Well Tony my boy, I was "bought out" (of my lucrative factory job), in 2008 . So I basically retired at like 45 years of age, at which point I began my second career of drawing comic books professionally. So now I sit around all day looking at "pop culture" and deciding on which cool stuff from the past that I'm going to reproduce ( at a much larger size, natch). So these cool blasts from my past help immeasurably , man !! Thank-you. ..JRS

Tony Boy ,I'm with you 100 per cent. I'm now north of 60 years old and had older brothers. Back in the 1960s we ALL collected comic-books. I still have the books with the centerfold that shows the new line-ups . Man ,Saturday mornings were fabulous. Although we always fought over who wanted Lancelot Link, and who wanted Space Ghost or maybe Johnny Quest !! Love looking back my boy ,keep it up......JRS

You know that USA Network in the 80's would play these cartoons at 6pm. USA did this after independent stations would play three hours of afternoon cartoons and PBS would play Sesame Street at 5 pm.

I too, had to attend catechism classes Saturdays for 4 years... I’m still PI-ED I missed a lot of these great cartoons! My younger sister & brother stayed home , able to watch Saturday morning cartoons while I, had to find a way to church, as my mom did NOT drive. Plus, Sis & Bro only had to attend TWO YEARS of catechism classes... thanx, dad 😠😡. CB

I’m almost ashamed to admit it... the autumn/year that Wacky Races debuted, my buddy & I made WackyRaces “ flip books” on our catechism book page edges. First page was front of the Double “O”, 2nd page was more of the front of the car, followed by, lets say, the ArmySurplusSpecial#6, and so forth. I’m sorry, but I got nothing outa these “ forced upon me” Saturday early morning classes! Having to rise early 5 days a week, and walk over a mile to school, snow-rain or shine was plenty for me. Plus, Mom had to arrange rides for me from neighboring church members for Saturday mornings, who also had a ( poor soul) kid attending Saturday ( EARLY) a.m. classes. I had to hop our 5 foot chain link fence and walk across a yard, to be picked up on a nearby street, as the mom of a boy a little older than me, would NOT drive down our street. Again, snow, rain or shine. This boy got into real trouble one Saturday morning, as he held a pencil, point up, on a chair that was vacated by another of his classmates bathroom break. He was to pull the pencil back, but his class mate sat down too fast. I had to wait there, that Saturday morning a long time, as my ride ( mom & son ), along with the hurt, crying victim and HIS mom had a meeting with the pastor. The ride home, the mom was furious, and the boy looked back at me, hoping I didn’t have to leave the car at my drop off point... I’m sorry Lord, I’m a true Christian NOW, but these “ forced” classes did NOTHING for me, back in the day. My feet knees legs & hips are totally Worn Out NOW, I’m almost 68 years old. My strict dad passed @ 95 years old 01/07/22. The book “ Toxic Parents” by dr. Susan Forwards helps, but a chapter in her book tells of deceased parents STILL controlling YOU, from beyond their earthly resting place.😬 CB

You must not be the only one who thought Frankenstein Jr. was cut short by The Impossibles. I just remembered around 1977 "Space Ghost" reruns were put on Saturday morning to fill the time slot of a cancelled cartoon. Instead of "Dino Boy" in between, I saw them use Frankenstein Jr. without the Impossibles. I think that hints that Frankey was more popular than the Beatles spoofers.

Both The Herculoids and Space Ghost had been rebooted (in the 80s, I think). The original are better. Wonder why HB choose those two for the reboot? Unless they were the ones that took up the whole 30 minutes with 3 episodes. (Edited: I just remembered: Space Ghost shared time with Dino Boy. A bumper even shown his ship saving Dino Boy and Ugh from Pterodactyls) Interesting to note that in the original The Herculoids Doro called his parents by their names. It was in the reboot that he used 'mother' and 'father'. To be fair, I didn't think much of it. It was established that it was on an alien planet. I assumed the customs of the family to use given names. Note they were the only humans on the planet. And there were no other species of The Herculoids. My theory was they had been captured elsewhere (for a alien zoo, perhaps) and taken refuge on that planet. That's why they were so fierce to defend it from invaders. I liked The Impossibles. And one usually get a song number from the group as bonus. (Pity HB didn't think.of putting out actual records of their songs) They were in the same universe as Frankenstein Jr since in the bumper one sees the robot saving the team from falling from a broken bridge. The Mighty Heroes was silly but fun. The theme, as you said, was they usually get captured/defeated (usually by attacking separately) by commercials break. But then, by working together, they defeat the villain. That Action For Children Television caused one year of Saturday morning cartoons not to have any action/superhero shows. The only exception was Filmation The Young Centurions. (Wonder how it got away with that) To be fair, there were still some good show. Another Filmation series (live action) was Tor Of 2000 BC about a cave man's family living and surviving in the Stone Age. I rather liked it. But was still glad they went back to action cartoons the following year.
