In the wedding dance, Percy's sadness is palpable. He is going through the practiced motions of the dance. Chauvelin's downcast expression speaks volumes. But it is her smiling, impassive countenance that puzzles me. She is on show at her wedding and is putting the best face on it, but when her eyes meet his, I sense a caution and puzzlement. He is not reacting as she expected.

The little boy who plays the Dauphin is heartbreakingly adorable. His poor, sweet little voice when he has to denounce his mother and father…=(

I LOVED this movie when I was growing up. So well written, so well acted and the costumes and sets are beautiful. It stands the test of time, and damn Jane Seymore was SO gorgeous.

You can see from the wedding dance (and the courtly dances at Lord Grenville's ball) that Jane Seymour is a graceful dancer. In later years, she was featured dancing on a TV show.

The man who plays Robespierre is perfect. Especially when he is at the Temple prison and examining the Prince ... when he talks about the defiance in his royal eyes, his own eyes open wider for one split second ... he gives me the creeps

An ironic thing to happen while this scene was being filmed...at about the 2:24 mark, when Robespierre is saying his final lines, the torch behind him flares when he says 'trace', then he continues with 'defiance in those Royal eyes...'.

I can understand why she refused to answer him. Just the thought of him believing others explicitly before her and then asks her for an explanation. At first I wouldn't want to deign that with a response either, he should know better. Of course though I would rather he knows my truth and afterwards how he decides to move forward with that information would tell me a lot about him. Sigh......Still awesome!!! =)

What is the function of the short stick Percy carries at the garden party and afterward when they arrive. And notice how Marguerite extends her arms so the butler/valet can remove her shawl for her. I wonder who buttons her dresses and keeps her gowns so puffed and perfect. Ah, aristocracy in Britain is a far cry from that in France!

Now I think the short stick is the walking stick Percy used at the garden party. It telescopes into a short stick when not in use.
