Juliette Brown - how right you are! He was awesome - one and only - never another with such amazing looks ( check 1:06 when he smiles- wow!) and such tremendous talent. We are the lucky generation to have seen David - be sooooo brilliant!

As he got older, he really started to look more and more like his father.

I do know that when David's contract was up and the powers that be wanted to continue the show, they considered Rick Springfield and Wesley Eure. Of course, no one could ever replace David, but those other actors were strong contenders. Ultimately it was the network that canceled the show, not the producers.

since neither of them told the studio they were family. he got his part based on his acting not because she was his step mom so that's good news.

Shirley did say producers asked her if she thought David would fit the part before he auditioned. She thought he would. I heard Olivia Newton John was considered for Laurie, but she was not intetested. I also read In the pilot Jack played Shirley' boyfriend. I never saw it. Besides I was only 3 then.

He felt typecasted. Nothing new there. I think if he had embraced Keith's legacy instead of resenting it, his mental health might have been better. Maybe Susan Dey resents Laurie the same way, who knows.
