As a beginner I tried to paint on a little canvas my daughter got me with watercolors. Like Thomas Edison, learned something that didn't work. ;) I always like your demos.I learn something new each time.
Wonderful video! Thank you so much for uploading. I haven't seen many other videos of artists using watercolour canvas. But it's a relief to see someone else painting; and see very similar things happen with the paint!
Thank you I've always wanted to know how a canvas would react to watercolor paint. 😊 Thanks for the video.

And not just any canvas reacts this way. It needs to be treated with a watercolor absorbent ground.

@Korbin Zavier Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Thanks so much, Steve. I just loved learning about the Masters Touch canvas. Yup, it's a must try in the new year. Speaking of which, to you and yours [and that includes your assistant, Reese] here's wishing you a loving, healthy, peaceful and creative New Year.
This was the best watercolor on canvas that I have seen! Thank you!
Did I ever comment on this video? This is by far my favourite out of all your tutorials...What you've made here is magnificent. Cant get enough of it. I just bought some Arches HP and couldnt really get to grips with the surface, but I think I'll try this tutorial on it, might just achieve a breakthrough!
Awesome! With me, it's all happy (or sad) accidents. I like how you seem to have a basic plan and then use how the paint settles to create a beautiful composition. A friend just gave me a watercolour canvas for my BDay and I didn't know what painting on it would be like and what I needed to know. This video was extremely informative. Thank you so much :)
Great video as always! I didn't know about these canvases & look forward to trying one. You have taught me so much and I really appreciate your generosity.
I love your style of teaching. The painting is very detailed which surprises me! I learned something new today and look forward to learning much more! TFS
Beautiful piece you have such an incredible style. Love it!! Thank you for sharing!♥️
Absolutely brilliant thank you. Just the advice I was looking for and love your composition 😊
Thank you so much for this! Two weeks ago I tried the Fredrix canvas for the first time and it took forever to finish. I had to basically dry brush subsequent layers because even tho the canvas was dry, the paint would lift right up from the layer beneath. I was just going to give up the effort but will now have to experiment again and will definitely paint looser.
This looks like a floating forest! Amazing
Thanks for this video. I was on my way to Hobby Lobby today anyway and the watercolor canvas you showed was 50% off ($2.50). Can't wait to try this!
Excellent demonstration of how watercolours behave on canvas. I believe I prefer it to paper. Thank you very much!
Watching this again and wishing you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Keep the videos coming. I'm really enjoying your tips.
I'm so excited to have found this channel. I've been watching for the past couple of days and have learned so much! You're an amazing teacher. Happy holidays!

I love everything you do! Just beautiful. Love learning new surfaces to paint on. Looks like fun. Hope you have a beautiful Merry Christmas. Blessings. Xm
Thank you! I went into Hobby Lobby today and found no watercolor paper due to shortages. I saw this and went back to grab the watercolor canvases.
Love the Painting & tips for canvas. I really like to do watercolor on canvas.
I had an art showcase and wanted to exhibit some work that had more of a gallery look to it so I picked up a few of these very same canvas' from Hobby and gave them a try. I found some of the same issues with dripping and lesser absorbency but was very pleased all in all. It was really great to see that you were reviewing this specific canvas. Thank you!

Thank you for such an informative video. Love the painting!
Wow .... awesome .... excellent painting!!
Really cool, I will have to see if I can find one of those canvases. Thanks, really enjoying your videos.
Thank you, I have been curious to see how the canvas performed. I can see the advantage of the lifting qualities in some kinds of work. I aspire to get better at detail at the moment but will buy a board to practice on for a break some day. Excellent topic and presentation.
So enjoyed watching you paint this Beautiful thank you
Amazing! Love this one.
Thank you for sharing! I really enjoy your videos.
Great video!! I just tried the watercolor canvas at a Plein Air outing and wasn't sure if I liked it or not. I plan on trying it again after watching this !
love your painting and the runny bottom! wonder what a lavender field would look like painted that way!
really loved this demo. love watching you do detail stuff! I've learned so much from you since you started your channel and always look forward to your vids! thank you! great painting. will have to try this canvas. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It is as if a forest spang from 2 vases. I love it.
Thank you so much for your time. I am always interested on how watercolor will "Lift" once it is dry. Seems like that may be harder to do on canvas
Looking forward to a yupo video! I have a hard time doing anything pleasing with it, it really is cool though
Just love following you Steve, I'm learning so much. Happy new year to you and yours. Joanne - England
Wonderful work really enjoyed watching this video
Another beautiful piece. Thanks for this informative review ... another item to add to my list for Santa! Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thanks so much for your tutorials this year. They have been an inspiration to me.

Absolutely gorgeous. I love the colours and shapes- I'm particularly inspired by the loose edges and drips. I feel very motivated to do some watercolour now! It's not my strongest medium... Which just means I need to practise more ;) Thank you for uploading!

Thank you for making this video. I just purchased a watercolor canvas online. I am still waiting for it to come in the mail. I am going to see how I like it.
I absolutely love the Master’s Touch canvas panels! Thanks for this video. I really can’t imagine going back to paper. I could never keep paper from buckling. I used the good stuff, but still couldn’t make it work. Again, thanks!

After your finished painting, do you seal it with uv resist acrylic coating? To protect from spills and such? And do you know if it's archival?
@dfalco2138
4 ай бұрын
@@paulgray387 I didn’t seal it. Maybe should. The one painting has held up well. It’s been 4 years. I’ve no idea about whether it’s actually archival.
Beautiful!
Very helpful and informative thank you for sharing this 🙏
Omg what a delightful channel 💗
you are amazing!!!!! thank you for sharing
Beautiful painting! I was also curious about WC canvases, but I'm so sold on the grainy cold-press texture that I haven't tried yet. I like how this is a classic mind of watercolor, you literally let the paint do what it wants. Definitely something I'll need to work on (: - Liron
At the 16:30 mark center left side where you laid down some grass, I pictured a subdued elk's head, with antlers and nose, emerging from the bushes.
Thankyou sooooo much I needed to know, and you did it in this video.
I love your paintings.
Thanks mind that looks great'ate..
Very good demo. it was vrry interesting to watch. Dana
Awesome video! I have used Daniel smith as well as golden watercolor ground and I never really enjoyed it. It's just not the same as good ol arches watercolor paper!
That's awesome!
I've had house paint in a can for like 5 years, I just mixed it extra long and it worked fine lol
Solid review. Appreciated - your opinion is respected.
Inspiring! Beautiful! I like working with Aquaboard, but I didn't know about watercolor canvas. I am anxious to try it. Merry Christmas.

Acts almost exactly the same in terms of washes and absorbency. Merry Christmas!
I have often wondered looking this Watercolor Canvas in Hobby Lobby, how it compared to using WC paper, now i know I believe I would like to try it, since watching your video. As always your videos are wonderful!

Try Daniel Smith watercolor ground. There are several variations available. I've been using it for years and never had a problem like that with it.
An absolutely gorgeous painting. I love your style and teaching videos. Sadly, I cannot afford to support you on Patrion but appreciate you still offer free lessons here. Thank you.

I have Daniel Smith water color ground in white and black that has been open for a year or more and it is still good. So try the Daniel Smith brand water color ground.
Thanks so much for this review, I had taken advantage of the sale, bought the same canvas only a larger size. I've still not used it so now I am more prepared with knowledge to try it. Your work always turns out to be beautiful. Also I love the choice of words you use, to me they relate to the time we grew up in, although I might be older, lol. I am speaking of the " all the live long day" you said..it was in a song we sang ... anyway.. THANKS

Merry Christmas!
I took 18x24 watercolor paper and soaked it for a minute, then wrapped around a flat sided old picture frame. While the paper was still damp, I glued the side edges and mitered the corners. Then glued the wrapped paper around to the back of the frame. Since I have lots of picture frames with broken glass, this is how I use them up. After I was all done, I sealed the front of the painting with cold wax medium. I let it dry and buffed till it glowed slightly.

It dried very taunt!
This is lovely work. Thanks for posting this vid. What do you mean by core watercolour is it unmixed paint straight from pan?
Merry Christmas! Wondered what these were about now I know.
Never worked watercolour on canvas. So this was interesting for me.
I love your video's ❤
Do you need to spray varnish it to protect it?
You can get the same "jump" from any paints by adding a few drops of "flow enhanced" (as used in Acrylic painting) to the wash on the palette then apply it to clean water on the paper and it'll leap about in the same way. Oxgall can also be used but you need more of it - the Schminke blocks of oxgall in half pans are best for that, economical and smell amazing!

The Mind of Watercolor I'm not sure if it is that alone or if it is the synthetic wetting agent they add to the paints that makes them explode. I have them on my list to try - may buy them in the January sales!

What kind of medium do you mean exactly? ☺️
i love this!
I am starting WC on canvas and this was really helpful. I like doing contemporary W.C. How'd do you seal this as I do a lot of pastel which needs sealing.
I'm thinking of painting a series of 8 X 10 canvases or panels that be arranged in various configurations on a wall and without frames, which I do with some of my oil paintings. Can watercolors be varnished or protected so they can be hung without frames and glass?
very Interesting Steve! I've asked Santa to help me out so I can be a patron so I can help you in hope you and your family have a beautiful Christmas and a creative new year! Heather
Another great video Steve, but I must agree with your assessment of the results on the left bushes. Regardless, of the odd composition I think you did achieve a very wishy washy piece as you said.
I like golden absorbent ground…. They must have improved product in 5 years!
MERRY CHRISTMAS THANK YOU SO much

Great video Steve! 😆
Great video. What did you use to draw your composition? Charcoal pencil?
I might want to switch to watercolor canvas! I love to scrub in my highlights and sometimes i get too carried away. I ruin my painting.
Although these are up to $5.99 now, 5 years later, every other week they’re half price, so this week just $2.99 each! I’m running to what me and my daughter call, “the Lobby of Hobbies”! 😎
This is my favorite painting of yours! I love the colors. Could you tell me what colors you used? My biggest problem is choosing the correct combinations.

Honestly I don't really know. This was recorded a while ago and I failed to make note of the colors which I try to do now. Sorry!
Artist Loft Canvas can be painted on with Watercolor.I tried it and it works.
Try this again with less of an angle. I’ve painted on canvas on the flat or a slight tilt. It does take a bit longer to dry. But I’ve have done a couple of times.
Great advice
It amazes me that you can just dab at the canvas and predict how the paint will react and flow down.
Well you know; you got another sub great videos!!
Thank you for this. I bought a jar of ground to make water-colour canvass, so I appreciate your tip on using it sooner rather than later. I didn't realize it would react differently than watercolour paper. All good to know and as usual, your work turned out beautiful. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.

Death star t-shirt. LOL Love the vids, btw. :)
dang, mine doesn’t do that. i’ve tried wet on wet and wet on dry and nothing seems to work. it’s like the paint just sticks to the top
I did know there was such a thing! I'm thinking these may make a good plien air option, as most pochade boxes are set up for canvas anyway. Saving for the Alla Prima now! Merry Christmas!!

Yeah thats true they might. Different animal though. Canvas doesn't act just like paper.
Nice work Steve, I tried the watercolour canvas a few months back out of curiosity and didn't like the feel or look at all 😖 I won't use it again. I love watercolour paper too much😊 I'm sure some will love the canvas and do amazing artworks on it.
