Parents call for more crossing guards, police presence following Port Orange student's death

Parents and residents near Sugar Mill Elementary school in Port Orange said they want to see additional crossing guards and police presence around the school after a fourth-grade student was hit while riding her bike to school.

    was she wearing a helmet? was she following aall the rules? why would you let a 9 year old go alone to school..

    I've seen 6 and 7 year olds go to school alone. Some parents just don't care.

    She was in a crosswalk next to a stop sign with a 5mph speed limit. How can you blame her or her parents when it's clearly a reckless driver's fault.

    HEARTLESS, people that talk like that care more for the speeder like themselves than they do for the victim that PASSED AWAY!!!!!!! And sadly are not able to testify that it was obvious speeding that took her life!!!

    Parents can’t drive. I witness chaos at all of the schools and its parents in a big hurry, parents not following rules of the road.
