Part 5: 600 Mile Drive to Gulches Off-Road Park in South Carolina - 2013 Ultimate Adventure Week

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The final episode of the 2013 Ultimate Adventure follows the well-worn group of 25 custom 4x4s from the sands of Daytona Beach towards the rain and mud of South Carolina on a 600 mile road trip. Along the Buccaneer Trail they encounter bridges, ferries, and mechanical misfortune. The final day is spent beating on their 4x4s at the Gulches Off Road park, South Carolina's premier (and only) wheeling destination. With trails named Pirates Revenge, Shipreck, Death Valley, and Radical Ravine, it's easy to see why this is such a killer park.
Catch the entire week of 2013 Ultimate Adventure on the Motor Trend Channel October 28th through November 1st with a new video premiering each day!

skip is the man. some time around when this video came out actually I drove down there 3 hours or so from charlotte. lifted Toyota still with IFS. He explained the trails really well, told me some areas to avoid with my truck, gave me a discount rate to enter, and was otherwise overall super nice. Told me if I needed anything to just call up and he would send someone out to me. It was a perfect dry hot day and I completed all the marked trails (17 at the time) without any issues. I did skip some of the real difficult rock climb parts, but still completed every trail. It is a great park that with some spotting and picking the easier lines, even stock rigs can go and have a day of fun at. And there are several spots within the park that are for hardcore rigs also. So except for the time it took to get there, it is a great value also, for spending a whole day doing anything you want to do offroad WITH the ability to call back to the office for help if you get stuck, (at the time) $20 is great.

If you put your brakes on the tires lock up and you just slide and have very little control. If you put the transmission in first and the transfer case in low range the tires will turn slowly and hold you back, but keep turning.

Have you ever thought of doing a ultimate family adventure. We wheel all over the north east and I usually have 3 to 4 of my kids, wife and 2 dogs that go along. I think their are a lot of your readers out their that would love to do something more family friendly. We run a 1989 Ford Bronco with XO-Skeliton cage on 42" tires, dana 60 front axle 4 linked and moved forward 4", dana 80 rear 4 linked and moved back 10", 5.8L engine 203/205 Transfer Cases. I would pull and overlander trailer around on a trip like the ultimate adventure but drop it at the camp sites. Thank You and love the shows.

When crawling a truck down a hill, as in allowing its low gearing and engine compression to slow it, often times its better to just let the engine slow you than apply the brakes. This allows the tires to rotate 'all be it very slowly' without locking up by braking and sending you into a slide. Ceramic pads are actually worse in low speed and normal street driving as they require a certain heat range to be affective. Unless your track racing or towing heavy loads, they are stupid to have.

Good gawds.. Okay. Not every day. No. I work every day. In my shop, I build rockcrawlers, rally cars and track cars. Im building a new personal crawler as we type. 77 chevy cab, 6x6 with rockwells and 46" XL tires. I raced in pro gravel rally for years. You dont know that scary is, man. Ive been crawlin' for 30 years. When your geared low enough, its better to let the rig roll than brake. Not saying they are not using them. Its just better to let the rigs crawl.
