Works good if you can put the trailer there a couple days before hand and feed them in there and let them go in and out of the trailer to get them used to it. Then the day you need to load them, feed them and they will go in without all that stress.

You could check out H and H feed, they are non gmo, corn and soy free and about $19/50# bag delivered. The catch is you need to order a pallet at a time, 2000lb but with pigs they eat so much that has never been a problem. And the 2000lb is total feed, you could mix with chicken feed too which is what we do. Also feeding on the trailer for about 3 days before you need to take them to market makes it so so easy. That is if you can borrow the trailer that long.

Guys you could have just opened one door the pigs will follow each other when they hear the food call, no pig wants to be left out when its food. (but you learn as you go) next time you are behind the pigs have 2 people and 2 boards to direct the pigs in the direction you want them to go one person is not enough when there is 3 pigs. but congrats on your victory.

I'll be interested in your bookkeeping results: I strongly suspect that if you compare your final figures to a fancy meat market in say, Austin or Houston or DFW (matching quality with quality), you'll find you did quite well. And knowing *exactly* what those pigs ate their whole lifetime is h-u-g-e. And PS: Now Ollie can add "animal whisperer" to his ever-expanding resumé. «grin»

We raised pigs for 20 years we have done our share of chasing pigs. One year 5 pigs escaped and walked 4 properties away. I found myself counting up the cost and how much we money we had in to them, to prepare myself if we couldn't find them. ( there is a corridor behind our house that goes into the national forest) when we found them they just trotted home as happy as could be. Luckily the back end of the properties were all finced. But the propertie they were on was 80 acres they could have wondered over if they had wanted to not counting the corridor to the national forest. So ya I am feeling ya. Lol

Hi guys I know it’s the wrong animal but I just wanted to say that a great chook are whyndotte’s or susix great nature even the rosters. But tell Kelly if she ever comes across a bad roster again they won’t attack if your facing them only when you turn your back. And if you get a nasty one pick it up they are (territorial) so pick it up and put it somewhere else in the pen to confuse it. Also if you show your scared that doesn’t help but a roster will get used to the people who go in the pen and won’t bother them so make sure you go in a few times a week and he will be fine but if you can’t they will usually only challenge you a few times then they will leave you alone I hope this helps. I found all this out by working on a commercial breeder farm. Anyway hope it helps and goodluck

I have a small question about your children: when they get older and taller where will they be sleeping. The loft will be to small for all 4 children, and the girls will need their space away from the boys. Will you get another shed to home for the kids to sleep in ?? Check out KZread channel mylittlehomestead they built separate bedrooms for each of the children and each bedroom has a small living space separate from the mail house and the parents (Independance from the parents) For your kids 2 bedrooms and a study area for them to do their schooling or playroom instead of the main house.

  • @BetterTogetherLife

Yup! That is the plan. Either we will give the kids an opportunity to build THEIR OWN HOUSE as a teenager..... which would be so incredible and the greatest homeschool and character building experience! Or.... how knows! We are ok with the fact that we don't know what is going to happen. We might build a traditional house here or we might upgrade to a larger piece of land. All we know is that we are LOVING this life right now!!! Thanks for the question Harold and for watching. It means a lot! :)
