I bought this camera so I could still go out shooting when the weather is bad. I'm really impressed how well this camera does at taking macro photos. This doesn't get the quality of a DSLR with a macro lens. However it makes up for it by making it easier to get the camera into the right position.

thanks for this informative video. I am considering buying the TG6 camera, only because of the excellent reviews for its Macro mode. I will only be using the Macro mode for up close photos of coins, many of which are extremely reflective. I have used ring light attachments in the past and they did a great job of lighting around the outside of a coin but left the majority of the coin in the dark. Do you think the same will happen with the LG1 attachment. And do you think the amount of light will wash out the picture?

  • @Shutterbug101

It will absolutely not wash out the image. The sample I showed of the close up of the leaf with the ring light attachment, I was literally on top of the leaf and it still shows an amazing amount of detail.

I did show the results in typical indoor low lighting in this video, since that will be the most common low lighting situation my viewers will come across. However, I can say out of any shockproof/waterproof camera, this camera performs the best in low light conditions. I would definently invest in the ring light attachment to help add more light when caving but this would definently be the best investment. Hope this helps!

I recently bought this camera just for caving and it is perfect. It was dragged through mud, bashed on rocks, submerged in water, survived getting pummeled by a water fall climbing out of a pit. I would suggest getting the lens barrier so you don't have a lens cap that can be lost but you can still protect the main lens. The light diffuser and light ring attachments aren't water proof. I use the camera as is with the lens barrier and I have a high end caving headlamp I use to light my way and my pictures. All photos here were taken with the TG-6 in RAW format and I processed them through Adobe Lightroom: imgur.com/a/TW4qnMT

The TG-6 does not have the capability to take lenses unfortunately. However, I have helped customers who have purchased the TG-6 and they have adapted it through DIY directly to a telescope. Otherwise, this camera has few manual settings to do, for example, wide angle milky way shots. While you typically want to do this with an interchangeable lens camera, I would say the best camera to achieve that photography in a point and shoot is the Panasonic LX100.

Very nice illustration and explanation of these! I have a TG-5 and I wish I had known about the telephoto lens before I bought it. I'm thinking the fisheye lens wouldn't have the same issue? I have been wondering about the led ring vs the diffuser for very close macro shots? Would the diffuser blow out a macro shot? I use this as a second camera for macro when hiking, or if the weather is bad. I've been very happy with it. Again, nice that you made this video, thanks!

Hello Berry! I imagine the fisheye would not have the same issue as the telephoto as it is just super wide. As for the diffuser vs. the light ring for macro, you will want to go with the ring light all the way. The diffuser is going to be to soften the flash in a dim situation like indoors or for portraits. I am glad you enjoyed my video! I have links for the ring light and diffuser below as well. The LG-1 (led adapter ring) is NOT water resistant, the FD-1 (flash diffuser) is. If you put the LG-1 ring in sea water, you might notice it gets a bit brown-ish and might become less bright.
