Hey! great reviews, I love them. I'm riding with a 700x40 cinturato M on the front and a 700x38 gravelking ss on the back. I wanted to use two cinturatos but I had to switch the rear tire because of clearance issues. They work very nicely together, you get a somewhat more responsive and speedy bike and if the terrain gets a bit loose I know that at least my front tire won't slip!

Outstanding. You have become my go-to for tire reviews, youtube or print. Please review the Michelin Power Gravel if you get a chance.

Lol - these tires in 32mm are my go to tire on the mostly road rides - i have a gravel bike and 2 wheelsets - one for moslty pavement and one for more serious gravel. When I say paved rides - I mean the rough, terrible pavement, cobble, and concrete in and around NYC ! It's an amazing tire. So perfect.

Waiting on my delivery for the these (second one) very eager to get them on! Was using the Vittoria Terreno Dry, served me well just felt a little slow for a semi slick'esk tyre!

Great review as always! I have a similar experience - moved to Gravelking SS from Schwalbe G One Allround and find them to be superior in every way. Tarmac speed on the SS is almost on road bike level. But both are rubbish on mud.

mud is just no surface for gravel bikes. For mud and snow the only wheels that don't suck are fat tires way beyond 2.20".

I'm going to try these as my next tire. I've ridden Schwalbe G one allround for thousands of miles but want to try a different tire to compare myself. These seem like they should fit nicely with my riding.

Great tires. Really love how grippy these are when cornering on tarmac. But like some of folks here, I also had a problem with seating these on my rims. These will NEVER seat on their own. I had to use a method my LBS mechanic taught me which was to rest my knee on the rim on opposite side of the unseated bead and then pull the tire towards me with both my hands. Like breaking a stick with your knee

Get a California Air Tools silent compressor. Makes easy work of it.

I remember James I ask you in other review about the pathfinder cause I was in the market for new tires. I come from the gravelking SK and bought the SS in December (the regular SS,not the plus version) 900 miles later riding in every terrain imaginable and they look like new. Rode this weekend and it wasn't until today that when I went to wash my bike notice sealent in the back of the frame. So, 900 miles, still look like can ride 900 more, just one puncture in all that time? And it was sealed and I didn't even notice? I'm sold. This is my tire. This blows the SK model big time which I just can get no more than 1,400 miles from it. And once again this SS were the regular, not the SS. Great review James, like always! 🤘👍

I recently put the 32mm version of the PR GK SS on a set of Woven 35mm carbon hoops. I too had a lot of trouble getting the tires to seat, even with a compressor. In the end I had to put latex tubes in to get them to work on these rims, looking forward to trying the tires on my Zipp 303 Fiercest wheels which seat any tire like a dream. I run the tires on my Tarmac SL7, which I take in lots of places where a high end road bike has no business going (e.g. rough gravel, single track, unpaved road shoulders, etc.), but the tires are so good I seem to be able to get away with it. I find them quick for a gravel tire, but they would be quicker if they weren't covered in those little rubber bristles from the mold (which make riding in the wet pretty miserable as the bristles flick the water everywhere). They seem pretty darn puncture resistant, even with my latex tube set up. Running a proper tubeless set up with race sealant would make these tires pretty bomb proof I would think. In all I agree, great tire, seating can be an issue so maybe consider inserts and have a shop set them up. Not good for wet riding but perfect for quick-paced dry rides on pretty much any dry surface.

I have 45mm Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M's on my 650B's and 35mm Panaracer Gravelking SS's on my Zipp 303s's. I agree with you on both these tyres, and my only regret is that I didn't go wider with the Panaracers. Like you said the longevity is very good and it seem's I need to ride quite a lot more until I'll wear them out and get a wider set...

Those bicycle rolling resistance tests you referenced is for the non plus version, they more recently did one and said they were noticeably slower but had great puncture protection.

Have you tried the Specialized Pathfinder Pro 2bliss? I love mine and they have lasted incredibly well. They roll great on the road and have handled all but the worst mud very well.

I seemed to be one of the view who has 0 luck with panaracers, I've had both these in 700x32 and the gravelking slicks in 700x35 used fo 75% road and 25% light gravel. Both tyres have worn well and roll incredibly fast, however have had continual punctures, poor sealing, and ongoing issues with constant dropping of psi. As a result go through a lot of sealant to just seal the micro punctures from regular riding. Have loved panaracer tyres in terms of performance, but seems there quality differs a lot where some pairs are bombproof, and others are like fine china. Going to try my luck with the Specialized Patherfinder Pros in a 700x38

I'm running a pair of Michelin Power Gravel at the moment, which Neil gave me for free because he couldn't mount them. Also had some issues but finally managed, and they're pretty okay actually. Especially for the $0 price tag. Swapped back to byways on 650b for the last gravel ride, because I the 700 hops needed a bearing swap, but they felt much much slower and lacked grip so much it wasn't funny.

I'd like to add that the byways also puncture like crazy! Come across to the cinturatos already....

Have just switched from the WTB Byway to the Gravelking SS (650B). Initially, I thought the WTB Byway were superior - but I had to start off using some tubes in my Gravelkings which made them superslow and sluggish. After switching back to tubeless again, I was blown away. Even on tarmac I have the feeling they roll WAY faster than the Byway. After doing about 250km on both tarmac and gravel, I have found MY perfect tire!

Hey how wide are your tires for the optimal road& gravel experience?

Great revue as usual, have you tried Maxxis Ramblers yet? I have them in 38mm and 50mm and find them really quick and quite grippy. I have a set of SKs on my mtb at the moment and quite like them and my gravel bike has a set of Terreno Mix 700 x 33 that I find grippy for their size but pretty slow. A mate gave me some Resolutes that I havent even tried yet. So far the Ramblers are my pick but the SS sounds interesting. And yes I think I have a tyre buying problem lol.

I reckon the bigger problem is only ever using the same tyre! I love discovering how different tyres are to ride. It's a lot of fun. Still haven't got around the the Maxxis Ramblers yet.Tyres keep dropping in regularly enough that I haven't had to buy a set in a while!

@David Burgess from my experience you will find that Resolutes are very much alike Ramblers, but ever so slightly faster on tarmac, yet more unpredictable in the loose or the wet. For reference i’ve run 3 pairs of EXO Ramblers (40, 40 and 45mm, tubeless) and one pair of Resolutes, which I sold off after 400km.

Have you tried reviewing the continental Raceking ? They cost half as much as this tire and measure faster than any gravel tire on bicycle rolling resistance. They are the better Continental terra speed, for less money in my opinion.

I know I’m a bit late to the game, here here goes anyway. I got myself a Cervelo aspero recently as I just realised I enjoy riding. I have them laced with Bontrager Aeolus pro 3v and Goodyear connectors for rougher gravel, but I seem to do more road right now. And now the question, I have a 2nd wheelset coming (ican aero 35 [21.5 internal] ) which I want to use as my road set up, will these SS/SS+ 32mm work well for road? And of course light gravel. Or would a traditional road tire be better

Nice review. My 43mm GK SK's are really tight to get on but w/ patience and a little lube, no issues. They were so tight that the beads were in the well and w/o a compressor I never would have gotten the beads to seat. Will give the SS a try next time. Have a set of Terra Speeds and as other reviewers have said ..'they live fast and die young'. Ride on!

Thanks for the review! If you were to do it again, would you pick the Gravelking SS+ over the standard casing SS?

hmmmm, yeah I probably would. They're great tyres and pretty expensive so I'd go the SS+ to squueze longer life out of them

This is becoming my go to all road tyre. Then I’d use the Pirelli Gravel H for all round gravel

Just put my new ss plus tyres on today they seated very well on my Bossi wheels and seem very good on the first ride

Hi, I am choosing between GravelKing SS(non+) and Cinturato Gravel H for this summer dry tire (both 40/38c). I think they both are similarly fast, but which one has better grip in dry dirt corner? Or if you have any other suggestion for fast dry tire but also grip well in the corner? Thanks!

I've been thinking of using these tires in a 38c on my 700c mountain bike which I am using in my first triathlon (minus the running). I expect most people will have road or Tri bikes since this will be on the road. I'm okay with not being the fastest. What size mm tire do you recommend for my set up?

Picture protection and longevity should be better on the SS plus

Everyone keeps talking about gravel. I'm building a touring bike. It'll be almost all pavement miles, but I need a tire that's in the 43mm range that can handle a lot of road miles. How would these suit bike touring would you think?

I love the slicks which I think are the same as these except with the center tread all over. But dont you find they wear out quite fast? As soon as that little ribbed section is gone the sealant starts leaking out. Even now on my front with some tread left I see damp spots. Great tyres, just need to buy them all the time... Though I don't have comparisons on this bike.... Oh you got to the waer... Is 900km a lot for tyres? I have put in a few thousand KM, thought they should last a lot longer.

Hey Nathan, I typically review the tyres at 800 km or more because it's enough time to get a sense of ride and longevity. Interesting to see people pop up and report on reliability issues. Mine were punctured the first time i rode them through through a patch of thorns and didn't seem to suffer. Total longevity for gravel tyres really depends on the tyres and the person. I'm usually happy with 2000 km or more 🤙

@@JustRideAdelaide Thanks for this comment. I was gonna switch to gravel tires but if I have to pay 100€ every 2k km, that is just too much for me. I ride 15ks a year and I'm not gonna spend 1% of my income on bicycle tires.

I was running 700x38 Pathfinder Pro’s before these SS+ 700x43 - would not go back. The Pathfinder’s are a nice tire but not as speedy as these!

@@JustRideAdelaide Fair chop, I found the 700x38 measure in at 43mm wide on my 24mm internal width rims though. After I saw your review on the Pirelli Gravel H, I tried them out - but went back to the Terrano Dry for the better comfort, similar rolling speed and stupid amount of grip relative to how slick the tread pattern looks

Any idea if this tyre works on a polygon heist 2017 hybrid bike ?

Rolling resistance check ss and ss+ and the second gravel tire loose about 6W comparing to first one. I’m wondering is that a mistake? Is that even possible that extra puncture protection make such a difference? I know it’s old review but maybe someone can tell :)

would these be ok for loaded touring on railtrail and AtV trail?

How about the Continental Terra Trail ?

I cycle my gravel bike mostly on pavement and some gravel. Is this okay for pavement? Planning to get 32c to 35c.

So what's your favourite wet weather tyre

I just got the pirelli cinturato gravel h in 700x40...they're slow as fuck against the conti cross king cx. I need way more power to stay with my GF. With the terra speed it was the other way around.

I suspect that there might be batches issues with these. After i’ve watched them get such glowing reviews on here i’ve talked up to 6 friends into using them to mixed results. Specifically, one pair is inexplicably slow! Like we swapped bikes and it left me wondering wtf was wrong.

Wonder how the wtb byway compares to this tire. These are the two I'm looking at next.

Yo Jason, I haven't tested the Byways but my main ride buddy had a set last year and really didn't like them. They're fast but very fragile. He ended up with about 6 plugs in one of the tyres before tossing them away! Now he lives the good life and inherits review tyres once I'm done with them and rides them until they're properly cooked. He's an exceptional bike handler and is far better at finding the grip limits than I am so I trust his opinion. So if he doesn't like the Byways then that's good enough for me!

I rode the WTB Byway for about 4500km with absolutely ZERO issues. I loved them and was considering purchasing a new set to replace them, until I found the Gravelking SS (48mm). The SS are - for me - far superior than the Byways so far. They roll faster than expected on tarmac (faster than the Byway that is), and outperform the Byways on gravel easily. I would not go back to the Byways anymore, despite my absolutely positive experiences with it (and I threw everything at it!).

Don't loose faith if you have trouble getting the tires to seat, they're worth it but seating is tricky

Hi, are these tires omi or uni directional?

Tried the Gravelking SS but they won't seat on my rims at all. Then went on to the Conti Terra Speed instead and loving them.

Run them with tubes for 1-2 rides, then try again. This will stretch them a bit to the fit of the rims

Where I ride I feel like the SS doesn't give me enough traction on the ups and downs and turns. But the SKs don't give me the same trouble. 🤷‍♂️

Great tires but they are harder to seat than most tubeless tires.

Which tires are the most puncture proof? Please help 😫🙂

Hey Greg, you just throw a tube into them like any other tyre you've used before. You might need to buy some bigger tubes though that can inflate to fill these larger tyres.

They're fine. Decent contact patch and a good compound. I find it's the more knobbly tyres that can get a bit squirrelly on wet tarmac

I don't care what anyone says, these will be puncture magnets, I've read loads of customer reviews and Macy of them have said the puncture resistance is non existant

Worst tyres I’ve used with tubes. Puncture far too easily. Lost all confidence in them and changed them after a few weeks.

I've never had a puncher on my GK slicks going tubeless. Well, never a puncher that hasn't sealed itself.

@@JustRideAdelaide they were the SS+ 650x48 tlc. The ‘+’ has also got added puncture resistance! I also had to add a boot/patch on the inside of one of the tyres. I’ve still got them but they are just gathering dust. It wasn’t an issue with the wheel rim/tape as I had no issues with the replacement tyres.
