Part I: LEICA D LUX 8 Review: 2000 Shots Later
Ойын-сауық
PART I:
Welcome to my in-depth review of the Leica D Lux 8! In this video, I'll share my experiences shooting over 2000 images with the Leica D Lux 8, and you'll see plenty of sample images and videos, including stunning 4K footage at 24-30p. I'll also provide a detailed comparison of the Leica D Lux 8 against the Fuji X100VI and Ricoh GRIII.
The Leica D Lux 8, while similar in hardware to the Leica D Lux 7, boasts significant improvements. Notably, the D Lux 8 now shoots RAW DNG files, offering greater flexibility in post-processing compared to the JPEG-only D Lux 7. I found the autofocus to be responsive, even though I tested a prototype firmware. By the time the D Lux 8 is released, its performance should be even more reliable.
The D Lux 8's design takes cues from the Leica Q3, making it look like a mini Q3 when the lens is retracted. It retains the same versatile 24-75mm f1.7 to f2.8 lens, delivering excellent performance in a compact, fast package.
A standout feature of the Leica D Lux 8 is its Micro Four Thirds sensor, which provides impressive dynamic range, potentially surpassing cameras with larger sensors. The camera's handling is comfortable, even without a grip, and its performance is highly responsive, producing great image quality. While it may not compete with the superior sensors and optics of the Leica Q3 or M11, the D Lux 8 serves as an excellent secondary camera, especially for those who prefer carrying a body with a prime lens.
Though the D Lux 8 can shoot video, I wouldn't consider it the best option for vlogging or hybrid shooting. It excels as a pocketable photography camera. Priced around $1600, it's a great entry point into the Leica ecosystem.
After extensive shooting, I'm pleased with the results and the control offered in post-processing. In this video, I'll discuss whether the Leica D Lux 8 is worth the investment and who it’s best suited for.
Make sure to watch both parts of this comprehensive review. If you find value in this video, please like and subscribe for more content like this. Enjoy!

Which is your favorite pocketable camera carry?

I put all cameras such as the LX100, D-Lux, X30, X100 into more of a portable class as all of their lenses - even when retracted - stick out too much to fit in a pocket. So my top choice then is the Fujifilm X-E3 or X-E4. The X-E3 has the front mode dial and bit more buttons while the X-E4 sports a tilt-screen. Either can be configured with a small lens and not take up much more bulk/weight than the D-Lux while also providing a bit more to hold on to as well as flexibility and APS-C. Based on what I know of the LX100, D-Lux 8 would be still be a contender.

I was getting really bored with all the other initial negative reviews of this camera, but wow, really nice to see yours here, in particular seeing many of the other reviews of the D-Lux 8 show quite soft images, and yours are tack sharp. My current favourite pocket camera is my Ricoh GRD IV. I just love this camera, even though I will admit and being 12 years old, with a CCD sensor the poor thing is getting very 'lo-fi' by today's APS-C standards, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the DNG files it creates are really excellent. I briefly owned a Ricoh GR II which was an amazing camera and that would've been a keeper if it hadn't have developed the dreaded stuck shutter and lens problem. Ricoh's quality control post their CCD models isn't great. I also owned the Ricoh GR III, but I really didn't like it much. I'm an old Leica M6 owner and I really wanted another Leica but without spending megabucks (I'd have to remortgage my house and probably sell my children to slavery in order to purchase an M11!). I've also tried the Olympus E-P7, which is also a fantastic 20mp m43 camera, around the same size of the D-Lux 8 and with interchangeable lenses (so will fit the amazing Leica 15mm f1.7, a lens I already have, use and love) but it doesn't have a viewfinder, and of course isn't a Leica!

I found that the optical image stabilization on while walking produces bad results. And i stated that in a call out in the video. Turning off the OIS and cranking the shutter speed is the best way to get sharp images. But again I think this will be solved in the new firmware. or I hope. Reviewing a camera with a prototype firmare is a tricky review that's why I am saving my final conclusions when I can test the real deal. As you've seen I did not recommend the camera and advise everyone checks it out for themselves. I can recommend other cameras with confidence but not this one yet.
Video quality on this video is 🔥

Nothing wrong with the Panasonic. But if you can wait something tells me that you are ok with what you have now.
It’s certainly an expensive camera. I don’t understand all the hate against it having a previous gen sensor. If the sensor was good then, why can’t it be good enough now? It doesn’t really matter if other sensors are now “better” in terms of dynamic range or detail resolution. Some of my favourite pictures were taken with a D-Lux 2 which is far inferior to this camera. To me, it’s the haptics that matter. If these are good, then it’s a valid option to consider for a travel/everyday camera.

You don't understand? Should be pretty crystal clear. You're paying premium for something that's 6 years old, how can you not understand where the hate is coming from lol. Come on dude. In terms of tech, 6 years old is ancient. Yeah give me an electronic device with the internals that are 6 years old, comments like this are the reason companies can get away with releasing "new" products with negligible amount of upgrades, they win, the consumers lose.
@ianforber
Ай бұрын
I don’t understand why people chase new tech just for the sake of it. The camera is way too expensive but not because of the tech it offers. It’s just too expensive! Same as Fuji X100 series - they’ve only now put in IBIS when it should’ve been in the V and arguably IV. Didn’t make them rubbish cameras. Did make them too expensive though.
