absolutely. Her acting job was really difficult. Captivating the viewer entirely, having nothing to work with except the touches and acting very very emotional WHILE also singing the song. I would be glad if half of Hollywood A-list-actors could act this well. Wondering what she does now. I really hope she has a wonderful career cause she definitly got the skills.

The cutting of the hair has been a occurring symbol in many works of literature. I can, off the top of my head, recall the Legend of Samson, who was rendered powerless when his seven locks of hair were cut off. It is my opinion that the same symbolism was used here. Within the theme of violence, physical and psychological abuse, they have chosen to use this exact symbol and not any overt one because it's an act so meaningless to some but devastating to others (when you think about it in a certain way). To me, it represents the loss of power and control over your own life, your will to fight and, dare I say it, to live. It's difficult to watch but it expresses these emotions so vividly that you cannot turn away.

I feel like it could also represent shame and humiliation - Which could be linked to the effects of going through that abuse. Especially considering the fact that it's not neatly cut down, it's just sort of carelessly chopped off. I don't know, just an idea.

It's acutally an Hommage to the french movie "Martyrs", the haircut scene is identically to the movie and it even says it on the german wikipedia page of Martyrs. :)

The cutting of the hair symbolizes the abusive behaviors from toxic people in your life, it may be a mother a father, a brother, a husband... and those abuses always comes in waves. They never try to destroy you once and for all, they tear you piece by piece and steal your self esteem identity and independency. 😢

I cannot think of a better visual to describe what "faith" does to people. Truly amazing work.

I've just discovered this song and I can't stop playing it. It's just so powerful, especially the bridge "Cannot sleep through darkened skies, cannot sleep until it's over". The video left me feeling shocked and uncomfortble the first few times I saw it. Far better than some performance video as it provokes a genuine emotional response from many of it's viewers.

To me the cutting of the hair is about losing her freedom, part of herself and identity. If the song is about abducted children hidden away it's a very deep video indeed.

It is a valid interpretation. However, I think it is very simple: it is about time. Hair are getting long through time, it means that the passing of time is a theme here, as it is often the case with Paradise Lost.

This is probably my favorite video! The actress was really into the role she was supposed to play! Incredible interpretation. Such a great song wouldn't have deserved anything less. Great, great. Simply great.

Seriously, it's one of the most emotional videos you can really find now-a-days, and all it is is the face of one person and arm of another. Awesome concept, well put together, i swear they couldn't have done this any better. It makes you wanting more of the story!

What an excellent video, I've always find it very difficult to watch because it's so powerful. It's very difficult for some people to leave aggressive relationships, and we must all do our bit to help them out.

Still remains one of the most visceral and violent music videos I've ever seen.

What are you talking about? She has "many faces" in the video. First chorus and there is total Fear. Second has Disgust. Final chorus and there is only pure Hate left. A sort of evolution of emotions as time goes by. One of the most powerful videos I've seen, thanks to the music, direction and the Actress.

For those who wonder about a 'barber shop ad': in many cases, vanquished enemy's and defeated foe's hair would be cut, for several reasons (marking slavery, abolishing freedom of the individual). Such examples are ample to find, Samson and Delilah, native americans, etc... Chlling, and amazing video.

Always felt that this video would definitely not be out of place in a capaign against gender violence. PL have some great videos, with an actual fair bit of not-shoved-in-your-face social commentary.

I've been following these guys for almost 2 decades, the amount of great songs they made are amazing. This song for example is a classic but it's not even in my top 10.btw my number 1 is true belief

I use to get signed Christmas Cards from the boys of Paradise Lost for years. I live in a Suburb of Detroit, Michigan in the United States. I can remember a find memory of going to a local Alternative/ Goth music club here and the DJ spinning Paradise Lost's version of Bronski Beats Small Town Boy.... people where dancing....I was in shock! I asked the DJ if he knew Paradise Lost? He said he just discovered them Thru Small Town Boy. Metal/ Goth/ Alt/ punk all go hand and hand in bars and clubs here. I enjoy every era of PL also from the gritty dark beginnings to to the mellow electronics of Host. Where are you from? What area of the world?

Es bastante curioso lo que decís, hace muchos años leía una entrevista a Nick en una revista que decía que ellos hacían usaban el término gótico para definir su música desde hace mucho tiempo, pero (textualmente copiado) "no entrariamos en la idea que tiene una ama de casa sobre lo que es el metal gótico". This music video is brilliant, because it can evoke the feelings of pain and awe while being so simple. It doesn't need to resort to complexity to make the viewer horrified.The woman's performance is also incredible, her reactions look real, raw and believable. This is a true masterpiece that excels at what art does best: Touch our feelings and emotions.

Due to my love of symphonic metal a friend of mine suggested i listen to Paradise Lost today. I am so very glad I did.

This song is absolutely amazing, and I also love the concept of the video.

My friend thinks that the hair is symbolic of her limbs/digits. Pretty interesting stuff. I kind of just took it as losing pieces of herself, her innocence or who she is as a person. Great f'n video!
