Part Two of Our FJ Cruiser Transfer Case Swap on The Sequoia

Hey everyone welcome back to the channel in this video we went over the electrical side of doing a manual transfer case swap on the first gen Toyota sequoia. First you will need a wiring harness from 12th state off-road in order to be able to manually engage your front ADD actuator.
Regarding the lights in the dash we were not able to get them to read the signal from the fj transfer case and we instead decided to just tape off the bulbs because the blinking lights do sometimes get annoying.

Hi there, another way to shut those blinking 4wd lights is to remove the 4WD fuse under the dash board

I’m thinking the lights will be flashing all life long until reconfigures the computer, I’m sure you will be fine running with the upgrades along the computer system

You guys making a lot of mickey mouse fixes hurts to see a sequoia go through this but fuuck it seems like you guys know what you’re doing

Yeah putting tape on the lights is something we aren't proud of but its better than having it blink all the time and be a distraction.

Better than having the electric t-case. Perfect. Just got a price for 4000.00 before tax. So I’m totally cool with this. Very clutch!

Is there a reason why your engine light is on?

  • @overlandingworld

    @overlandingworld

Replacing the actuator is more expensive than purchasing a manual transfer case with what we found. You can look on car-parts.com and it will show where they have the t-case available. Do you mean the 4wd lights? They’re on because there is no actuator on the transfer case anymore and so the car is blinking because the computer thinks we do not have 4wd right now.

Love the video. Got 2 questions. First did you ever figure out how to get the dash lights to work properly? If not does your cruise still work?

Sadly we still have not figured it out. Hopefully we can rewire the 4wd computer.

Repost: Front diff switch?front locker? I assume it is because fj only had rear locker. Awesome info on the sequoia.

The front diff on the Sequoia has a ADD system which locks the hubs on the diff. Since we did the fj transferase swap we no longer had control over the front hubs and had to install a manual switch. The FJ cruiser has this as well except a computer does it when you engage 4wd.

There’s a KZread channel called the dirt mile and he swaps a FJ transfer case into a 2010 Tacoma . And he wires it so the lights on the dash work correctly maybe there is some similarities between the wiring of the Tacoma and the Sequoia

Do you retain the center diff lock/unlock feature with this mod, or does that go away with the FJ Cruiser hardware? Are there specific years of Cruiser which need to be utilized for proper fit-up?

you do loose the center diff lock and unlock feature. All the FJ cruiser t cases bolt up.

Did you try swapping over the 4x4 computer from the FJ? It would be happier with the hardware (no electronic t-case actuators). I’m not sure if the wiring harnesses match up, to the shift sensors on the FJ t-case, to get those signals to the 4x4 computer? (Hidden behind the glovebox on all Toyota 4x4s)

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. I will look into the connectors to see if they would work together.
