I first saw her in Dorian Gray and I LOVED her ever since and follow her rolls. My MOM said asked me if she was black I told her "no". My mom said, she's bi-racial them, look at her eyes and 👄 lips. I was adamant that she was white. And I'm like, no Mom she's just one of those European women with big eyes and full lips..and my mom goes, "that may be, but there's a negro in that wood pile" If anyone knows American historical literature, that phrase, "nego in the wood pile" goes back to the 'one drop rule' as it pertains to people with black ancestry that are passing for white, but there is cause for suspicion that they might on fact be or have black people in their lineage... And here, this woman HALL, didn't even know! I didn't know! But my Mom suspected So fascinating

In America almost everyone has people from all different backgrounds in their ancestry. It doesn’t matter. We are only judged by others perceptions. She’s had every privilege imaginable, let’s not pretend this is some kind of revelation.

When you talk about race in the U.S. your race is not about your chosen label but rather the classification others have about your assumed ‘kind.’ It’s not about physiology but rather an assigned cultural status. They say that unlike the tradition of British history from the past we are a classless culture. Are we really?

As the white population in the US decreases more mixed race people will fall under the white umbrella. This continues to happen. The Irish, Italians and Jews became “white” in the last 70 years and mixed race people may also become white soon too. It’s historical. This is the way white supremacy can survive and thrive- it needs people to buy into the system.

@jays-move Not entirely true! The cop that was made fun because he was 18% Black, not 10% was still considered White by his peers; he was just made fun of. I saw that on the news. Moreover, in Europe and Latin American countries with European being the highest population, they don't go by the old American 1 drop rule( 1924,1927- 1967) they go by phenotype. It is said about 1/3 of White Americans have an admixture( very small) amount of Black ancestry and are still White in society and globally as White. Furthermore, since the advent of dna testing, White Supremacist have done tests and found that some of them have a little admixture of Black African ancestry yet they are still given membership as they said they go by the " mirror " look. The article is online. Also no sane African would call them Black; Africans rightfully have their own definition of Black. Also in England, alot of British have found they have a little Black admixture due to the Mixed race children, Quadroons and Mulattoes migrating their with their White parents( West Indies) and living there and procreation with other Whites, same with France, Spain, Portugal and former colonial powers, nobody calls them nothing else than White even when they know they have some admixture.

Rebecca Hall is the perfect example for the fact that race is nothing but a social construct. She is a quarter black so usually she would be called black, based on a white spremacy "one drop" rule but because she LOOKS white everyone sees her as white. Here are just my two cents: I think we don't even have such thing as a "racial identity" simply because a racial identity does not exist. Why even bother? She is a beautiful, intelligent, talented woman who cares if she is a quarter black or native or whatever? I never understood the obsession of US people for "racial identity". If you believe in racial identity you are by definition a racist because you believe that your race defines you more then anything else. And that is pure nonsense.

Obsession of the US for racial identity? Tell me if England has ever had a Black Prime Minister. Or Germany. Or Italy. Or Ireland. Or Iceland. Or Canada. Or Mexico. Or . . . . well, you get my point. That social construct exists all over the world. And dare I mention one of my co-workers who bragged that she washed her hair three times a day, or another who always mentioned how much lighter skinned than her sister, right in front of her. The two of them worked at a company that didn't allow relatives to be hired - talk about passing!

@@LibbyRal I get your point but you totally missed mine. First off all your question if England had a black prime minister: not exactly black but great britains prime minister Rishi Sunak parents are both from India. Scottlands Prime Minister is Humza Yousaf who is of Pakistani origin. I was not talking about racism. Racism exists everywhere (even if it is not everywheere as extreme as in the states). I was talking about the US obsession with racial identity. When you talk to US people about such topics sooner or later they will tell you that they are "65% irish, 15% scottish, 7% native american, 6% polish, 3% jewish, 3% black and 1% wookie" Also all this ridiculous nonsense like wokeness, cancel culture, bragging about "cultural appropiation", "critical whitenesss", BLM and so on - ALL THIS is a product of US culture. No matter how complex a problem is US people will always somehow manage to make a racial problem out of it. Also i seriously don't get why you tell me that anecdote about a woman who brags about washing her hair three times a day or the fact that she works with her sister at a company that doesn't allowed relatives to be hired? Why would a company don't allow relatives to be hired? And what has this do to with anything let alone racial identity?

@@LibbyRal Libby, are you able to read and understand and english text? I have my doubts. I NEVER said that i am "totally disconnected with the reality of race" . I said QUOTE: "Racism exists everywhere" I say it so that even YOU can understand it: EVERYONE IS RACIST! Okay? OKAY?!? ME TOO! YOU TOO! No need to try to be patronizing. Still in most countries people don't care that much about their ancestry as americans do. I guess that is because they are all disconnected from their origins and try to get them back. I NEVER said that the US is the only country where sone nutjobs are so full of themselve that they believe they like nachos because they are 3% spanish. But i never met anyone who made that stupid ancestry test. I will give you and example how this mindset to make everything a race issue destroys the american society. BLM - the worst organisation one could possibly think of. The problem in the US with police is a) BAD TRAINING: the US police is has the worst training in the western hemisphere. In most western countries police training is 2,5 - 3 years wich means not only that police will learn better ways of communication and deescalation, it means also that mentally and emotianally unstanbe officers will be sorted out during the process. In the US the training is 6 MONTHS! That is a bad joke! In germany we have a psychological test for police officers and up to 97% FAIL this test. This means that psychologically more then 90% are not even suited for this job. They would loose their temper in certain situations but a police officer is NEVER allowed to loose his temper. I don't even know how many police videos of US cops i have seen who escalated a situation or shot someone out of pure incompetence in situations that any european cop would have easily deescalated or end without shooting someone. b) US police officers are often ALONE in their cars. That means when only two suspects are there, for instance in a traffic stop they are the minority and can not oversee the situation wich makes them nervous c) Everyone in the US could be armed, not only with a handgun but also with military style assault rifles wich makes US cops shoot way faster then cops in UK, Germany, France or wherever. So the main reasons for the police killing citizens are BAD TRANING, BAD FUNDING that forces them to drive alone and BAD GUN LAWS! BLM adressed nothing of that and made it all a RACE THING. And as if that is not bad enough these idiots even demand to "Defund the Police"! That is the worst thing you could possible do. Defunding the police would mean even worse training, even less officers who are even more hostile in the face of danger. Also it doesn't really help to better the relationship between black communities and police if the black community want all the officers to loose their jobs. And in the end these black peopel could have made this a movement against police brutality and liberal gun laws generally, because believe it or not hispanic, white, arab, asian or native people ALSO suffer from police brutality and stupid gun laws. But they choose to made it a race thing so all the other ethnics would not join in. The fact that black gangs kill as hundred times as many black people as the police didn't bother them either. THAT is what i mean when i say the US has an OBSESSION WITH RACIAL IDENTITY. If the police shoots black people in high criminality neighbourhoods black people act like their are victims just because they are black. If minorities get a job or a study place based on minority quotes white people act like they are the victim just because they are white. Everybody wants to be a victim in the US these days. It's ridiculous given the fact that the whole world is victim to the US! Also i never said i don't believe you, i said QUOTE: "Why would a company don't allow relatives to be hired?" Have you ever seen a school from the inside missy? Then you should know the difference between a QUESTION and a STATEMENT! This was a QUESTION so i said absolutely NOTHING - i asked a question because in germany where i come from companies would hire everyone as long as he or she is qualified for the job. I know a guy who works in a retirement home together with his wife. I know a girl who is nurse in the same hospital in wich her mother is a doctor etc. THats why i ASKED you because i don't understand why any company would miss the opportunity to get a good employee who has all the qualifications just because he or she is the relative of somemone who works already there.
