What do guys think of the packaging design so far? What would you have done differently? Let me know!

I would also add a side view mockup just to try to fit the side copy and graphics. When all is laid out then do a mockup and presentation even if its front and back only.

@@seanjamesii4315 I had actually thought about doing this, but decided it was going to make the videos too long, and the side wouldn't have been *that* interesting most likely. But it's certainly something I'll keep in mind for the future. Thanks for the suggestion!

I would have liked to know how you would place the graphics on the technical drawing, so it could go to printing and all. :)Thanks for your videos, really useful. I am a product design student so your videos are a quick way for me to get acquainted with some graphic design.

I would’ve increased the size of “8-10” in the top. I think it isn’t clear enough how many pancakes the ingredients below will make.
You are insane. Your work is crazy good AND you incorporate literal visual communications education at every step. I’m an aspiring art director in high school and you have become one of my favorite designers on KZread in like two days.

i study graphic design but somehow i've never noticed how big of an impact a font can actually have. it sounds really stupid, but when the instructions use a recognizable brand font like that it feels like the brand is "speaking" to you, it's telling you the brand is your friend and helping you out with making pancakes. similar to someone's voice, it's easily recognizable. is that just me getting way too attached to things or is this the actual reason apart from just the nice look?

Glad you liked it, Neagu! Thanks a lot for subbing
I love how you show the process of figuring out, like, visual (and informational!) hierarchies and editing away words, etc. that aren't needed. And replacing placeholder icons with real photos. Also love the creative recycling of assets from the front of the package to the back. I probably would have thrown some red on there (instead of white at the top, maybe? Or behind the ingredients).
Why is this so fun to watch? Thanks for the video even though im 2 years late!
I like the way you solve each problems step by step, it helps me a lot. Packaging is engaging but I always have problem with arranging ingredient part, especially things that have lots of ingredients. Hope that in the future you can teach me more about that. Thank you!
I just had one idea that the pancake on the 2nd step could have the uncooked side of the pancake showing. That way it gives the reader a visual of what it should look like.
i'm making pancake and waffle mix for one of my projects and these are honestly so helpful ahh
How you do the 2D object for the client and the factory that will print the product on the packaging? Can you do a video about that and what files should be delivered to the customer. Thank you, btw awesome job!
@BrandonShep

You'll usually get a PSD/AI template file that displays the precise schematics required for printing. You'll just overlay your design onto that, and send them a PDF of it in most cases.

@BrandonShep I think that would be very helpful if you do a video explaining the 2D process. For now I think that the way you do should take much more time because later you will have to do the design “again” but in 2D…
İ also got an idea about the bottom third making like a semi circle shadowing, but making it seem as if the pan was above, casting shadow downwards haha. Superb work man good job ❤️
Your so talented! Love your videos bro! 🙏
I've been loving your videos man! I recently got promoted to Graphic Designer II at my job and was hitting some art block. Your videos have been giving me ideas, even if my job is more direct mail marketing rather than product design lol. Looking forward to seeing more! Your designs are amazing.

This looks so great! I love your workflow and I’ve learned a lot from your videos. The only thing I think I would’ve changed for the back, is make the “8-10” in the top section stand out more. Maybe increase their size. I think it isn’t clear enough that the ingredients listed below will make 8-10 pancakes 12:11

Love your work, too good, detailed, and simple. (I’m subbed.)

Thanks alot for this bro, I enjoyed each video
I just discovered your channel and I really enjoy these videos. On this one, since you asked what we might do differently, when you re-ordered the images of the ingredients (mix, egg, milk), I would have re-ordered the wording in Step 1 to match the order that the pictures are in (mix, egg, milk instead of the original wording of mix, milk, egg). I also probably wouldn't have put a shadow on the surface of the milk since the surface is flat and wouldn't cast a shadow (as opposed to the mix and the egg that both have verticality to them). Those are really nit-picky things, though, and I do love your design! It's really interesting to watch your process, too.
Looks awesome!
Great job!!!
This is a nice excercise, but in real life you'd only have half of that area to put your main design on. Back of the packaging usually includes tons of text, for food it's ingredients, calorie table, alergens, manufacturer info, recycling icons and bar code, often also area where Best before date is stamped. Tons of boring stuff that needs to be included in the mockup as well. It would be nice if it was at least mentioned in this video. They're not as fun to design, but they're necessary and learning how to incorporate them in your design is an important skill as well.

Most all of those things can go on the side of the bag. Very common to see that in this industry.
It’s honesly insane how disinterested I was in reading the instructions slowly versus how quickly I was able to know exactly what I needed to do just with shortening the sentences
Actually, you are legally required to put the ingredients of the mix itself on the package along with the nutritional information. I'm going to assume that info went onto the side of the bag...Maybe it's coming in pt 3?
I really want to buy this pancake mix.
You are good!!!
Man, love your videos. Your designs and process are incredible. What’s the music tho? Don’t have any issue with it, but it sounds like a combination of Bloons Tower Defense and Bad Piggies.😂
Just fall in love with your workflow! Do you use this PSD file for final printing or transfer into a vector one again in Illustrator? Many thanks!
@BrandonShep
4 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it! I pretty much always transfer everything back into Illustrator to convert it to a PDF for printing.
I think if the bottom part separator was a straight line instead of the curvy one, it would look a lot more pleasing. Otherwise, very good work, Brandon!
220k subs? You deserve 1mil.
Love the videos! I know you posted this a while ago, and you likely would change some stuff, but here’s a couple thoughts from a normal dude who isn’t a designer: I think the fonts on the back of the package aren’t particularly legible, especially the instructions. Also, the “Mix Egg Milk” icons take too much attention compared to the instructions. A more equal presentation between the two would make more sense in my head. Anyways, I think your videos are awesome. Keep it up! Can’t wait for your next one.
How did you tweak your shadow in the end? Can you explain
Do you have a pad and pencil for drawing some of objects or you just draw by mouse
WOW!!! #BRAVO
I just woke up so now I want pancakes
I’m super curious to know as the designer, should it be my job to make sure all their text is correct? I have no problem spell checking but to what extent? I feel like some client could get offended. Thankyou so much! been watching all night 🔥👍🏾

@ZDrums that makes sense!☺️ I do appreciate your comment.
I know that I'm late but amazing work dude. I do wish that you would have kept the shadows and highlights caused by the bag itself, such as around the resealable part at the top of the bag. I know that you probably kept it flat for the client so that they could print the design on the bag but I would have been a cool touch just for the video in my opinion

make a video about a product which is a ribbon around the bottle and how you change that to the template that customers give us.
after desing in mocup , how do you fit into the dimention given given my the clint
@BrandonShep
4 жыл бұрын
A lot of it depends on the template. In this case, the design in the video just has a mask in the shape of the bag mockup. If you turned off that mask, there would be a flat image of the design that could be transferred to a given template or specific dimension. When doing that, you may need to make some slight adjustments to account for how the dimensions are laid out and to give enough room for things like bleed and safety margins.
You change the "Pour 4" pancake into a 375*F pan" to "Pour batter into a 375*F pan" As for the 4" part Add that to the makes 8-10 pancakes So its Make 8-10 4" pancakes.
wow
The DIRECTIONS' font size makes it look more significant than the brand logo. It needs some arrangements.
If you have to add milk and eggs, what's in the mix?? It's just flour!
Just one idea: The illustrations for the steps don't look great because of the relative size with those of the ingredients. You could have instead used 2D icons and ingraved them to the wood. You went overboard with the top-view thing.
Why can I clearly picture some company’s CEO screaming “HIRE HIM! HIRE HIMMM!” at an employee while pulling their own hair, and an employee sweating and furiously dialing a cord phone?

Front of package indicates 80 pancakes. The rear of package indicates 8-10 pancakes.
Why does it say that it makes 8 to 10 pancakes on the back but says 80 pancakes on the front?
i just used this recipe for my pancakes its … ok
2:53
Its funny to see that the front says 80 pancakes, and the back 8-10 pancakes lol
Hear me out.. it works but its not fully realistic in terms of application because it leaves behind compliance items like nutritional facts and company addresses and information like barcodes and other things so that information placement may have to be changed.
Always love your work, but the back is kind of unrealistic. You always need a text and a list for nutritional values, barcode, and company info, which is sometimes hard to combine with graphic elements without making them too small
The Call to Action at the end "Don't forget to subscribe" has a negative word and a bad instruction. Maybe try something more positive like "Remember to Subscribe" or "Subscribe now"

The recipe on the back makes a batch of 8-10 pancakes, you can make multiple batches with it. The problem I see is that the design looks nice but doesn't leave any room for all the things you usually find on packaging like a barcode and such.
