PacPro Remote Oil Filter Relocation Install

Jason will guide you through the install of a PacPro oil filtration relocation kit. It provides easy access and serviceability to the engine’s oil filter. An oil filter relocation kit is most beneficial for those who have a Ram 2013+ or twin turbos, as both deny simple access to the stock filter location.

I like how he states the torque specs as the other guy just uses wrenches and sockets. It’s just like parents telling their kids “Do as I say, not as I do”.

For certain. It's exactly when I go "crap, I don't have a crows nest wrench that fits this." Hummmmph. That should be tight enough. Many broken / stripped bolts before I got the art of this down.

They have to list torque spec for the novice that has no sense/experience of feel. If you think any hydraulic shop is using a torque wrench on hose ends then you're oblivious.

Parts appear to be of good quality, but I don't like the location. Small fender-bender could knock your filter off/cause a leak. Highway speed blowout could also slap that fender liner and cause oil loss too.

On the kit HP10363 for Ram 1500 Classic 2020, will the filter remain the same as OEM on the remote head ?

  • @flinch622

Personally, I would have put straight [JIC] fittings on the remote filter housings and have 90 degree connections on the hose.... but sometime space limitation can't go there as minimum bend radius creates a need for more headroom. Side by side 90's in a fixed housing can be awkward and sometimes impossible.

What's the pumping loss since there are 90 degree fittings and downsizing from 1 inch head to what looks to be half inch line? For the price, surely you have R&D performed on the function rather than just fitment.

The oil pump is a "positive displacement" type. The flow rate doesn't change regardless of downstream restrictions.

Is it critical to pre-fill the new filter with oil? any issue if you don't?

  • @zash008

If you dont prefill filter then the engine runs dry longer until the oil pump fills the oil filter and then top of the engine

No. I've been changing my own oil in two different Cummins equipped Ram trucks and I've never prefilled the oil filter.

@@zash008 I installed this and it took about 10 mins of running the engine before the oil even showed up on the dipstick. I was a little worried

@@TexasDraped your statement makes absalutely no sense since the dipstick reads level from the oil pan. You would fill it before even starting it. Letting it run for 10 mins and then suddenly showing on the stick is hogwash.

@@garyrichards6041I know it’s months later but I just installed this literally an hour ago and I added and extra 1/2 quart to make me feel good inside. I check the level initially and it was on the safe area on the dip stick but barely. So I can safely say 12.5 quarts will do it on the 6.7 Cummins. Cheers

It still a pain in the ass. You still have to deal with the fender well. It would be better to mount it on the frame.
