His Own niche , indeed. When I was a teen in the 80s , My bro in law introduced me to a Nemesis #1 reprint and I was an immediate fan of the character Mills and O’Neill. (There’s Terror Tube @13:17! Excellent) Metalzoic is a hilarious romp. Marshall Law, too. Absolute stunner, earl. Thank you for sharing. Congrats receiving it

Great video Earl, Kev O'Neill remains one of my favourite comics artists of the entire medium! Once got to shake him by the drawing hand and thank him.

Thanks for sharing! Your videos are all great, but especially fun to watch when it highlights such an incredible artist like Kevin O’Neill. That “Bonjo from Beyond the Stars” story that is reproduced here was Kevin’s final comics work. Written by my all time favorite comics writer Garth Ennis, it was a revival of an old (ridiculous) character from the early 2000AD days.

Really fantastic to page through this incredible book with you. I admit to not having paid close attention to O'neill's work...but this has definitely brought him into focus for me. Wow.

A masterful artist. Very angular… no curves… Up there with Joe Colquhoun..who is our greatest imo. Check out joes art in Charlie’s War (about WW1) and his work on Johnny Red (WW2). I think you’d like it.

The colour Nemesis work in the closing pages of he book is very like his Kevin's colour work on Marshall Law, so probably similar era. The Nemesis work of both Pat & Kevin around 85,86,87 was so good. I was 13 then and loved every panel.

O`Neill`s art always gave me a feeling of being on the edge of madness. I will of course be getting the Nemesis Apex and the new hardcover Nemesis books because I hate money. Maybe one day we can get a Marshal Law Apex as well.

@@earlgrey862 It was very sad about his death, but I like to imagine books like those going from person to person in a continuous line of appreciation. One of my favorite items in my collection is a set of the original German Crumb sketchbooks that I got from a long time collector and personal friend of Crumb. He got them all signed too. While working out a deal we talked for hours about comics and art and music and became friendly. I paid good money for them but it was about more than the money and he knew I'd treasure them. After he passed his wife sent me a photo of him with Crumb that I keep in volume 1.

Good art, great presentation, I just wish I had even the smallest amount of interest towards 2000AD and the various IPs that originated in it.

Gorgeous books! Reminds how it doesnt matter how much I order books there’s always more than one can read in a life time. But I also like that it is like that. Always something new to find. Also never have to use energy to complete collection as it is not possible. I can just focus on enjoying the ride. Do you have suggestion how to collect Nemesis? Only 5 albums out in Finnish so I’d rather not go that way. 2000AD has published - at least certain stories - so many times and in different formats that I’m a bit lost where to start with Nemesis. I’m after the english version.

Rebellion published Nemesis in three trades in roughly comic book size... which I really loved until I found out about the original format & recognized how bad the shrinkage has effected O'Neill's art. Or you can go the hard road and try to collect the particular 2000AD progs with Nemesis. There are always sellers on the bay who sell whole bundles of them for a much lesser price per issue. But since Brexit I don't know if I really can recommend to order from the island anymore. Or you save some money and wait until the next O'Neill apex collection with a Nemesis-focus comes out. They can't reprint the whole story in that way obviously, but maybe you get good enough chunks of story out of it in the best format possible.

@@earlgrey862 I may need to reconsider the Finnish albums then. They’re in album format and the art looks good in them. I think they’re all b&w also. There is so much details in that art that shrinking it is a silly choice. It’s like making sure that readers won’t get the full impact of the original content. One of my favorite things to complain about😄

…aaand I just visited 2000AD site. They’ve announced 5 volume hardcover Definitive Edition of Nemesis. First volume should be out in December! Measurements they gave for this format matches closely to older Asterix albums I have which is very decent. This is good news and solves my Nemesis dilemma💪🏻

@@earlgrey862 Even more news about this. I started reading through 2000AD news archives and last month they announced that Definitive Edition will be even larger. It seems they got so much feedback from fans that demanded Oversize-books that they’ve decided to do just that🥳

Earl where’d you buy yours? At 20O0AD site? I just discovered there’s a second Apex edition volume of Mick McMahon featuring his Slaine work. Shipping’s killer, though. I’m looking to purchase a more affordable copy. Thanks!

McMahon is not a bad artist but I passed on his JD-apex & it's very unlikely that I would buy a Slaine Apex edition... even though: it could be quite spectacular... but if they would get enough material to do a similar edition with Simon Bisley's stuff I would be all over it.
