Incidentally, there are many more Engineering colleges equally famous and they have also produced very famous alumni. NITs (NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY) also take their student from the same IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) there are 23 IITs and 31 NITs in India. Satya Nadela CEO of Microsoft & Shantanu Narain CEO of Adobe is not from IIT. And you are right in a way, there are a huge absolutely huge number of Engineers in India because from childhood there is a focus on Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry & Biology and competition is the fiercest in the world!

Politicians are missing from the list 1.Ajit singh -famous Jat leader was from IIT Kharagpur. He was minister for industry and civil aviation. 2. Manohar Parrikar - former defence minister of India from IIT Bombay He is considered to be the Person who introduced Tejas into IAF 3. Jairam Ramesh -from IIT Bombay. He was MP and minister for rural development 4. Alok aggarwal from IIT Kanpur He started Narmada bachao aandolan and is national spokesperson of Aam Aadmi party 5.Jayant Sinha from IIT delhi was minister of civil aviation 6. Arvind Kejriwal - from IIT Kharagpur Chief minister of Delhi and founder of Aam aadmi party There are many more like Nandan Nilekani , Sudheendra kulkarni, krishan Kant and Ved Prakash goel

IIT are very trees that our 1st PM Nehru started, now its getting international recognition because of social media....its Big Deal in India 3 best schools of India 1.IIT( Indian Institute of Technologies made of 23 campuses in India) for BTECH, BSC,PHD,MTECH, BARCH 2. IIM( Indian Institute of Management) made up of 20 campuses in India for MBA and PGD(Post graduate Diploma) and PGP the best Management schools in India 3 NITs ( National Institute of Technology) 31 campuses in India

In India 5 Million engineers are working in IT sector alone. If any company wants half million engineers it has to look at India, nowhere else !

In India apart from IIT'S, there are many engineering colleges of International standards. You can easily conclude that presently India produces around 4to 4,5 lakh engineering and medical, graduates every year.

I would recommend you to watch Kota factory webseries (available in youtube) of Jitendra Kumar. This is based on iit

The IIT entrance tests of 70s,80s, and 90s could beat the hell out of students and that's why the students excelled. This list is not even exhaustive. It must have included the IIT paasouts who are contributing in science. In fact its sad that the list is of those who are entrepreneurs/actors and not of the ones who are contributing in science.

Many of Indian politicians also graduated from IITs

Missed lot many alumni of IITs. Founder of email, former defence minister of India, current CM of Delhi and many more.

Every year 10 lakh Engineers pass out only 1% are IITian... I am too...

Now engineering colleges have entrepreneurship as an elective, which I am sure teaches you how to scale up a business and because of the logical thinking in Engineers is very good they are successful in entrepreneurial ventures.

There is a saying in Bengaluru Karnataka that " If you throw Stones in Bangalore either it will hit a dog or a software engineer"

I think this list has atleast answered to the Pakistani brothers and sisters who thinks that iit means IT no man you can do anything you have many courses and fields so you have diverse options . And one more things this list has only 10 many are left

We have long list of IITians. My 2 younger brothers are from IIT. One is from iit kanpur and other is from iit varanasi. One is doing Phd and other is in Germany.

The craze for engineering has decreased in India in last few years. According to AICTE(All India Council for Technical Education) total engineering seats available in India in 2021 was 23.6 lakhs. But not all engineering colleges are AICTE approved. Some deemed Universities also offer engineering courses and they comes under UGC(University Grant Commission). So you can say roughly total available engineering seats in india is around 30 lakhs i.e near every year india produces around 25 lakh engineers(considering drop outs and vacant seats of some colleges). In 2012-13 total available seats in AICTE approved engineering colleges were approx. 27 lakhs, So in last 8-9 years, the seats has decreased instead of increasing, and many engineering colleges which were not able of survive the competition were closed and government have also taken steps to improve the quality of engineering education. So you can say quantity has decreased but quality has improved in these years.
