Monster of a job. Crappy previous foundations, huge blocks, dodgy hips, roasting hot weather. Who would be a brickie! But you two guys seem to make light of it all and get the job done, no matter what. Thank you for the editing and uploads Steve - I'm feeling for you with that hip. Onwards and upwards.

I did a extension on a relatively new build, when the existing foundation blocks were exposed, they were fractured. Why? I can't tell you, but, I've never been happy building a building on an airated moisture sapping block. We do foundations in concrete common bricks. Yes, I know you have to cavity fill etc etc. Those lightweight blocks will not stand the test of time. My bricklaying crystal ball has served me well for 36 years.

Ooooo snapped headers.! Reminds me of a job I did years ago in slough for the council, footing were poured at the wrong level ( not by me I’d like to add 😊) so the only way was to put in snapped headers to get us to correct floor height. Clerk of works went ballistic.! Had to remove brickwork and concrete topped.!!! Bloody nightmare job.!!!

The wall starter which was fixed onto the render. The render should’ve been hacked off, so the wall starter would’ve been fixed fixed directly to the brickwork or block work, which is over behind the render for a structural fitting as the fixings will only go in a little bit if you keep the render on

@@SteveAndAlexBuild so true. A real pain ATM. I found certain wall ties were not quite long enough even though stated as 275. Pre-finished Sill boards are now harder to find. Building inspector was helpful though and a bit more flexible than my past experience. I intended doing brick, 150mm full fill rock wool 32 and block. But found out from the inspector I would need additional 25mm insulation on the inside to meet the code. Ended up using 100mm celotex in the cavity. Not cheap

@steveandalexbuild great video guys, really enjoying this build. Serious question (not a criticism) is there a reason that Alex bedded the trench blocks without full coverage? From what I can see the 2 lines or mortar would struggle to cover the entire 350mm block.🤔
@SteveAndAlexBuild

i did wonder this too. more from a point of if regs are bigger blocks then should it be a tripple line layed in. again a question not criticism. only if you pulled one up you would know the percentage coverage. things like big tiles have funny things go on underneath. also do you wet the concrete down first. cheers
