Painting a Victorian Wall Mural *because why not*
Ойын-сауық
Hiiii! So something I've been in love with ever since I was little is the idea of transforming a space by painting, sortof like a theater set? SO. After seeing some inspiration online, I decided to FINALLY just do it. I took some leftover wall paint, chose a wall in my bedroom to attempt a Victorian-esque mural so I can feel like I'm... sleeping in the forest? Also answered some questions... I dunno.
ENJOY!

Pro Tip from a Lowe's Paint department employee: Ask for a paint sample instead of buying a quart. They only come in satin, but they cost four dollars each and are only about a half pint of paint. If you need more, bring in the container you got it in and they should be able to read the formula off the label and make you more.

I might not have a “red room,” but I do have about 50 Shades of Grey sample pots in my basement. Now go forth and paint all the walls, because this one looks fantastic!
I'm only 3:08 mins in but I wanted to say how smart it is to use left over paint, it'll tie this room into the color scheme of each room♥️ c o h e s i v e♥️
Tip for anyone using water-based wall paint: pre-moisten your brushes, rollers, and sponges. You want them to be moist so they don't absorb a ton of paint and get super goopy and gross.

Love the plants placed over the mural-they fit so well.
It's really cool how much bigger the room suddenly looks

Oh my god, the end result to me looks EXACTLY like the forest where Sam and Frodo see the Elves walking through in the extended version of The Fellowship of The Ring. And if that’s not Rachel’s aesthetic, then I don’t know what the heckity it is. 100/10.
Rachel: Do you ever look at something, and it just immediately hits you right in the aesthetic? Me: It's happening right now, with that butterfly poster.
They do make smaller sizes than that, they're sold as paint samples for around $1 and they're around half a pint of paint. That's what we did when we painted the clouds on the ceiling.

My grandmother gave me those same “you crafty bitch” socks for Christmas last year lol
i watched this during my online class, not kidding, this was way better than my class. your room is amazing!!!!
I don’t know what it is about your videos but I love rewatching them. This is the third time I’ve watched this one and I’ll probably be back again soon :) ❤️❤️❤️
when I was a kid, my mom painted a mural in the hallway of this field surrounded by woods, and I think there was a cottage there too? and then painted a white lattice criss cross fence over top of it so it looked like you were looking through the fence into the distance, and I was so engrossed with it that I used to spend hours just sitting in the hallway and staring up at it, pretending I was playing in that field, or talking to the owner of the cottage, or sometimes pretending it was my cottage. I can't recall the details of it very well anymore, because we moved out of that house when I was 11 and so far my mom hasn't been able to find a picture of it, but god I miss it. she also made these borders around the living room with hand painted ivy leaves and did a light sponge painting with some forest green around the walls. it was so beautiful. anyway, this video not only let me live vicariously through you (I'm renting and paint is expensive and I'm no artist), but it also made me hella nostalgic in the best way!! so thank you for showing us your beautiful mural, and for being a nice cozy place to reminisce and get back in touch with that dreamy part of my psyche that I missed.

What a lovely memory, you have of childhood. I love to do laundry because my Mom used to sing while she did it and it relaxed me so much I would just sit with my back to the dryer and listen.

When I was a kid, my brother painted a mural on the bedroom wall. He was an amazing artist. Never found out what the Department of Housing thought about it when we moved, though.
I get so unnecessarily happy hearing that very Massachusetts-specific pronunciation of "roum" in "bedroom", etc. It adds a whole new layer of soothing quality to the video!
the best/worst thing about rachel is that she makes me want things i didn't even know i wanted LIKE AN ENTIRE MURAL ON MY WALL

I pondered this slowly for the last 2 months. Rachel you are responsible for 'we'll put a new coat of paint up before the baby gets here' becoming 'full-scale woodland baby wonderland'. I have no money now, only badger watercolours and baskets with foxes painted on them.

Rachel: makes stew, bakes bread, films video, draws mural and plans to wait until the next day to paint it. My ADHD brain: rushes stew, burns bread, forgets to film, draws only half of mural, gets too excited and goes in with the paint anyway, gives up, has half painted wall for the next 2 years.

Do you have any tips on places to go or things to see in Australia? My family are thinking of taking a trip. when covid is over.. it would be cool to not just see the top popular stuff. Like historical places etc, I'm doing studies to learn more about aboriginal people so we will definitely be going to uluru and the northern territory.
What a beautiful transformation, @Rachel! Like being in nature without the cold and wet.🌧⛈⛈❄🌨🌨
Love love love. Super inspiring! Great job on perspective; it makes your room look so much bigger.
Why yes, I am one of those “watch all the way to the end” viewers. Without the outtakes I wouldn’t feel like it was a complete video. P.S. I love how this turned out!

Finding Rachel Maksy, Bernadette Banner, Karolina Zebrowska, Abby Cox, Anna Isabel, Jill Bearup, Thea Ulrich, et al… 👉🕳 🐇 👈 Me I may have a thing for strong independent women with creative sides. T’would explain why I married a lawyer who does needlepoint, reads comics, draws fashion dresses, occasionally plays D&D, writes books, and is currently relearning her high school French and practicing calligraphy among other things… 😍
The BOLDNESS of painting without taping off or covering the floors. 😂 lovely and inspiring.
Stunning end result. The ease with which it's done is so amazing. Fantastic transformation; the room decor goes well especially the hanging plant on the corner of the room like it's part of the painting.
Your point about style is so relatable. Sometimes I look like my grandmother just trying to be comfy other days I wanna feel like Indiana Jones while I walk around costco, or I wanna look like Galadriel as I walk through the forest, a hobbit? A schoolteacher? A librarian? Sounds good to me! As of now my favorite style is what I call Vagabond made up of thick long skirts, cloaks, satchels, boots, Indiana Jones hat, a lantern with a candle inside.
