Maybe use some strong magnets to lock the drones onto the landing pad - and electromagnets to release it for takeoff. IR diodes can be used to improve landing precision. Place the landing/charge pad on rails, so the drone can be rolled into some form of hangar.

@@holycrusader3119 while shooting someone for trespassing might be legal, I'm not sure putting an actual gun on a drone is. More importantly, it's a massive risk for themselves. Imagine someone goes back to the office late at night to get something they forgot and they don't (or can't) deactivate the armed drones. Or a kid kicked their ball into your grounds and they are coming to pick it up. Or something else goes wrong with the program and you shoot someone innocent. Also, personally, I would much rather have the thieves arrested than kill them.

@@RMDragon3 It would be one for the courts and a case of lethal use by drones/robots will undoubtedly find its way to SCOTUS at some time within a few years.

That's one hell of a step into automated security drones. Lots of potential for scalability and escalation as well. Love it. But its also low-key kinda terrifying, when one stops to consider the potential ramifications of the development of such technologies.
