When you are a rich public figure, you try to keep your children grounded, and the home life won't do that. So they rely on boarding schools. It is also heartbreaking to be so strict on your children when you have the means to spoil them so you outsource the discipline. It is a tricky situation and you can overdo it or underdo it. These days people treat their dogs like children and their children like friends. It is hard to say what is best. Somewhere in the balance.

Great man,inspiring to anyone who wants to make it big,be kind but ruthless in the business sence,never forgot where you came from.and give alittle back they'll remember you for that
Great man!
I thought I knew what Jack Thompson was like , this interview changed that , down to earth ,is my opinion now. Does anyone else remember him on the 1970's tv advertisement for Clayton's , non alcoholic drink?. It was shown in NZ , probably in Australia as well ?
Awesome Saturday morning thanks 🙏 Laurie.

Wow, Parker was so so clever and interesting.
he did leave a monument - the Packer Whacker - he provided the funding for equipping all NSW ambulances with a portable defibrillator
kerry was a pure genius. classy, funny and all round good guy. very well spoken with a great witty sense of humour about him. A true genius that the government hated because he beat them at their own manipulative game. RIP A TRUE LEGEND.

Kerry Packer's business sense was exceptional Instinctive and pragmatic, his business success in his own right is due to his own inherent talent rather than his father's legacy. He was an extraordinary Australian.

For a guy who was supposed to be dislexic and no formal educational qualifications he's very personable and expresses himself rather well.
Jack was magnificent.
I saw Jack Thompson a few years back in a pie restaurant in the blue mountains, he looked like a lonely old man eating on his own ….
KP wow!!!
Clever clever man
The best of a mans potential is belted into him, literally. Today, bereft of any corporal punishment in schools or the family home, behold its result. Kerry was a tough yet generous man of incredible resolve and intelligence.
As a poodle owner I’m livid. Poodles are the least obliging dog at times whilst being the bravest. Prof, come and meet my toy poodle. 😊
Packer got the big things right
A wonderful 🇦🇺 family, with generations of success. I would like to assist James personally with issues of criminal charges etc and the demise of the Packer empire.Its not the financial demise it's the personal issues. Australian rules football needs what Kerry did for cricket. It's not going to happen. Mrs Ros Packer, Scone, hang in there. These must be tough times. James, get away from prescription drugs. They WILL kill you. ☘️
Suberb - back when it was a great, somewhat innocent country finding it's way in the world... what went wrong?
Only if Kerry could see what he’s done today

A fundamentally decent man
Could a show like this interviewing a man like that happen today? Clearly no. Not on the abc. The media in this country can’t abide anyone whose views contrast with theirs or who is more successful than them. Identity politics and jealousy is killing this once great nation. KP was a brilliant man who, while flawed, created so much wealth not only for himself but for 1000s of people.

What sort of parent would send their child to boarding school?
@KayAteChef
Жыл бұрын
When you are a rich public figure, you try to keep your children grounded, and the home life won't do that. So they rely on boarding schools. It is also heartbreaking to be so strict on your children when you have the means to spoil them so you outsource the discipline. It is a tricky situation and you can overdo it or underdo it. These days people treat their dogs like children and their children like friends. It is hard to say what is best. Somewhere in the balance.
@chapmansbg

@@KayAteChef Don't have a dog, would not treat it like a child if I did. My children are well disciplined young people and they we are also very close. This all came from years of personal sacrifice. I personally think that no matter how much money you have you should not outsource the looking after and disciplining of your children. Thanks for your reply, take care!
Only thing I liked about him was World Series Cricket.
People say Logan Roy in 'Succession' is based on Rupert Murdoch but I wonder if Brian Cox drew at least partly on Kerry Packer - a force of nature, but brutal. His father Sir Frank was even worse. And now his son James is looking very much like Kendall Roy. One person who knew Kerry said he'd never known a lonelier man.
