The tension between the two women is beauuuuutifully filmed.
Rebecca Hall is a great talent and a extremely beautiful woman.
Her mom is a brilliant opera singer.
This movie was incredible. Oscar!!
Wonderful 👏 I had the feeling the director wanted to say as loud as possible "I am black and I am proud "

@Nicole Eboni she's black and more black than most. Her great great grandfather worked with Frederick Douglass and did some amazing things at Howard University I cannot imagine the generational trauma she has endured. Secret and lies eat at everyone

Of course she’s black and proud! That’s why she married white…
Mariah Carey is the perfect example of white passing. She could have played in this film. Halsey too.

Great movie!
So why didn't they choose people who could pass.

With the two leading ladies she wanted two people who "undeniable Black" to the audience. The audience knows as it is not a secret to the characters or audience/reader . When you have a "secret" you think everyone knows. also the reverse. Hall thought she was white end of. But others came up to her and said she had an "exotic" look . So in that case she though she was white while other "knew" or suspected she wasn't .
Limitless excitement? Endless possibility? The news reporter must have never read anything about the 1920’s or the Harlem Renaissance. The casting is terrible. The director should have acted in the film. I don’t believe either actress looks White enough to pass.

Yes, i agree i didn't think they were light enough to pass eithrt. You could clearly they both were at the very least biracial women.

This storyline was stolen from the late great Steven Corbin and his "No Easy Place To Be" novel... The lady in the movie who is "passing" looks like an African American woman.

Thay need to pay me or I sue them
I see a lot of interviews but no one is REALLY talking the racism within the movie. Especially for the women, Clair and Rene, they not even fully black and from what I gather neither is the person who wrote the movie. Just giving vibes that they’re all racist.🤷🏽♀️ I said what I said.
