I love the way Cpatain Vidal starts an epic monologue and she just cuts him off. He imagines himself as some sort of heroic military leader, but he's nothing but a bully and a thug, and when he's defeated they rob him of the dignity he has robbed from so many others. He is living in his own farytale.

Shot in the face, his kid will never know he existed and you think he has some redeeming quality. He was a coward right to the end. The nuance is lost on you. This is one of the most satisfying antagonist death scenes ever filmed.
It’s so unfair, the hardships and horrors Ofelia endured - in her world and down under. Yet she was still so, so kind. Phenomenal film, as heartbreaking as it is.
It’s a very bittersweet ending. While she gets to take her rightful place in the court, in the regular world it ends with a mother grieving her daughters murder.

"Pan's Labyrinth"(2006) is an excellent historical period fantasy drama movie!
I like how Vidal briefly hesitates after saying „Tell my son…“ for the first time, like he’s catching himself, making up his mind. I think, at this point, he finally realized he’s going to die, that there is nothing he can do about it, except choosing to die on his own terms. And his Killers were having none of it.

This was so much more merciful than this monster deserved. They barely had time to even comprehend what they had been told.
No film makes me cry as this one does.
Del Toro truly knows _how_ to make beautiful movies. And whether or ot you believe the magic was real, at least there was confort at the fact Ophelia was at least happy. She both died and lived happy.
The monster known as Captain Vidal is terminated.

I have no shame admitting that this ending makes me cry. And if I don’t cry, I at least have to hold it back. Such a depressing ending.
Captain Vidal perfectly embodies the evil side, scares his human monstrosity much more than the rest of the beings that populate history, Vidal does not hesitate to use cruel procedures to carry out brutal torture to achieve his goal (such as the sequence in the disfiguring a hare hunter with a bottle). His arrogance and military pride end up shaping this character that it is not easy to get rid of after finishing watching the film, the film by Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro has managed to portray as few times that essence mixture of fear and harshness that the character instills.
