Kerry Packer tells it like it is - not taking shit from the regulators !!

Highlights of Kerry Packer's 1991 House of Reps Select Committee on Print Media Appearance. He shows that he is not only opposed to government intevention that disadvantages him. It also includes perhaps the most famous Australian anti-government quote, where Packers says that anyone who pays more tax than they can get away with needs their head examined.

@@JD-jg6ov The entire economy is dependent on 'growth', which means western countries have to invite unprecedented immigration just so the economy grows by 0.1%, because the negatives don't kick in for a few years, which is another government's problem to deal with, and of course the future governments solution will be more immigration to stimulate 'growth'. Meanwhile, they just ignore every immediate negative effect because 'diversity is a strength'. Western governments have long been playing pass the parcel with their economies since WW2, hoping the music doesn't stop on their watch or they'll be first against a wall. Well now the music is slowing down, and when it stops, all bets are off.

Why pay your bit to fund medicare when you could feasibly run your very own personal hospital. It's always the same. Privatise the profits but make the losses public when shit goes south. Is corruption and incompetence in government real? Sure. But don't kid yourself, the insatiable greed of billionaires and corporations is just as real and is the bigger looming problem.

As an English man, the only things I knew about Kerry Packer were that he was an Australian billionaire, and that he was an avid gambler, and when bored with a boasting American on the same poker table he was sat at one time, asked the American how much he was worth. When the American replied that he was worth $50m, Packer told him he would flip a coin with him for his entire fortune. That story may be BS, but this is the first time I've ever bothered to witness the man himself, and I'm impressed. It's also a shame to see that Australian politicians are just as scummy as English politicians.

At 7:05 ... the guy over KP's shoulder. A very BOOM moment. Met him once in a restaurant in Sydney. Talked to him at the bar , waiting for my date to turn up. He sent a bottle of champagne over and gave me the thumbs up. Top lad.

Well, Kerry Packer didn’t need to avail himself of any public services - like public hospitals, schools, welfare and so on - and didn’t trouble himself thinking about their value when trying to minimize his taxes. Idiots always seem to like populist billionaires for some reason, even as they get rich and keep it at those idiots’ expense.
