PACO DE LUCIA - Almoraima (Bulerias) (1976 Live UK TV Performance). The BBC incorrectly credited the title as ' Entre Dos Aguas' which is an entirely different track by Paco De Lucia.

But this is not what made him the best guitarist. It's all the hours of practice instead of school and homework. Musicians' night life is the reason for girls and drugs which probably cut his life shorter than if he took more care of himself.

@@ConcedoNulli it is what it is, it's a bulerias ...it's a genre in flamenco. Has its own swing just like jazz and a lot of the charm is about the rhythm and percussion and the fast tempo which is normal for this genre, there are other stuff of his more melodious if mad virtuosity is not your thing. Started hearing this type of music about 20 years ago and it made almost no sense to me cause of the "weird" rhythm, it's not 4/4 like regular music and it's not waltz either. Once your ear gets around this and you can see hear how it repeats, becomes much more enjoyable. If you listen other flamenco genres like tangos, or rumba or fandangos which have a more conventional rhythm I think you would find it more bearable. Not very surprising traditional music makes no sense if it's not your tradition the first time you hear it, but if you grow up hearing it it's different. I wonder how was for people to listen to blues for the first time, pretty sure it took a while to "get it"

what nonsense my man. Thats freaking BBC four, very few people cared about this back in 76 as well. Just as little as people care today about great flamenco guitarists. But its not that you never see virtuoso players on TV. You see them quite frequently for other instruments like piano or violin in big concert-evenings on TV, even on the main channels. There's better music out there than ever, just eat less of those memberberries and keep your eyes open for the good stuff.

Quite possibly one of the best ever recorded live guitar performances in any genre. I have watched this many times and every time totally blown away that it’s even possible to play like this. But beyond the technical virtuosity he is playing music with deep meaning, rich in culture and passion. We use the word virtuoso a lot nowadays but it really does need to be reserved for great artists like Paco who transcend the technicality of an instrument to produce great art. Just sublime on every level.

No practico ejercicios. Fernando Pessoa

He will live in our ears and hearts. Great in flamenco, classic, jazz. His re-lecture of Falla and Villalobos is legendary. His incursions in risky territory, with Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Larry Coryell, and of course John McLaughlin and Al di Meola are also the stuff of myths. And as Portuguese I cannot forget his Lusophone ancestry (from beautiful Castro Marim, in Algarve).
