I know there is a lot of hate for this comic and series of events in the EU but I honestly love the amount of detail they put into continuing the Empire's dark resurgence and explaining Palpatine is the ultimate Sith Lord

Director Kid To be fair, the Chosen One prophecy hadn't been established when Dark Empire was written, and wouldn't be for nearly a decade, so there's not much the authors could've done to prevent this problem.

Director Kid I never got that reason. "It ruins Anakin's sacrifice." Without Anakin sacrificing himself, Palpatine would have never died in the first place. Had Palpatine survived, the Battle of Endor could have been lost to the Rebels since the Emperor was to distracted by trying to turn Luke to the Dark Side. If he could not stop the destruction of the Death Star 2, he could have easily escaped the station like Luke did. Palpatine was also using Battle Meditation. His death caused the Imperial forces to lose the will to fight per the consequences of losing the meditation effects. This is what caused the Imperial fleet to flee to the Core Worlds. Without this shock, it has been stated a few times that the battle could have still been won by the remaining Imperial forces. Also, with Palpatine's death, the Empire falls into panic and later begins tearing itself apart. Had the Empire never stood leaderless and torn itself apart, the Rebels would have never been able to take Coruscant and form the New Republic. The New Republic would never have been able to fight a united Empire. But with all of the remaining leaders fighting among themselves, the New Republic was able to pick them off one by one. All of this was possible thanks to Anakin's sacrifice.

Director Kid So? Sith have come back from the dead before. I don't see why Palps coming back is suddenly 'too crazy' to believe. Well, at least in Legends they came back. Battle Meditation is Legends only. At least so far.

Yeah not everyone comes back to life...saying that death is now meaningless is not a very strong argument...chewie didn't...most sith Lords didn't...none of the heroes like Mara Jade did...

Interesting fact I read in Star Wars Insider was that it was the idea of George Lucas that Palpatine be brought back. Originally they were going to resurrect Darth Vader as the villain, but thank God George Lucas stepped in, said no, and told the writers to do Palpatine instead. It kind of makes sense since Palpatine did express a deire to cheat death in Epsode 3.

Imagine Disney be so fckn bad a t writing stories that they ressurect the main good character of all star wars, as the bad guy, because it would look good on marketing ads. yikes. Pretty much sums up the whole star wars Disney experience. They basically recreated the OT, with a fancy new skin, people have been asking for bobs fett, now we have the mandalorian (even though its written quite good). They are just converting nostalgia into money, slowing killing the franchise

Not to mention it was made before the whole Chosen One part of the story was a thing, so bringing Palpatine back was a bit more forgivable when you consider destroying the Sith to bring Balance to the Force wasn't a part of the plot just yet. Plus, it's better written than many people, especially those who haven't actually read it, give it credit for.

I always loved how this series made sidous turn from a politician that could use the force into a full on Sauron style Dark Lord

We had something similar in canon, in battlefront 2 we had the satellites from operation cinder which had the ability to devastate planets. Also there’s the Sith eternal Star Destoyers which had these huge cannons that could destroy an entire planet.

Now they're bringing Sidious back for the Rise of Skywalker and I think I prefer Dark Empire over Rise of Skywalker interpretation of Sidious return

Nobblk Praetorian - doesn't matter, because it takes place in the new canon and is therefore not as interesting and hard to get into as part of a larger and uniteresting timeline Disneys mistake was trashing the timelime and.plageriizing it in a shitty way (due to not having any of their own stories ready). And they could have just added to the original canon (OT and EU), tsk tsk.

@@nobblkpraetorian5623 I always preferred Legends over Disney Canon cause at Least Luke made efforts and strived to correct the mistakes his father and the Jedi order from the clone wars made. He didn't give up on his nephew and go into hiding like he did in Last Jedi and in Legends continuity he also had a wife and son whose lineage along with his sister's and brother-in-law family continued into the legacy era. The Disney Canon just doesn't cut it

This story is so good. I freaking love how Luke wore Darth Vader's armor! Easily, my favorite look for him...

The problem with Palpatine is he was simply to powerful to sustain a body he should have done the same as Vitiate did, and have become a force entity. Can you imagine Palpatine as a force entity? I certainly do and it is scary.

vitor kennedy Sidious is already a God and survived the power of a hundred billion Jedi and is only enough to seal him into the netherworld of the Force as shown in the comic, whereas Valkorion's spirit got obliterated by four Force users. In fact, if those dead Jedi didn't appear in the first place, Sidious would have made the entire galaxy or universe a dark side nexus, in which turned him to a universal powerhouse and have become omnipresent, just like the Dark Jedi Jerec did to the Valley of the Jedi to gain omniscient, though he failed and got killed by Kyle Katarn.

Makes me think that the force unleashed 2 clones of starkiller were possibly tests for cloning Jedi bodies to perfect the process for palpatine. Perhaps even starkiller was a test of essence transfer. Would have liked to see this story special editioned and add Mara jade to the story, bring starkiller into the fold again and update the whole universe with more established star wars lore. Could even add Anakin's ghost into the story.

Palpatine was a smart m’fer of course he planned for the event of his death. (And better plans than spawning some hurricanes on Naboo)

He was confident that he is going to be killed, it wasnt a surpise to him that it will happen eventually and it did. Because to him, he wont die for real, he has back up. The plan to lure the rebelion to death star 2 was brilliant that it almost worked if it wasnt for the plot armor.

This is the version of Sidious, that I point to, when i have to convince people, that Valkorion/vitiate for as OP as he was, only ever can be called the second strongest Dark Force User of all time. It comes down to the forcestorm. This is starwars version of omega hax mode! Fleet and planet leveling power and Sidious can use it with a snap of his fingers!!! OP AS FUCK

Somerandom Guy Valkorion is damm powerful, but in the end, his spirit was killable. He became near immortal, but death won in the end. Sidious spirit was never killed, and to hold him in the afterlife, ALLÉ PAST JEDI SOULS was needed! Val only beats him in mind control powers, and that does not work on forces ultra masters like Yoda, Luke or Sidious.

"from within" never works. Just watch any Mafia/Cop movie.

In Revenge Of the Sith, Palpatine foreshadowed the events of Dark Empire! In the opera room with Anakin, he states how his master Plagueis became mad with power and how through only his teachings can he cheat death. He is perfectly foreshadowing himself in the events of Dark Empire!!

They could've used the Essence Transfer as a justification for Palpatine's return in Rise of Skywalker, but we got nothing. No explanation.

It was implied in the film given he wanted to possess Rey, but yeah they should've explained it more clearly. Otherwise, it just screamed "buy more stuff to get more answers!"

The last time I was this early I pre-ordered the deluxe edition Battlefront Two.

Thank so much, it’s really interesting to learn about,

I had those dark horse comics, it did bring new stuffs in the expanded universe (legend now, sorry), like the e-wing, the byss facilities, the world devastators, the eclipse super star destroyer, the MC-90 vessels. and even if the come back of Palpatine was not always appreciated, the idea that the Darth Sidious guy used a Force power to transfer is mind in clones was well done.

After the first issue of Dark Empire I remember the interminably long wait to find out what happens next....such a wait didn't get better as the series continued. It was the beginning of the Golden Age for Star Wars Comics.

I've expressed a direct interest in the Dark Empire plot arc because it was explored in Star Wars Rogue Squadron in a hidden level. You played as Wedge Antilles and had to save Mon Kala from destruction via world devastator.

Alright, as soon as I finish The Last Command, I'm going to read Dark Empire

Quite a read the story was, the Eclipse SSD is one reason for its popularity. The Galaxy Gun is also not bad if the sabotage rounds were working.

I would enjoy more videos in this style. I feel so lost in the Legends EU and you explain so well.

1991-2015 J.J. Abrams reads this comic 2016-2018 He rips off the plot of the comic which had resurrected Palpatine 2019 The highest grossing film of 2019 The Rise of Skywalker comes out and he gives no credit to the author and his team.

It fits with Sideous's ego but the imperial commanders are the ones that need to carry it out. It makes no sense for a bunch of generals and admirals to destroy all of the weapons and resources that give them power.

Honestly, the way the story ends is a pretty grimdark note. The planet Byss is destroyed along with all its inhabitants, many worlds are ravaged, the characters all have serious mental scars, and Palpatine’s spirit is STILL intact which implies he has the potential to return at some point later in the timeline, despite the dialogue being said. Way better than the Rise of Skywalker.

Of course this video gets recommended after Episode 9 trailer is released

I have a set of original print Dark Empire comics. I found them at a small used book store, didn't pay much for them either.

anyone else wish they made an outright straight up adaptation of dark empire from the beginning instead of pussyfooting around it for 2 movies before finally making the plunge in TROS. Hell, you could Mix Dark Empire with the thrawn trilogy(Joruus is a very weak villian) and you have palpatine, thrawn and palleon WITH BEN SOLO and maybe even admiral daala...that is a great villian lineup

For your next video you should do which faction had the best heavy blaster. It could include the DLT-19, Z-6, And a few others.

I've played both sides of Operation Shadow Hand in Thrawns Revenge. Sadly when I took on the Emperor at Byss he was on the ground so I couldn't take on his Eclipse. Although his force corrupt effect decimated my army.

I still find it hilarious that the Disney Sequel Trilogy's story ultimately ended up being a crappier version of this story, which was never that well regarded within the old Star Wars EU anyways. I do have a soft spot for Dark Empire myself, though part of it is just me laughing at how Dark Empire did a lot of the same contentious plot beats, only better. Probably because it was actually planned.

Could you do a video on Carnor Jax and the Crimson Empire. He and the Imperial Interim Ruling Council(The Council of Blood) were the ones who bribed the Emperor's physician to poison his clones directly leading to Palpatines death.
