria. Otros improvisadores ofrecerán cosas distintas e interesantes, pero ninguno las cuatro cosas que antes he mencionado a ese nivel. No en vano, admitió ser muy crítico consigo mismo y con su música. En una entrevista afirmó: "Cada noche cuando llego a casa, hago una revisión crítica de cómo ha sido la jornada". Imagino que no solo hace una revisión musical sino también humana.
He "restaurado" este vídeo que corría por la red con mala calidad de vídeo y sobre todo, mal sonido. He masterizado la canción con un ecualizador y un compresor virtual Steinberg-Neve. También he corregido un salto de tiempo que se producía justo al empezar su solo (tal vez por un fallo en la transmisión televisiva). He ampliado el formato de 3:4 (TV) a 16:9 (panorámico) con un recurso psicovisual y corregido el contraste y viveza de los colores de la imagen. Como en mi opinión, es el vídeo del mejor solo de Pat Metheny en directo, ¡merecía todo este trabajo! Hacía años que pensaba hacerlo. Imaginad que Metheny no toca la guitarra sino que habla con palabras, frases, expresiones y pensamientos. ¡Disfrutad del vídeo! :)

My favorite (true) jazz guitarist is Marek Blizinski (dead in 1989). Path is a good, but not extraordinary guitar player.

I've been to a few Pat Metheny concerts in California and Portland Oregon, Seattle WA.
Simply wonderful version!!! All the musicians, the singer Anna Maria Jopek and the backing vocalists are just spectacular, but Pat is really "over the top"!!! One of the best guitarists and musicians in music history! Thanks for so much Beauty!!!

Decidedly HAUNTING. Both Pat's guitar as well as Anna Maria's voice (incredible control and range). Pat never plays same (version) of music at any performance---always straying and experimenting. He claims to never listen to any of his music he has played in the past. I've been listening to him since the mid-70's, just after he departed U. of Miami School of Music. Always true to his craft. Pat ran more Chi through that solo than most people use in a lifetime. I'm wondering if and when he is ever going to be recognized as the supreme genius and spiritual master (yes, I said it) that he actually is.

I had that album in which a group of musicians from Poland wrote lyrics in Polish to some of the beautiful songs of Pat Metheny. I remember A.M. Yopek and her splendid voice and beauty! Thank you for sharing this Music!

I've been listening to this since the original came out and this performance takes it hands down. A.M Jopek is such a nice addition, but Pat's solo is from another world! By the six minute mark I was on a journey with such a mix of emotions and tears of joy in my eyes. Music just doesn't get better than this.

Lyle is missing on this version, but Pat pushes it to the max !!! So sweet the voice of Anna, giving it an extra colour and singing Lyle"s phrases. But the definetly best version is on "Travels". I was flashed hearing it live in "Dortmunder Westfalenhalle" when i was about 20 years old. This track opens doors to another universe, it pins down all the longing of human mankind, we should much more search for moments like these instead of doing all the trash that is going on at the moment worldwide. Peace & Love & Passion 💓💓💓

Peut être qu'on s'éloigne un peu de l'original que l'on trouve sur l'album Travel qui reste pour moi la plus belle version,elle est plus envoûtante et puissante que celle ci. Quand j'écoute Are you gong with me?, c'est sur Travel que je l'écoute. J'aimerais bien avoir un avis sur la question ? Merci
