Pampero Preview: APE Games Have Really Pamp-ered Us With This One

Pampero is a hand-management, card-driven action-selection game for 1-4 players. Every player has a starting set of eight cards to be played on their own tableau, which contains two rows of spaces to activate actions on the different sectors of the board. Be careful though, as you can only take back one card per round for "free", so intricate planning of your action order and forward planning of your strategy are key to winning! This is a game we really, really enjoyed and are very excited to get our hands on the final product.

So excited to hear your take on this game. I'm headed to Essen in a few days and they have a demo of this there and I'm really hoping to get a chance to try it out. I know now that if you two like it, I'll like it. Three questions for you: 1. When you're sent a game like this, what do you do with it afterwards? Do you get to keep it or do they ask you to send it back? 2. What are your favourite Lacerda games? Mine are The Gallerist and then On Mars 3. Are you headed to Essen?

It depends - some we can keep, some we need to send on. This one I believe we need to send on to another reviewer, but I also think it's getting quite close to the KS so not sure anymore. Our favourites are Kanban EV (Tallie) and On Mars (Farrell). Haven't got a chance to play the gallerist yet, but we hope to at some point play all his games. Sadly we won't be at Essen, we haven't made it to any type of convention yet. Good thing we aren't going anyway as our new Board game table is being delivered!

Thanks for the review, looking forward to seeing more on KS for this game. As far as the transformers go, I would be guessing that they are going to be used in one of the random victory cards. Inserting the transformers into the player board seems like something you could chose not to do, and just allow the contracts to indicate the spaces you have taken. It also seems that you could put them aside and start playing the game and just add the towers and transformers in between your turns. Looking at the amount of setup required it would be helpful to have a nice box insert with a tray for each player. Your comments as to the things you liked reminds me of what I like about Brass, in that every time I play Brass I just want to play it again to try something else.

Thanks for watching! Yes you could totally choose not to use the transformers if you don’t want to as far as we can see since it adds to the setup time!

Totally! The small table didn't help! I do wonder if the board will be resized - a common complaint I've seen is that there is a lot of empty space and people would prefer it to be sized down a bit if the design will stay as it is.

@@BoardOfItReviews yeah I was totally interested in this game until I realised how much table space it would consume. Not to mention the box is competing with standard eagle gryphon game boxes as well. I sincerely hope they are able to shrink down that game board but otherwise it looks like a fantastic game.
