From Japanese samurai culture, the cutting of the samurai's topknot represents separation from the samurai's lord, either by the lord's death, or the samurai leaving them. For Zuko and Iroh, it represents their separation from the Fire Lord as fugitives, possibly even an end to their loyalty to him. It also serves to change their appearance so they can blend in with the Earth Kingdom people and not be recognized. It's kind of a big deal.

I don't know if you guys remember, but back during The Storm episode, during 1 of Zuko's flashbacks when he fights his father we see Iroh, Zhao, & a girl watching Zuko get burned. Well, the girl is Azula, & we find out a lot about her & Zuko's relationship, as well as more about their father & Iroh over the course of this Season, which helps explain more about Zuko's character.

ah, Azula, the best villain of the entire show. And everyone's gay awakening as a kid 😂 When she came around, the show became 10x more interesting, honestly! Oh and did you guys see the new photo stills release of the Netflix adaptation? June jumped STRAIGHT outta the cartoon!

Pretty cool how Daniel Dae Kim played General Fong here but will play Firelord Ozai in the live action. And props to Mark Hamil being Ozai in the cartoon. Such a legend! I just hope the girl they got to play Azula in live action can play it as crazy/twisted/sadistic as as Azula is here. I'm sure they chose her because she's good, but damn, I don't envy any of the actors for the shoes they have to fill. But so far in interviews, the Sokka, Aang, and Zuko actors all pass the vibe check with flying colors!

@@nickwatic ohhh okay! Yeah shes great! They're all fantastic, but I don't think of any of this as replacing. The 2010 movie didn't make the cartoon any less amazing to rewatch, so even if this doesn't end up being good, or even if a given character doesn't meet my liking, I can always rewatch the cartoon and still love it just as much 😊

Get ready to cry. Tears will fall down several times here I know it. This book has my favorite scene. I’ll tell you when that chapter comes! ❤❤❤

Book 2!!!!! Great reaction btw. 😊😊. When people say wait till Book 2 it gets good. They massively underhype Book 1. ATLA would still be amazing if it never got Book 2 or 3. Wouldnt be a Masterpiece but itd still be considered really good. Theres this line i read somewhere: Book1 walked so Book 2 could run and Book 2 ran so Book 3 could Fly. The tides speech is an Amazing way introduce Azula. Idk Whether u like her as a person or not but u will like her as an Antagonist (i personally do). She has blue flames which r hotter because of her natural talent. There IS a reason for that. But id end up spoiling some stuff so ill wait on that. She is 14 btw. Im pretty sure Uncle Iroh and Zuko cutting the hair off is inspired by the Japanese topknot Also this was Stated in one of the Kiyoshi novels (which r Canon btw): "In the Fire Nation, hair was heavily linked with honor. Sometimes the losers of an important Agni Kai would shave parts of their head bald, laying patches of their scalp bare to symbolize an extra level of humility from their defeat, but the topknot was always sacred. It was never touched except in circumstances akin to death." So theyve pretty much accepted banishment. And that they aren't royalty anymore. Creators choosing to give the Avatar State the High Risk High Reward treatment was a really good decision. If it werent for that Aang would be overpowered. This way Aang and us viewers wont think of relying on it. Its not reliable. Its a last resort.

The Actor who voices Azula is Mexican descent and she’s so pretty.

I would really like to see an Avatar tv show that follows the lives of the 6 named Avatars before Aang; Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk (Water), Yangchen (Air), Szeto (Fire), & Salai (Earth). While we have the novels & comics that explore their lives a bit more, it would be cool to see more of the 6 of them in an actual tv show. Also, while the exact number is never said on screen, there are at least 100 Avatars that came before Aang, & during The Legend Of Korra we see the origin story of the 1st Avatar, & I can't wait to see your reaction to that 2 parter.

We do not actually know that the Earth Avatar before Szeto is in fact Salai. Nothing is really known about Salai, not when they lived and what nation they hailed from. The only thing we know is that they were an Avatar that lived before Szeto, but not necessarily directly before him. Until we finally get some facts about this Earth Avatar, the fandom has dubbed him Avatar Gimli :).

for me it is interesting that even though the firenation has issues with classism (and other stuff no spoilers) sexism in the royal family is not seen that much. Whereas in both water tribes (the north even more oc) they are more kind but have stricter gender roles. I like that they start with this is "bad" and this is "good" and then let you know that every nation over time has their issues and things they get right :) briliant writing. Also even though the show is made by men mostly we see the absence of the male gaze which is so rare (in comparison with mainstream animes/comics)

Ok dude. Chill. Clearly, you r a Zuko stan. And typing rage comment for no reason. They were not hating on zuko. Meesh said "this is why I hate sometimes", right after Zuko was a jerk to Uncle Iroh. But her tone was not hateful. She was not screaming or had an angry expression. She just said something very obvious out of frustration. Please don't rage comment. Its not easy making reaction content,editing , etc. And comments like yours are discouraging and demoralizing 🙏🙏.
