    As someone who used to do caretaker and personal assistance work for disabled and elderly people this happens way too often. And the sad thing is is a lot of social workers allow it. "Well they can't do much anyway, I don't hear them complaining." It breaks my heart.

    why is it that every fcking case now is some so-called parent killing their kid? there's clearly an epidemic of child murder going on right now. It should be an automatic sentence of capital punishment any time a parent kills their child. So sick of this sht.

    It's just that we're on the internet more and our way of consuming news has changed due to mistrust in mainstream media. I can't remember the last time I looked at any of them. If we still just watched the news, we wouldn't get 90% of this stuff- example Women committing murders; be it their children, partners or DUI's.

    It turns out my comment is tragically statistically true. From the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention: "A precipitous 27.7-percent rise in the overall child homicide rate occurred from 2019 to 2020, according to Trends in Homicide Rates for US Children Aged 0 to 17 Years, 1999 to 2020, a report published by JAMA Pediatrics in December 2022...The child homicide rate decreased by 5.6 percent annually between 2007 and 2013 but increased by 4.3 percent each year since then." *Why is no one talking about this?*

  • @meleshenko3767

    @meleshenko3767

    10 ай бұрын

    “why is no one talking about this?” Because ppl don’t want to know that it’s happening bc we have devalued our own children. We did this when we decided their lives aren’t even lives until we SAY they are. When we turned our faces away while they were slaughtered because they were small and couldn’t speak up. When our own convenience became more important than our babies. When we chose a lie over the obvious truth that in-utero babies are as alive as their mothers. Now we turn our faces away from the stats bc we don’t want to acknowledge our part - our part in throwing live babies in trash cans, leaving children in hot cars, pedophilia, sexual trafficking of children. What amazes me more than the trend - is the willful ignorance, the refusal to look at it squarely without politics and agendas. We gave up defending children along time ago, and now we are watching the snowballing consequences of our culture’s willful evil.

Seems to me like she wanted this little girl gone and that she was a burden! So it completely defeats the "woe is me" routine Rita's other daughter tried bringing into the courtroom! Even kids where it clearly has happened (ie, the cops found the kids and had to break the car window at a mall to save them) don't lose their kids. They take them for a few days and give the parent a safety, parenting class and they send they kids back to them. Look at the Ruby Frankie case and others, people report and report and report and until something extreme happens nothing is done and then it's often too late.

    It looks to me like women with vulnerable kids become very vulnerable themselves when new relationships develop with unstable men. Respite and career support systems need upgrading. Lives will be saved! Single parents with vulnerable children need compassion and support. More can be done to support others - we can all imagine how hard things are for Rita and Cristina. In a better society Cristina would have had a better life and so would Rita and we wouldn’t all be here. In my opinion, we can and should do more. It’s another avoidable tragedy.

    Totally agree. Im not defending what this lady did, it’s awful! However I can imagine looking after a special needs child is very difficult where support and carers respite is very much needed to help both individuals. At the end of the day, its a tragedy. But like you said, when it comes to carers - weather a person is looking after a child with disabilities or an elderly parent say with dementia, one can experience carergiver burnout/ fatigue. Its very common.

    I don't know what was going on with this mother and I'm certainly not excusing what she did, but I have to wonder if burnout played a role in this. Her daughter was so severely disabled that she could not do anything for herself. Imagine being a single, working mother to a newborn _for the rest of your life._ It's intolerable, but parents are guilted into thinking they are bad people if they choose to put a disabled child into a facility. If this child had been in a facility, she would still be alive.

    There are millions of us with special needs children. Burnout is real but we ask for help or we put ourselves in time out in the bathroom for a good 5 minute cry. We don't use meth and we don't murder our children. There is no excuse for the neglect and eventual murder of this child. What's even worse is that the child's mind is perfectly fine, the body just doesn't work in cp. That poor baby heard and understood everything that was happening to her and she was helpless to ask for help from anyone.
