Paradigm has always been one of the few major home audio loudspeaker manufacturers to take their subwoofers seriously, so our interest is always piqued when they launch a new sub. Their new Defiance subwoofer series has had our attention ever since their announcement, so we paid them a visit to take a look at the entire lineup ranging from the Defiance V10 and the way up to the crafted in Canada X15 goliath to see the spectrum of performance that can be had from the two tiers of Paradigm's new subwoofer line. Watch our KZread Overview of the series to see what innovations Paradigm has made with their latest subwoofer design and stay tuned for our written review with exhaustive measurements of the V12 and X12.

    Those subs look really nice 🙂 I'm loving the x15 and it's specs. I currently run two pc2000's and they are very nice subs. I was thinking about upgrading at some point to two pc4000's or maybe getting two more pc2000's so they'd be the same output across all 4. What do you guys or anyone else reading this think?

    @ audioholics, I’m actually running a 7.1.4 home theatre system. All Paradigm. My sub I’m running right now is the Paradigm studio sub 12. But I would like to upgrade, to duals . My choices are down to the Paradigm x15, Power sound audio V1510, or Svs Pb4000 or sb16’s. Maybe I could have some insight on which one to choose ? My room is 18ft Lx 13ft Wx 8ft H. Thank you and keep up the great videos !

    Hi, Audioholics. Just a question that, perhaps, can be a little off-topic: Why almost every time we talk about subs, it seems we're implicitly talking about Home Theater applications, and never (or so) about plain stereo music systems? I understand there's a whole lot of good to extremely good Hi-Fi speakers which cannot reach the low end of freq range, being present in the recordings themselves, but impossible to listen to if the speakers simply don't deliver those frequencies at any audible level. These nice subwoofers (and others) can be an improvement to music enjoyment at home. Or so I guess. Is there any technical impediment in using subs just for normal two-channel musical audition? Thanks so much.

  • @Audioholics

    @Audioholics

    If a sub has good linearity, low distortion and low group delay, it should be equally good for music as well as home theater applications. Our written reviews typically include listening tests for both applications.

    I always wonder how important the hz rating is. Svs is like the only manufacturer that has subs reaching below 20hz under $1000, and they always say that’s the most important part of a sub. So why are there so little brands that offer sub 20hz sub under $1000?

  • @Audioholics

    @Audioholics

    5 жыл бұрын

    All speakers produce sound below 20Hz, even a tweeter! However, what matters is at what SPL and distortion levels. In order to get meaningful output below 20Hz requires a driver with a substantial motor structure, large box and powerful amp. SVS is one of the best brands out there for the price that typically gives you all 3.

    I purchased two V12’s and tweaked them via ARC, and I’ll tell you, 120w seems very low, but the quality and dynamics are MORE than enough for my Paradigm Prestige 800f towers and 600C center channel with surround and atmos running. So much so that on more than a handful of occasions the two v12’s have literally scared friends and family causing ears to cover and shrieks of joy to flow from my body lol. I’ve listened to the SVS1000 and the one V12 is for sure in the same ballpark.
