I have 1 sow ( a white ) that I hand feed/raised as a piglet after its mother died, she is 1 of 9 piglets. She is on a mates property here in Australia living in a pig tractor, when she has finnished digging up the soil he hooks the tractor up to his 4b and pulls it 16 foot where she begins to dig that up. In the previous position he then plants sweat corn/sweat potatoe/pumkin/ water melon etc etc. She's due to have her little family in a month or so's time. I love watching ur utube's for ideas, altho I cant use all of them due to the circumstances but I do find ur information very very helpfull and enjoy watching u guys. Thanks guys and keep up the great work

I love excel save so much work once it's set up! Once you put in the formula, i use it for the guy that opens my yard in winter, my weight loss, my preachinghour in a month, my monthly budget, etc.

We have AGHs behind 2 wires on t-posts and FG step-ins, but we have feeders that will take a shock to get back to their moms so we are doing exactly this for them 😁👍. If you do wire over buy on your energizer is my #1 advice.

I've always loved a Yorkshire / Hamshire mixed.. The tall round Hamshire mixed w/the long Yorkshire made for some large hearty pigs / sows..

My dad has raised "free range or pasture" hogs for years! He gets food waste from local canneries and food pantry to feed them. His feed bill is super cheap. They stay on the dirt. Any food waste from the house goes to them. Also you can use the pen for a good garden.

Great videos mate. Loving the pig series. Those T posts and panels are a great product. Looks alot easier than using a post n pig netting set up that we use here in the UK. Ive only seen something similar over here that looked like it had been in place since the 60s.

Good stuff! Sounds like you've got a good plan! That 55 gallon barrel and pig nipple will be a life changer as far as watering is concerned! I wish we would have done it right away! I really miss having pigs here, but dont know if we'll get them again here. Will live vicariously through you all this time. 😁

Thank you for sharing. We have 4 acres, and want to do something like this. I looked at Joel Salatin. I couldn’t help but wonder, what are you going to plant in the rotation paddocks for them to root in. Also are there other sources of food like grocery stores or restaurants scrap.

We are totally mobile using T posts and hog panels. We have them in a square 16'x16'. We add three panels to the side of that square, remove the panel between the two squares, herd the pigs into the new square, replace the middle panel and take down the three sides from the old paddock. Repeat this as often as the pigs need to be moved. It works great and the pigs are tilling a HUGE garden for us, removing poison ivy vines as they go. We use pliers to do the clips. We buy our pig feed from New Country Organics in Waynesboro, VA. It's the same place Joel Salatin buys his feeds. Hog feed is $28 per 50# bag. Our two American Guinea Hog sows go through two bags in four weeks. We mix it half and half with alfalfa pellets and soak it all overnight with water. They get a scoop of each per day split into two feedings.

New Sub! I would suggest getting the premiere one fencing as well to help move them around. Especially if you have a boar and a sow you won't want to keep them together all the time, it would give you more ability to split them up as needed.

Here in Australia I have 1 pregnant sow and where she is located there is dung Beatles, the dung Beatles are harmless and eat her dung in just about a night, they bury it under ground. By the afternoon u can hardly tell where he dung is. When he moves the pig tractor he then plants out that area with vegetables en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dung_beetle

Why can’t you use an extension cord on an energizer? I’ve been doing it for a few years now without any issues.

I don’t know if you have Azure Standard, but they sell food grade containers for cheap

Once you train them to the electric fence you can run a wire around the woods and turn them loose

Hey Beau, I'm in Oz so it may be different there but there are olives imported here in 55 gal drums once the importer has bottled the olives the drums are surplus and sold very cheap ( sometimes given away). May be worth a look. Thanks for the vid

Great idea!

To stop them from rooting for the most part or completely is use Hog Rings. It is a ring that doesn't pierce but just clamp on the front of the snout. It doesn't hurt to put it on but it makes it uncomfortable when they root. It helps.

I've heard horror stories about the hog netting, I think it depends on the hog and the energizer you have. Our pigs run screaming if they happen to touch our aluminum wire fence, we only have two wires. Your pigs acted like it hurt a little but nothing like my pigs react.

Check out farm builder on KZread and I think keeping it Dutch did a breakdown of expenses as well.

Have you ever dealt with a kind of plants Heracleum aka hogweed? If yes, can your pigs tolerate it? Since it's called hogweed with a reason. Thanks!

Brother at this point you could probably just run a couple strands hot wire and they would stay in. I have raised hogs for years and have kept them in with just one strand.

@@BetterTogetherLife We tried the Premier One hog fencing and the girls just ran right under it, lifting it with their noses. The shock didn't even seem to faze them. And it was HOT. They proceeded to do the same thing with all of the chicken nets and ate all of our eggs until we did the hog panel set up.

Are you slopping the hogs too?

Great project. We started the same way using 4 sides one panel each side, then expanded a few panels at a time. Then just a couple wires for the larger area when the pigs are bigger. The pigs really like to root up the ground and will push the dirt up against the electric wire and disable or diminish the effectiveness of the fence, so the extra, higher strand of wire helps. Pigs are lots of fun and pretty easy to raise.

Well, that is a healty way You rise your own beacon. Jokes aside you can rise them in turnips. Also, using Oak acorns like in Spain. In Argentina they use corn and the corn cane. That options will slash down the food bill a lot and make them grow healty. And make sure they eat some insects it is very god to them.

I have used those totes outside myself. You should have used the black totes that are UV protected. The one you used will be brittle and fall apart in less than 6 months.

have you ever watched lumnah acres and how he does his pigs? he starts them like you in the panels with electric fence and then opens the gate later to one strand of electric wire. it works good for him. I have never tried it but this is what my son will be doing as well

For your hog trough simply put one long board lengthwise down the middle and 2 cross boards dividing it into thirds. They can get their heads in to drink but can’t wallow or splash it out.

I have a question about , butcher the hogs. Are their going to have await time. I have noticed that problem in Okla. And Missouri homesteaders having trouble. Why aren't homesteaders groups start a processing plant?

I had a little difficulty getting the spreadsheet to open, but it finally did opened. I noticed your cost per pig value did not include the column where processing is included, effectively cutting the price for whole/ half pig dramatically. Was that intentional?

Since costs vary so much per processor, we are going to let our customers pay directly and work out their cuts with that processor. You could definitely adjust your personal sheet to reflect that in the calculation of you are selling by the 1/2 hog.-kelly

No I never did. Its a cool idea, but I would rather be "frugal, not cheap". Not that you're idea is a bad idea. But I would rather spend the money now so that I never have to replace these hog panels and T posts, EVER. I believe putting the energy into building it our of pallets, you would someday have to replace them. Although, at $1-$2 a piece its very affordable to replace them.

@@satinlace5843 hi there, im in Australia and a lot of the pallets here have been treated with pesticide and fungicide as they come from overseas , so was wondering do you guys do the same thing and if so it probably wouldn't be good for the pigs so it might pay to ask abput the origins of the pallets and if they've been treated. I found this out as I used to work for a company that used to import alot of products on pallets. When I ask the boss if I could grab some for a fire pit night he said no because they've been treated with pesticide/fungicides and he didnt want us breathing in the toxic fumes.So it might pay to get only food grade material. Happy pigging

If they have enough room to root and forage, nearness is no problem. But they’ll need to move from paddock to paddock to keep smell down.

They're not cheap. About $24 p panel. If you are selling the meat or deferring your cost in meat savings, then you might need a lot of pigs or 2 rounds before you recoup the cost.--kelly

Once the animals are trained to the shock...they shouldn't challenge it very often, if ever, once they have that pain barrier established. You aren't containing Jurassic Park Velociraptors here...😉👍

Why do you have to move them? I’ve known people who have a set spot and that’s where they stay.

as a pig raiser for 30 years you make it way over board, 3 pigs only need a pen 8 feet by 10 feet, do not run the electric wire next to the pannals, run one eletric wire across the center of the pen, so there is no fence on ether side, stop the electric one strand wire 3 feet before the other side, so to get to the other half of the pen they have to go though that 3 foot opening, after 2 weeks, run a one wire electric though the bush in a huge are, putting the one wire a foot off the ground, in 2 weeks they are well trained to that one wire, WITH NO PANELS OF ANY KIND.. open there pen let them go free in the wired off area, as they get bigger lift the wire up to 24" off the ground, the wir can get covered in 5 fet of snow, but they know were the wire is at all times, DONT wast money on any electric netting, it is not needed at all, a one 14ga wire is all that is needed once trained right. STOP OVER COSTING, STOP OVER WORKING, STOP OVER THINKING one little wire though the bush is all that is needed, i use small brush to mount the wire to, or i by 24 foot long 3/8 rebar an cut 3 foot long peaces,, no costly tee posts to hold the wire

I am very sorry to hear this Cody. Start small, grow a tomato plant on your balcony. Learn how to bake sourdough bread. Get rid of that smart phone and scale down ALL miscellaneous spending. Ask you employer for more hours, find a better job, work work WORK!!!!!!!!!!! This dream took us 7 years to accomplish. We saw the goal, and busted our butts to make it happen.

Pigs will not poop where the eat sleep or drink

Pasture pigs that’s more like pigs on dirt, when it rains it will be a big mud hole, so how can you say it’s pasture raised pork , it’s confinement raised pork
