    First of all, I have to say what an incredibly well made video series you have put together here! So much is covered with detailed information, whilst still being completely accessible to even the most ‘Green’ novice (such as myself). Hats off to you - liked and subbed! Secondly, I had a question or two if you would please: - There is mention multiple times throughout this series of an “Advanced Settings Video,” am I missing something or is this yet to be released? - I was wondering (read: hoping), whether there would be an episode released where you gave a breakdown of the video capture capabilities of the TG-5? Whilst I have a keen interest in photography, video capture is the direction I’d wish to go in... An episode that covered the basic settings to capture the best footage without strobes or additional wide/macro lenses, and then advancing on to a rig that had those add-ons and covered the required changes in exposure and settings for those respective features would be excellent. Is this something that is planned for the future, or could you provide direction or a link to an alternative source where I can find this information? That would be tremendously appreciated! Many thanks and look forward to your upcoming videos. Sean

    Awesome video series! Looking forward to use the ideas here. Quick question, as I noticed that the presence of strobes means the depth might be significant because of lack of light, or at night. Do you have tips for shooting the tg-5 on shallower dives/subjects. Planning to shoot from 10-20m depth :)

  • @backscatteruw

    @backscatteruw

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thank you for the feedback! You can use strobes at any depth. They are more for controlling the style and exposure of the image, not necessarily depth-related. Ambient light shooting performance will definitely be better at shallower depths with more available light. Feel free to contact us directly via phone or email at sales@backscatter.com and we'll be happy to get you dialed-in for your specific needs!

    There is an accessory setting for attachments and wide angle lenses is an option. Does that do anything? Any setting difference when not using a strobe like large reef shots or shipwrecks from a distance? Or in natural light conditions? Any lanyard options for lens? Just wondering like say CA oil rig dive in 800' water and trying to clear lens. Don't drop. Or I leave it off and shot macro.

    The accessory setting for attachments and wide lenses only applies to the Olympus brand accessory lenses that are not meant for use with the PT-058 underwater housing. They won't do anything to help for most of our needs. You may want to increase your ISO a few stops, up to about a maximum of 400, for shooting large scenes without strobes. Go ahead and give us a call and we can sort out a solution for you for tethering the lens.

    Really nice video, thanks for that. During the video you are talking about pushing the magnet in for the inon strobes. As far as I know the olympus tg5 has a pre flash on all modes. Also if I look at the compatibility chart for inon strobes it states that the magnet should stay out on all mode in the olympus tg5. Can you maybe confirm this.

    Hi guys!!! I have a question I'm hoping you can answer. I am using a TG-5 with 2 Inon D200 strobes connected via fibre optic cable. Does the manual flash setting on the camera (1/64, 1/2 or full) have any effect on the power output of the strobe/strobes? Thank You!!

  • @backscatteruw

    @backscatteruw

    2 жыл бұрын

    If shooting the strobes in manual power mode then the camera flash will have no effect on the strobe power. They are controlled separately and independently with the camera's flash only serving as a source to trigger the strobe. If shooting the strobes in TTL mode then the camera flash must be set to Fill-In because the brightness of the flash (automatically determined by the camera) is what the strobe needs to decide how bright to fire it's own flash.

    Thats is one hell of an overkill rig for a TG5. Dont get me wrong, I love my TG5, but if we start sticking wide angle lens, dive housing, strobes and trays onto them you really should consider a DSLR set up

    Surely there is a considerable price increase when looking at DSLR housings and dome ports? I have the TG5 and bought the miekon dive case with dome port and some cheap chinese lamps. It was pretty good but obviously not as good as a DSLR. However my rig cost £600 all in, while a DSLR rig probably costs something like £2000 or more?

    @@John1986ATR I can appreciate that the cost of a DSLR rig is higher but I am not discussing your cheap case and lights. My point is about sticking a £400 camera the expensive kit in this video is a bit overkill.

    @@Pilot-ud3yj Agree, it seems a bit too much "buy all this stuff". When I got into underwater photography a year ago I didn't want to spend too much, the miekon kit seemed cost effective. Hopefully i can learn with it and upgrade later.

    @@John1986ATR I just recently purchased TG5/PT058 housing/Aluminum tray w/ handles/ Two 8" & 5" arms and clamps/ a used Sea & Sea ys-01 strobe. Will be adding a video light(s) and another strobe in the future as well as the air lens from backscatter. will it be overkill? maybe at first, but once I familiarize myself with the gear I can remove the point and shoot and upgrade the camera/housing and still use the lights/strobes and tray.

    I don’t seem to get the same shutter speed as you do in the video when I adjust the exposure compensation to -1. My shutter speed just remains at 30. Is there any reason for this? I’ve followed all the settings according to the video but can’t seem to get a higher shutter speed.

    I thought that the TG5 don't have a real aperture, but uses neutral density filters to simulate higher values. That's why I always use F2. You tell that F8 give a better depth of field. I never checked it. But how you can have a better dof with ND filters?

  • @backscatteruw

    @backscatteruw

    5 жыл бұрын

    The ND filters are only for certain apertures above F8. We have noticed an improvement when it comes to depth of field shooting underwater between F8 and wider apertures.

  • @userb3nje909
    @userb3nje9094 жыл бұрын

    A few warnings about this camera. There is no way to adjust the shutter speed manually. Setting the iso to 100 @ f8 has a shutter speed of 30. Very slow. This is very problematic for wide angle photography, as fish will appear blurry. Suggestions of changing to "sport" mode do not work with strobes as there is no way to force the flash. I found more success in shooting wide angle with video lights. So be warned. Its Macro capabilities are amazing. But it is severely lacking for wide angle photography. It's been an expensive learning curve lol
