To the person who posted this : thank you from the bottom of my heart. We had to read the scarlet pimpernel in 10th grade (12 years ago). I had the best teacher and I remember her enacting this story like it was yesterday. She was the reason I learnt English. She passed away few years ago when she was still young. This is one story that is dear to my heart. Live on in our hearts, Mrs. Lily Mary.

We all loved this movie ... My mother & my children it is one of our Classic favorites & we adored Anthony Andrews ... We lost one of my sons at 35 who absolutely loved films & knew all Trivia from old Classics to new movies .... He would enact scenes & quote dialogues at the drop of a hat .... Everyone adored him .. Today watching this (after a while) had me hearing his constant comments & pointers not to miss a scene or certain dialogue our favorite the library scene .... Oh it's been such a pleasure ... Enjoyed the movie as the print is good too .

Fun fact: the guy who plays the Count de Beaulieu (for those not listening closely, he's the aristo being saved in this snippet of the movie) is Timothy Carlton, aka Timothy Carlton Congdon Cumberbatch, aka Benedict Cumberbatch's dad! I found this out a couple months ago and thought that was the coolest thing EVER.

Even if we hadn't known it was Timothy Carlton from the credits, I still reckon I could have picked him as Benedict Cumberbatch's dad just by looking at him - talk about a spitting image, the apple sure didn't fall far from that tree!

"I think that the guillotine was too harsh for the aristocrats." ...Actually, what's ironic about the Guillotine becoming the symbol of the Reign of Terro's bloodshed that is that it was actually designed as a more humane method to deal with aristocrats. While hanging could take up to an hour or an axeman could need 20 swings to get it done, the Guillotine was quick and painless. But because there is this giant, menacing device with a huge blade, it had become of threatening symbol of violence.

I remember the night this movie first aired on CBS, and I have always loved it. Anthony Andrews does an amazing job, and Jane Seymour? Well, what man could not agree that she was the "most beautiful woman in France." Malcom Jamieson is great, and Sir Ian McKellan? Well, I have yet to see him in something where I didn't like him, but this was the first time I ever saw him and his Chauvelin was the perfect adversary for Anthony Andrews' Sir Percy.

Leslie Howard was the best Scarlet Pimpernel (1934) and Merle Oberon the best Marguerite. Anthony Andrews has similar looks as Leslie Howard and portrayed the part in the same way/style as Howard. Leslie Howard was involved in getting fugitives fleeing Hitler out of Europe. He made a movie about those activities: Pimpernel Smith

I love this version of the S.P. I've seen the 1930's version and the 1990's version, but I liked this one the best. The 30s version was a bit slow, while the 90's version didn't seem to have the humor of this version. The 90's version of Sir Percy didn't seem like as much of a fop compared to this version. Not that the others were bad; they weren't. This was just the best.

We could use a mess of Percy s in the US. Without jobs, things could get ugly pretty fast. I wouldn't want to see anything happen to Leon Panetta, he's a great guy.

I love this version of the S.P. I've seen the 1930's version and the 1990's version, but I liked this one the best. The 30s version was a bit slow, while the 90's version didn't seem to have the humor of this version. The 90's version of Sir Percy didn't seem like as much of a fop compared to this version. Not that the others were bad; they weren't. This was just the best.
