You can always hear em before you see em, there's a population on Haslam Park and I noticed a few fly overhead in Fulwood. Preston must be a nice place to stay, they've wings n could go anywhere 😁👍

There's a large breeding population in Manchester been there a while ,, also St Ann's had them along time ago ,, started seeing them around bury n Bolton last 5 years regularly and now even darwen, rossendale ect , breed in old woodpecker holes alot , can become a real menace if they over populate the area .

That is exactly where they were situated, flying around the holes in the bark. Thanks very much for the information and this is the first year I have seen them in Preston so hopefully we will see them fitting in well and not too overpopulated

I saw them near the university buildings in the centre two weeks ago. Were they pets and flew away from someone's house, do you think?

They do travel across the channel to London and there are loads down in the capital city. Perhaps a move up north on the warm wind this mild summer?
