PA State Police Hunting a Killer: The 1919 Double Murder in Cly, York County PA.

Ойын-сауық

In 1919, a gruesome double murder was discovered in the railroad town of Cly, York County Pennsylvania (Newberry Township). The resulting investigation would lead to a manhunt through Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky, a Postal Clerk to commit suicide and the death of a Pennsylvania State Trooper. A State Police Investigator would end up under attack by mountain men in Kentucky.
***Corrections:
- The York and Cumberland Railroad was completed in 1851, not 1830 like I mentioned.
- As of October 2023, I cannot locate any information confirming the burial grounds under the Riverside Village or the house allegedly burning 3 times, other than the mention of this on the Northern York County History and Preservation page linked below. I did reach out to that site owner requesting further information.

This was FANTASTIC! Kept my interest peaked the whole time. Riveting storytelling. Love the side note at the end. That whole 1990’s town is stuck in a poltergeist situation 😮😳

What a great video! Lot's of relevant, cool imagery. Several local-to-me places of interest: Declining Cly, that Old York Jail . . Excellent research on this one! What a dreary delight!

Another great video. Dont mess with them mountain folks. I ran into very strange people in western North Carolina back in early 1978. Very uncomfortable. Left quietly and quickly. They just stared, it was creepy.

Very interesting. Have read this before on a local history blog. However, I live in Riverside Development and have since 1998, and there has been no house that burned down 3 times. When I moved here, there were only 4 houses, and none burned the whole time I have been here.

Interesting. I got that information from the Northern York County preservation page. There is a link to it in the description of this video. I will have to look into that a little deeper. Thanks for the info.

@runningintohistory The only other thing I csn think of would be if it would have happened before the Riverside Development was built . But I was under the impression that this was a field before that. Or it happened in the development next to Riverside

I will definitely look into it to see what I can find. So far I don't see anything about it in old newspaper archives.

Yes Ney chip is where I read it. But I have been in Riverside since there were only 4 houses here. There hasn't been a house in the Riverside Development that has burned up. There was a fire at a house in Susquehanna village next to Riverside that burned right before we moved here. To my knowledge the house only burned once.

What are the odds of a house burning down 3 times? It had to have been arson.
