I have been on the paleo diet since January and have lost 20 pounds so far. I see a major difference in my health. Not only trying out this new diet, but also going to the gym and ONLY drinking water. I do agree that most of these foods are expensive, considering that I am in college and don't have money for grass fed foods. However, I would strongly encourage for people who are over weight to try this diet out for at least 2 months. You will see the difference! I put my own twist on the paleo diet, and STILL lost 20 pounds. Not every diet is for everyone, that's why it's fine to make it your own to see what's best for your body. The paleo diet is totally WORTH IT.

Very bad things. I'm talking fast food literally everyday, at least once a day. Eating bread like 5 times a day (sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Anything fried, I DEVOURED. Brownies, cakes, sweets for dessert everyday. No veggies in my diet other than lettuce in a burrito, broccoli occasionally (I always loved broccoli, though), and celery only when I had 10 wings from Buffalo Wild Wings. The only fruit I LOVED were bananas, apples, and grapes, but even then I only ate them once in a blue moon. Listing this all out all these in front of me now makes me so happy that I'm no longer stuffing my face with a whole bag of family sized Doritos in front of the TV while I watched America's Next Top Model wishing I was so thin. My confidence is radiating and the feeling of waking up in the morning and seeing a lesser number on the scale makes me smile at night. Sorry for the long speech to your simple question, I am just so passionate about this diet.

Chyanne I need to find a good healthy eating pattern, I have already found swimming as a sport which I fcking love. So I am getting my movement, but I also want to eat healthier (I have these eating episodes in which I eat something salty and then I want something sweet and something salty again) and then I have stuffed myself full with garbage and I feel bad about it. Paleo seems pretty reasonable and it looks like I could really sustain such a diet

The paleo diet has been the best thing that's ever happened to me. I'm always full and never feel sluggish! If you are stuck without energy and want to get rid of the last bit of water weight and fat SWITCH! Im never bloated from heavy carbs like grains and lactose from dairy! And despite what this video says it's not as expensive as you would think if your smart with your shopping. In fact I spend less on food cause I rarely eat out and only shop on the outskirts of the grocery store👌🏻 if your a person that needs huge portion sizes to stay full I highly recommend this diet!

Counting calories was not important in paleolithic times. Before agriculture, eating a single meal required a full day of walking, running, lifting, hauling, gathering, and fucking. You ate as much as you could as often as you could (a habit that persists into our modern times, unfortunately the constant physical exercise didn't).

I have tried the paleo diet and Yes it Works. It is expensive at the beginning, to the point where you think it won't be feasible. You tend to eat more in the first month because that's what you're used to doing and because you like to feel full to the point of 'bursting'. Once you get used to to it you eat less. Somehow the control switch in your brain says stop. And mostly you save money because you don't buy junk food anymore. I didn't believe it until I tried it! I like how it was put by someone in the comments, she didn't just lose weight but she also stopped being lazy. I can relate.

As someone who follows the paleo diet, I appreciate this video and would like to give you my input! I currently feel healthier than I ever have. On your first negative, yes eating grass feed beef and wild salmon is expensive! However to me, eating as close as I can to a paleo diet at times is ideal. So if I can't afford grass feed at times, no worries. Any effort to eat more paleolithic is the goal! #2 Counting calories is not a problem for me, as someone who used to over eat ALL the time, after making the switch to paleo, the need to over eat has dropped tremendously. Lastly, #3 I know it may seem unpractical, but how unpractical is it really? You made it sound as if the entire culture must change to paleo, going paleo within many cultures is easy! Its just a matter of cutting out those culture specific cultural foods you mentioned. Also Homo Sapiens (humans) were not here 2.5 million years ago, homo sapiens came to be anywhere from 150,000 years ago to 400,000 years ago from our ancestor, homo erectus. It wasn't until 10,000 years ago humans began to transition from hunter gatherer societies to agricultural based societies. Going back to a diet that we humans were meant to eat isn't all that bad of an idea. Personally I think you and everyone else who looks down on the paleo diet should give it another chance. Note that many paleo blogs and websites really don't know what the fuck they are talking about, so be weary of that. Simply put, moving towards a paleo based diet is one of the best decisions I've ever made and I strongly suggest any of you reading this give it a try.

Hi Eva! No, Dairy is not a part of the diet, humans did not drink cow milk until agriculture. Hence why so many people are lactose introlerent. Good luck! Also, I'm not sure what your goals are, but maybe look into Keto, I've heard they allow some dairy :)

I do Paleo most of my food is organic but not all of it. I keep it practical and very realistic, I can't afford grass feed meats so I just buy regular meats... the reality is that if you educate yourself and learn about macro nutrients you can carry on a healthy Keto-Paleo diet where you lose fat, improve your health without breaking the bank. Yes you can survive without gluten, dairy & soy.

Hi! Did lose 33 lbs with the Paleo diet, but with a couple of changes. Restricted calorie intake to create a deficit and didn't exclude pulse/legumes ( I'm an Indian.. dal curry is a staple), it adds to your protein intake.

  • @IzzySycamore
    @IzzySycamore8 жыл бұрын

For me all 3 arguments against are invalid. First, you don't have to live of grass fed steak and wild salmon. The most valued protein and fat sources in paleo are actually bone marrow, liver, brains, hearts, and generally fatty cuts since they deliver protein with the right amount of fat already included. Also idk if you noticed that but on this diet you eat significantly less and you don't spend few bucks here and there for snacks/lunches, etc. I actually calculated that some weeks I spend way less money on food that I used to just because I don't get my morning Starbucks with muffin/donut and I don't order in like I used to almost every weekend. Second, the whole point of eating that way is to let your organism learn when it's full and eat food only when you need it. By cutting almost all processed food, starches, legumes and sugar you will naturally know when you're done since you don't have insulin pumping through your veins. And the last thing, that it's not practical, is not an argument at all. How can you dismiss diet based on your own dietary habits/traditions even when you admit yourself paleo option looks way healthier.

  • @evilevan9687

    @evilevan9687

I think steak and salmon where meant as representative examples instead of bombarding us with lists of foods. The organ meat you mentioned is also supposed to be grass/natural fed. His point is that the meat you eat should be from an animal that ate it's natural diet, not the usual corn or soy feed, which are not natural diets for any livestock. I've done paleo on and off for years. Personally, I find it is quit expensive when done properly. And I'm never sure if it's actually the ideal diet for health or not. Too many conflicting arguments from experts.

I agree Izabela, the diet is not that hard and the cost is the same as eating out everyday. I make large batches of many different dishes to break up eating the same things. Don't eat grains and refined sugars. If you research the Paleo diet you are allowed up to 3 cheat meals a week to help curb the cravings for your favorite dishes like pasta and pizza. Keep track of your weight daily, and notice the change in your weight when you do have a "cheat" meal. Almost always the scale goes up, that simple fact alone will tell you what is good for your body and what isn't.

I went on the paleo diet for a short time just to see how it would effect me. My plan was to only go on it for 3 months to get the full effect. That was about 8 months ago. I noticed two big improvements after just a few weeks. First, I didnt get cramps while working out. I have ALWAYS gotten cramps during or after workouts. But the biggest improvement was that I never felt "hangry". My blood sugar became very stable. I stopped getting the occasional shakes with that empty feeling in my stomach. My blood sugar had been like that for as long as I remembered, and all of the sudden it changed. I started to feel so good, that I decided to never go back to grains or dairy. Keep in mind, that I didnt do a "conventional" paleo diet, but the AIP or auto-immune protocol diet, which is like the paleo except you omit seeds, nuts, and nightshades. You do this to avoid phytase and other compounds that can damage the gut lining. BTW, price and convenience shouldn't be a factor for those who desire to eat healthy and feel great.

I switched to a paleo diet after years of suffering from heartburn and then about 18 months ago I developed adult acne and was on some pretty strong antibiotics for 6 months, I has tried various other diets to try and solve the issues but didnt work so I tried paleo and within 2.5 to 3 my heartburn had gone and at around 6 weeks my skin had started to clear up on my back then my face. It just shows you that the stuff we put in our bodies, all that processed rubbish really doesnt do us any favours and causes some major health issues. I knew diet was important but I never realised how unhealthy my original way of eating was damaging me, I always considered myself to be a reasonably healthy eater. Anyone looking to switch to paleo definitely should give it a try. I've been less than two weeks and I can say that at the very least I almost quit farting altogether, still go to the toilet very regularly and all my depositions are well shaped, no diarrheic burst of any kind, which happened earlier sometimes. I'm not even strict yet, I have been eating minor amounts of whole rye bread and haven't cut on dairies at all (not psychologically ready for that).

There's no such thing as "paleovegan", if it lacks meat/fish/seafood is not paleo, not even close. You will eventually find that you get problems with any vegan or even ovo-lacto-vegetarian diet because you lack vitamin D (unless you have an extremely outdoors lifestyle). This issue of vitamin D is particularly crucial for children, don't raise vegan children, it's absolutely bad for them because they need that vitamin D for their brains, bones, kidneys, etc. You can do pisci-vegan and call it "paleo" but without fish or seafood your diet is just wrong.

Ive been Paleo ish for about 3 years. I had very bad flare ups from fibromyalgia. Going paleo all but cured my symptoms. My inflammation basically disappeared. I went from being in excruciating pain to become a lifter, spending sometimes 2 hrs in the gym daily. I lost about 60 lbs the first year, weight hat I put on after having 4 babies pretty much back to back. I say paleo “ish” because I don’t but grass feed meat unless it is on sale. Staying clear of dairy and grains has only been beneficial for me. After about 4 months every single craving went away. I can be at a party with lots of food I “can’t” eat. But guess what? I don’t want it! It’s like furniture to me. I have no desire to eat it. My favorite food were pizza, Italian sandwiches, and potatoes. There are a lot of paleo options! I love to cook and be creative with it, so that helps, but mostly I enjoy eating simply. I also noticed that my taste buds sort of came alive. I taste my food and it is delicious. I think sugar and all the chemicals in processed food had sometime to do with dulling my senses.

This means these foods are not digested. They can also cause inflammation, bloating, indigestion, and gas." "Lectins are carb-binding proteins that are relatively “sticky.” They’re difficult for our bodies to break down and therefore cause indigestion. Their desire to bind also leads them to bind with your intestinal lining. Lectins can also cause leaky gut syndrome, which is when the intestinal lining is broken down, allowing toxins and anti-nutrients to leak into the bloodstream." ultimatepaleoguide.com/what-are-legumes-paleo/

My weight hasn't fluctuated more than 4 lbs since the first three month period when I lost 20 lbs. Mental health was also a reason why I heard about paleo, where low carb diets have been proven to be similar to drug therapy. This video did justice for the diet, except one thing. Resources have time and time again given this 80:20 rule. 80% of the time I eat completely on the diet and 20% is whatever. This helps me keep an open mindset to eating healthy and refrain from being neurotic about eating.

Did you eat enough fat? I noticed many people eat lean meats instead of the more fatty meats. The majority of calories should come from fats. There are studies that are beginning to find a link that fats help with mood and hormone balance.

Very interesting perspective, thank you. Honestly as someone who is just researching for now, it's nice to see someone trying to provide both what might appeal to and what might not appeal to someone who wants to try it. Honestly I don't think over eating would typically be a problem just because it is quite difficult to overeat nutrient dense foods (i.e. Ever heard of anyone over eating broccoli? 😳 I haven't. I imagine it's not easy). I'm sure it will require quite a bit of adjustment to the budget and at times will require some flexibility (as in you may have to just get as close as you can) but it still seems pretty cool. I guess what I was looking for any nutritional draw backs to it. Are there any?

I did it for a year and lost a bunch of weight while always stuffing myself. lots of paleo cookbooks out there to make the food delicious. Also you can make paleo bread with almond flour if you really miss it. After the weightloss stopped I switched to keto and kept losing weight. The only major difference was that now I could eat cheese, but no more fruit. I recommend either one if you have a sugar problem. 1-2 months of that and even if you go back to carbs you wont have crazy cravings like before. Almost like a reset.

I started the paleo diet in 2008 when I noticed my weight was stable with exercising at least five times a week and my diet was sort of calorie restricted. Today I continue with the paleo diet but fall off on an occasion. I lost over 55 lbs and have kept it off. I do watch the calories and continue with exercise. My joints feel good, I sleep better and I have a lot more energy. It works for me and my needs and I will continue with what I have from now on. Good luck with your diet and exercise plans but always stick with the exercise, it does wonders.

I've been full paleo for 4 months now, worked up to it for 3 months cutting a few things out at a time. I think its perfectly practical. The only thing I truly miss is corn tortillas for tacos. True, I basically can't eat out anymore and so have to cook every meal but that has been a plus and also helps offset the cost of all of my high quality foods. I can truly say I will not be going back to the standard american diet (SAD) I just feel too good. I do however allow raw and fermented dairy such as cheese, yogurt and kefir as well as butter and ghee so long as it is grass fed. Many paleo plans allow for this.

I have achieved amazing results with paleo, losing about 15 kg in six weeks and continuing until I reach my optimal weight. You are right it can be a bit pricey, but if you eat two or three eggs for breakfast with apples or another fruit, and a cheaper sort of protein such as a frozen fish filet or liver for dinner, and just juice or fruit for lunch - and no refined sugar! you can easily slim down. Then you can afford a nice bit of steak or pork chops one or twice a week. I also walk an hour or more each day with occasional days off to recuperate. I have found the high protein-high fiber combo you mentioned make me less hungry. It seems foolish to me now to have eaten massive sandwiches of bread, cheese and processed meat (or pizza) thinking I would not be hungry again for hours. If you eat right, your body is satisfied, and it's plenty enough to have two main meals about 12 hours apart and a very light lunch just to keep the brain going, and the blood sugar up. If you are committed to paleo, and don't mind the monotony of plain foods like fish and celery and carrots, you an afford to indulge occasionally in an evening out with friends and just have pizza and beer and not come off as all high and mighty and pure like some sort of self-righteous, fascistic vegan. And if you are committed to paleo dieting habits, you can confidentially expect to live a long, healthy and active life. I am in later middle age now, but every day I say fat young people, either 13 or 30, overweight moping about, panting with the least exertion and complaining about how they're hungry AGAIN. Ridiculous!

I've been a week or two on "lacto-paleo", my personal choice for the time being. I (mostly) quit eating bread (only exception has been some wholemeal rye bread), haven't had any pasta, beans nor pizza, nor cake (except for one that is like 90% dairy), replaced the "backup" of bread with potatoes (or just nothing), very little sugar (in reality honey is a very common treat, but a treat not staple, among most hunter-gatherers), etc. Works fine and I don't feel it anymore expensive but I live in Europe and I have some good shops nearby. I find difficult to "overeat" with this diet, really, although it's probably good advise if you are overweight to make relatively long periods of no food whatsoever (because that's when you actually burn fat). I don't think it's true that the diet is based on carbs, it does give wide room for fruits, veggies, roots and such but your main caloric intake is probably proteins anyhow, else you're not doing "true paleo" but some sort of hybrid, and by "true paleo" I don't mean something out from a manual but from what true hunter-gatherers tend to eat (and nope: the Maasai or the Papuans are not that and haven't been for many thousands of years, you have to look at the Bushmen, Pygmies, Negritos, Australian Aboriginals, Inuit, Ainu, Orang Asli, Hadza, etc.) My personal take would be: 1. Meat, fish, seafood or even insects if you can swallow that. Oven, barbacue or pan, not boiled, not microwaved but can be raw in some cases (there are other health risks to raw meat, I do not recommend it but some huntergatherers do eat liver and other parts of the carcass raw). This can be easily 50% of the intake and up to almost 100% in some extreme environments like the Arctic. Fish/seafood is important because of vitamin D, which is the most important vitamin ever judging on our pigmentation evolution (a lot of people died under strong selective pressures for not having enough vitamin D, especially since Neolithic). 2. Other animal-ish products like eggs (very convenient) and mushrooms. 3. Fruits and veggies: this is almost free design, roots like potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes (yams), onions, etc. seem to have been common among huntergatherers and provide a decent amount of "good" carbs in many cases. Fruits and berries also made a good part of the diet but seasonally so. I'd say that leave veggies, while not fully absent wouldn't be a big part of the diet: you can eat them but not critical. 4. For some reason nuts make a different category: they were in the original paleo-diet and they might include legumes sometimes but not grains. I'd think of them as a complement. You can put virgin extra olive oil here I guess because it's as paleo as it gets for oils (pressed olives, which are an oily fruit and not seeds). 5. Others: salt is not really needed for paleo because meat does not really need it. However salt is not that bad and is not at all unnatural, herbivores and frugivores crave it a lot and make expeditions in search of it, so use moderately if you really feel it needed in your dishes (veggies particularly). True hunter-gatherers will gather honey when possible, they just love it, so it's incorrect to say that the occasional sugary treat is not paleo, however the ideal one is occasional honey (true honey of the kind that is yellow and crystalizes) and should be considered a treat not diet. 6. Dairies: definitely not paleo. However many populations are perfectly able to digest lactose, notably in Western and Northern Europe, while others have developed fermented milks such as yogurth, laben or even cheese (hard cheese is mostly OK for lactose intolerant people). The bad aspects are high sugars (lactose) and lots of fat (which typically comes homogeneized). I've not gotten myself yet to avoid dairies so can't say much but IMO the occasional dairy is no sacrilege either (it is in keto though). 7. Grains (cereals): this is the black beast, at the very least they cause cavities and with all likelihood inflamation (low levels of celiac and diabetes like problems), however this does not only applies to cereals, one of the worst cases of tooth decay epidemics was a Mesolithic population of Morocco who had turned to eat mostly acorns (acorn bread?) so it may apply to all kinds of nuts and seeds (group 4). However it's clear that bakery, pasta, rice... is way too present in our diets, unnaturally so, since Neolithic. So at the very least reduce it heavily, try to eat other stuff instead.

Forget the grass fed portion of the guide and just consume lean meat, add beans because beans are probably the only food group a person can survive on if they didn't have anything else...for life. Basically cut out the carbs like bread pasta and rice and all the processed crap. No need for daily for adults if you think about it but you can add some yoghurt and goats cheese. And don't have limitless amounts just make sure you burn off in accordance to what you consume. It's a good diet. Doesn't have to be set in stone

  • @fatsamcastle

Paleo sounds good. The practicality isn't a con, as it's easy to simply not eat food. For example, Paleo says to eat more nuts, and you can buy nuts separate from bread, the practicality will only be a problem if you could only buy nuts when it comes in bread and you have to then throw away food (money) and have to get all the nuts out of the bread (wasting time). The cost though, the cost is the answer to cutting calories. I think it's far to say that, western society as a whole, tend to over consume. So well done you paleos. You're single handedly taking humanity backwards as the rest of us evolve to get the best from the food we consume. For example, lactose tolerance only happened because we evolved to drink milk.

I've been largely paleo-inspired for a number of months, and also previously, and both then and now I feel great. I eat eggs, good meat, mixed nuts, etc. I wouldn't be 100% paleo, as I still eat cornflakes (grain), yet I slice banana on top and garnish with mixed nuts. It's simply delicious. So far, I've exercised a lot, and gotten a lot leaner and stronger. I eat a lot of tinned fish in sunflower oil, post-exercise, so likely not 100% paleo. Yet as a lover of bread and cheese, ive stopped eating both, and no longer feel the craving for it. I also virtually never eat junk food, which a paleo mindset makes possible. (I'll have a few squares of dark chocolate every few days, to fuel exercise and as a reward. That way, too, it's my treat.) I also never take refined sugar. There's a lot of sense in the paleo diet, so if we take it as a general template, much of it is pretty useful. In my view, the benefit is less about what you DO eat (fresh vs tinned fish) as opposed to what you DON'T.

Point 2. The number of calories has nothing to do with the diet itself i.e the composition of foods consumed. So I am not sure what point you are trying to make here. It is possible to over or under consume calories on any diet. Point 3. While it is true that these food groups now form a integral part of many cultures around the world this does not mean that they are healthy or should be consumed in the quantities that they currently are. I think it is clear that the change in our diet over the past 50 years is of concern and clearly the low fat approach is not working. We are seeing higher levels of infant, childhood and adult obesity, much higher rates of metabolic syndromes including diabetes not to mention heart disease.

Rasziel I think the video is pointing out that a good diet should have some sort of range of calories. Because the general point in a diet to loss weight is to lower the amount of calories intake in comparison with the calories you are burning. You have to understand that the food from now is totally different from the foods from Paleo period. Carrots, brocoli and other food allow in a paleo diet looks and taste totally different now because of selective breeding. I think a good diet is a balance diet of carb/protein/fats with high amounts of fiber, minerals and vitamins.

As a person with a gluten intolerance the Paleo diet is great for me though, of course, not for everyone. This video is fair despite my bias : ) I don't worry about grass fed/wild caught and I do occasionally have rice and cheese when I am full bored paleo. You can't stick with it constantly but I change it up based upon my work out habbits. Gluten free and mostly paleo for a little over a year now and down 50 lbs while gaining significant muscle growth through crossfit work outs and weight lifting. Know your diet and know your lifestyle. Diets and Exercises can either hurt or compliment each other. Consider you macros, avoid sugar unless from a fruit source, stop drinking soda, limit your carbs, and JERF: JUST EAT REAL FOOD! Oh, and don't eat gluten free food unless your doctor says you have a gluten issue... It's silly otherwise. Peace!

I agree, I wish I could eat breads, dairy products, beans, and nuts BUT for over a year my body made it clear to me that I can't. So I'm left with a Paleo diet that I started and I need to commit to it. I WILL miss cheese, pastries, and yes I did love vegan soy products like tempeh and tofu because of its ethical alternative to protein. However, my body can't handle vegan alternative. It just amazes me that I don't want to eat animal protein but my body gives me no other choice but to follow a paleo diet. The irony.

I tried it for 1 month because of crossfit. After month a switched to primal. I found out that is not good choice for athletes, because of too low kcal from carbs. I think that grains are important for sport. I started to eat real food without sugar, wheat and those with chemical thinks and i feel great.

I did the paleo diet for one month and I lost 10 lbs! It's not an easy diet, you have to be prepared and plan out your meals but it IS POSSIBLE to do!

I am on it as of right now and have been for 6 months. It is cheap for one for two if you follow an eating plane and a true paleo diet. You will not feel as hungry. Therefore, you wont eat as much.

Cody Heuer 5 pounds is pretty good. It takes a long to to burn fat as its there so if your starving you don't die.
