Glad that you used the 0w 20. We bought a Soul in May 2023 and love it. (Great gas mileage). I bought a Kia Sedona in 2008 new. It has been great. The longest it has went between oil changes is 4000 miles. (More city driving). My warning to you is that you had better keep all receipts, labels off of filters, pictures of odometer reading with time/date stamp and keep the number of a good attorney handy. Car manufacturers these days do not have an issue denying a warranty claim and kia is no different. The chief reason of engine warranty denials across all manufacturers is improper maintenance. As an aside, some oil manufacturers will repair damages if you have used their oil and you register with them. I believe that your mom's car is a multi port fuel injection engine. If it is a Direct gasoline injection engine, you had better turn her service interval back to 3000 max and tell her to check her oil level a couple times a week. Oil dilution from fuel is a big problem with these engines. By the way, we have the same "Club" steering wheel lock that she does. Good idea

We would watch it. That’s great that you were able to change your moms oil on her car especially since the cost of an oil change has increased considerably.

Thank you! Great encouragement for her! And no joke... I couldn't believe it. It's one thing to have a tough time finding a good shop to fit our motorhome, but $100+ for this little car's oil. Wow!

That's awesome! Oil changes are so much easier to do than they might seem before you've done it yourself. Just three basic things. I would only suggest some disposable cardboard because the first time will probably make a good mess. Trial and error!

Hey nice video! Looking to do an oil change on my Kia soul too. A few questions if you don't mind: Did you say it was a 17mm oil wrench size? What oil filter wrench size did you end up using? Where can I find a replacement oil filter? The owner manual didn't specify. Thank you!!

This is anywhere along the WA hwy 99 corridor between Everett and Tacoma. There are a few shops that will effect a stop, but retail shops like hers, including Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc in this area will not. Law enforcement is extremely busy as it is, retail theft is just low on the totem pole out here and often they don't respond to calls at all because the prosecutors won't prosecute. These people know this fact and it has become insanely rare to have anyone caught. We've seen that Walmart has pulled out of Portland for this behavior and the lack of accountability and recourse, but people have no clue how bad it is out here!

They changed over on Souls and Seltos recently but not sure which years. Don't quote me but I think the change over happened for 2022 models. Seltos had a TSB briefly because the 5w caps were being installed on cars that were supposed to get 0w.

👍I have always changed my own oil for the most part I have had bad experiences when buying another car the plug and filter are really tight that I have had to use a screwdriver and punch it through the oil filter to unscrew it because filter wrench didn’t work so now I will get both plug and filter lose before draining any oil that way if for some reason can’t get them lose I am not stuck there. Great job helping your mom save money 👍

Great idea! Yeah, I tried every tool they had there and thankfully it was a more plier-style filter wrench that really did the trick. Live and learn though, that would have been a bad day if we couldn't have removed this dang filter! And thank you. 😊

Isn't that the awfullest most discouraging DIY feeling that you can't get an oil filter off that some Neanderthal torqued to make a part of the case? I went through that earlier this year with the E450 as prior oil change was done at service center in a pre-trip inspection and service (I usually do my own oil service though). I actually ruined the cup wrench like the 3 that you displayed. It was aluminum and the effort rounded the 1/2" drive's 4 corners ratchet opening. Part of my tool set for years as the 911 uses the same canister size. I was under time constraint to get the MH through emissions testing that afternoon so I refilled with new oil and went. Side note: catalytic converter is removed between uses and in storage so it won't be stolen again. I installed it first that Saturday and next turned my attention to the oil service while the MH was elevated. Re-did the entire oil service a couple weeks later after acquiring a no-nonsense filter removal tool (also 1/2" drive) and another batch of fresh oil. Used the HF hd breaker bar that can remove tire lugs as I suggested you procure mainly for emergency tire removal but could easily loosen the front anti-sway bar's nuts to TEMPORARILY take its resistance out of play. Please verify, if you haven't already, with Liquid Springs that Balea can be driven without the bar. Short, no serious turns, speed, etc over known thunk producing course may be okay. I have to assume engineers are expecting that it will be there and the LS componentry is to work with and relies on it. I'd hate to hear Balea swayed bit too much and the over-strained the internals of the LS equipment and the seals & valves were compromised and Balea is in extended dry-dock for expensive LS repairs.

Oh man, what a pain!! It even broke the cup wrench... Wild! Removable cat sounds like a pain to put in and out, but also... you'll never have it stolen!! And yep, I had asked if they had suggestions before when I called them and they suggested the temporary sway bar removal, so I expect that it's okay.🤞

Kia oil changer here, very good job on your first oil change! 5,000 miles like you did or less always on every newer car. DO NOT DO that 7,500-8,000 mile interval CRAP! That is only to make the car's carbon footprint rating better for corporate purposes and for maintenance plans to be cheaper. 4.5 quarts is the good amount to use on this 2.0 liter and it's going to make transferring the left over amount toward the next oil change very easy. The safe range bar you see on every dip stick represents 1 full quart of oil so you'll know exactly how much more to add or remove, level will rise little more than a quarter after it settles and heats up. I am a big fan of the 3 claw oil filter remover, makes removal a breeze even with over tightened filters and works with all can filter sizes. Just make sure you get one that has good teeth on it. I bought a very smooth one once that was complete crap. The drain plug may feel tighter because it is painted on black with the oil pan. Gotta also break away that layer of paint the almost acts as a thread lock. If you see what looks to be a leaking oil pan in the future, don't worry it is likely just run off from removing the oil filter. But also check the oil pressure sensor right above the oil filter housing because they are notorious for springing significant leaks at higher mileage but are easy to replace.

8000 mile intervals are conservative for synthetic oil. You're living in the past. Been doing 10-15k synthetic intervals on a 2010 Highlander V6 since 2010. It has 145K on it now, clean as a whistle under the oil cap and doesn't burn or leak anything. Go 8K with synthetic, heck, go 12k on synthetic after the warranty is up. You'll be fine either way.

@@fiehlsport That is a horrible idea with a KIA, their engines can't handle that. TBH I think you are full of it if you are waiting 10-15k in between oil changes and claim your engine is clean as a whistle. Can you see your cam lobes in the oil fill hole? How is your engine not leaking? All the older 2gr-fe motors leak from the timing cover.
