Pacific Electric Ray Dazzles From a Distance | Nautilus Live
Ғылым және технология
Caution: it's electric! Drifting over the seafloor at night, the Pacific electric ray (Tetronarce californica) can produce an electric current to stun unsuspecting fishes--or deliver a discouraging jolt to a hungry predator. This ray was spotted at 70m while exploring the Southern California Borderland searching for ancient sea caves.

I love the female scientist who we hear in these videos she so dispels the myth that scientists only speak in ways too complex for the layperson to understand with statements like "She looks like a giant floating pancake" and "she looks kind" lol.

Well she's not a real scientist if she speaks like that :) real scientists take care of their words to be as accurate as possible, and yes, there are female scientists that are careful of their speech
It must have been trying to sleep because it kept going motionless and drifting right into the rocks and being startled by the collision. I'm just guessing though. Do rays sleep?
@franzfanz

Basically everything sleeps. I believe even single celled organisms have a dormant period where they're less active.

Fish sleep too, but since most fish don't have eyelids it looks like they're awake, because their eyes are open during sleep as well.

why don't they have tail whips or tapered tails like typical rays do?
Pacific is winning.
